a few years back i was given an Earl Biss painting as payment/collateral for a vehicle that i sold for approximately $3000.00.
Now i'd like to sell it.
I was told that it was worth more then $3000.00 by the person whom i got it but somehow i doubt that. I do however, think it is worth a few thousand but I do not know how to be sure. How do i know what to look for to get an accurate estimate/idea? It is 30x22 and hand signed. There is other markings, pics related..

What OP means is that spending less than six hour of art leaves you with enough free time to supplement your art income with a regular job

Which is good perspective, because I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that very few people here are Sakimichan and could use a few extra bucks ehre and there

What style is Glen Keane?

why do beginners always try to give names to styles and compartmentalize them??? just call them by the person who draws them like "that style reminds me of glen keane" jfc baka

According to the interview on "The Animation Podcast", he studied off Burne Hogarth's books that his dad bought for him in fourth grade.

naming is a mechanism for power. If you know name something you have power over it. People, especially those emotionally dependent on what others think, say or do, will either seek out those in the know or attempt themselves to be in the know. One key trait in being in the know is knowing the name of things that others don't know.

Bic pens are actually the best for sketching

>Bic "Bigass Ink Clots all over your paper" Pens
>>
>>2808207

not really, quite the opposite actually
the fine ballroll tip allows a steady constant ink to slow through, so fine that you don't get clot like a fountain or dip pen

you can also apply different value depending on how hard you press it onto paper, like a pencil

and lastly, ink trains you to get shit right in the first place

Bic pens are great pencil that have 'pencil like' qualities, and they are great for sketching

A lot of people in the art section I noticed arn't really late bloomers with exceptional skill, they seem to be more like artists whose art just happens to fit within the time period's ideal art style. So many of them are very abstract.
I still think the idea of a Late Bloomer is important to keep in mind but that wiki article just isn't good.
While he isn't a visual artist, I think a better example is Danny Elfman
>Never played music until he was 20
>psuedo attended CalArts
>Became a famous composer for anything Tim Burton made as well as half the most famous movies
>Lead Singer of Oingo Boingo
>singing voice of Jack Skelington

>they aren't really late bloomers with exceptional skill, they seem to be more like artists whose art just happens to fit within the time period's ideal art style
This reminds me of a long-running discussion I've had with my mentor. Pertaining mostly to editorial art and illustration and especially cartoons and manga, artists are heavily inspired by art from the generation they grew up in, but don't come into executive positions or solid careers until they are in their 30s. You get this generational flip flop where everyone is pulling from what was cool 2 generations ago because that is who they are and who they are selling to. There's also a certain disdain for what's popular during your 'git gud' period, not that you don't like it but that you don't want to do what everyone else is doing and be derivative.

It's my guess that getting a late start, or just not being on the trendy side of things, bypasses a lot of developmental psychological bullshit and puts you in a position where you aren't held to juvenile musings and limitations in and about what you like and what you're doing and how to go about it. If you've always actively cultivated an interest in art, you probably have more robust and varied tastes and a more refined aesthetic than most young artists who don't seem to know more than 3 names. You're in a position to stand out from your peers and make the next trend.

Now that I understood how to pick colors depending on the values, how do I know which colors to choose to have a natural look and keeping some colors variations without having that shiny-sick skin color ?

paint from life and identify the color relationships rather than the colors themselves

be aware that the object and the background are interdependant.
>>
>>2813504
Knowing color theory (light a hits skintone b = color c), anatomy (lots of arteries = red, lots of veins = green/grey), and painting from life

Increase saturation rather than lowering value for details, wrinkles

Skin is pretty luminescent so you better study that too.. you don't want to be doing skincolored sculptures. Light will often penetrate thin bits like eyelids, ears (sub surface scattering), but all surface layers have this characteristic

If i owned an art museum even a low tier one i'd be more interested in asking for a piece of bubblegum.

The art looks like tattoo/street artist tier, and not the creative kind.

small work is not impressive, small pen and ink doodles especially so
>>
>>2810460
Small work is not impressive? There are some intricate works done with surgical precision. Just 'cause a piece is a mural doesn't make it good.

Answer me, anon. How do you draw your smiles?

D (tilt 90° clockwise)

>>2811436
I find ways to express the form of the face around the mouth, then I draw in the corners of the mouth.

Usually doing the corners and the plane below the bottom lip is enough to get a smile across. Too much detail and a smile looks garish.

with a tablet

So I'm starting to become a bit popular with lewd/mango art (I'm not Ulrik obviously), and although the cash coming in feels nice... the popularity is completely overwhelming.

I could spend an entire day doing nothing but replying to notes/comments/pm's across several sites and emails. A ton of people want to have endless conversations and I don't want to just turn them all down or be rude.

Also whenever I open my patreon in order to make a post or share work I get horrible anxiety. I can't explain it, so far my supporters have been very chill and surprisingly loyal...

Anyone have any experience with this? What's the right way to progress once one reaches this level? I don't want to become one of those 'snob' artists that get hate for being douchy...

Stay true to yourself but understand that fans, customers and supporters are part of your business persona. If you don't have a business persona, get one. Work on your confidence, don't let people dictate how you behave or feel.

I'm glad you're making it, bro. Focus on the good emotions and take the bad ones as you take critcism, improve yourself and move forward.

gr8 b8 op

I Cancelled my schoolism membership, sold my tablet, and threw away all of my sketchbooks.

Such a waste of time. And for what? It's completely unnecessary and serves no purpose.
Art is not needed, especially in today's society where the intellect, personality, and face reigns supreme.

To be honest, the "artistic lifestyle" seems almost like a childish endeavour at this point, and I don't mean any disrespect, but it seems like the most serious artists (asides from guys who are legit conceptartists/illustrators/porn artists but they represent a very low % of dedicated lifters) are also the people with nothing else going on in their lives.
I know this was true with me, I was biggest and most serious about drawing when I was still in uni, working only 15 hours a week, and pretty much just plucking around all the time, going out, with no real life.
To all you kids out there who are getting sucked into the comerical art , try to stop yourself.
So long as you have and maintain decent facial aesthetics, you'll be fine.
Art just not worth it.

cheers
