Recently bought an x230. It's kind of slow using google chrome on windows 7. Would upgrading to windows 10 help? Would using a different browser like firefox help?

Install more ram or pick a broswer that uses less ram like firefox

>>56152590
Probably a little, 10's performance is a bit better, but I wouldn't do it because 10 is dogshit.

>>56153155
is right, Chrome is a fucking memory hog. Put more in, or use Firefox.

What are your specs, OP? I have an x220t and everything runs quite lovely!

So is fx8350 8 core, 4 core 8 thread, or 4 cores?

Can we finally settle this stupid debate?

Also while I'm here.
Fx 6300 + board for 160 aud, or i3 6100 + board for 250 aud? Which is better performance for the price. Willing to oc the fx, not too fussed about power consumption since I won't be using it much.

Unless your computer is to be used for playing the newest video games or develop for Windows, you would be able to do everything you normally do.

If you're a developer, Linux is the go-to platform.

Let's say that another person has access to the computer that I use at work and I didn't log out of my gmail account in it and I also have the google drive client on desktop. And let's say that I have some sensitive material (lets say dank pasta screencaps) in my drive folder that I wouldn't want anyone else too see. I have some questions:

1. What happens to the local files stored in the gdrive folder on the pc when I delete them from my gdrive account online?

2. If the other person logs in with his own gmail account, can he still see the files in the gdrive local folder?

3. Is there a way to confirm if I have the desktop client installed on another pc in case I don't remember?

Thanks.

A /g/enie appears:

You are given three tech related wishes:

you can hack any government/corporation/person on earth

You can wish for any existing/theoretical technology/hardware

etc., just keep your wishes tech related. Like my first wish. have everyone on earth install gentoo.

There are no good jobs. The economy sucks, richfucks have controlled the job market to only allow people they deem worthy enter it, and your only choice is minimum wage slave labor, which you're supposed to be thankful to get for some fucking reason.

Alright, /g/, time for a very open ended discussion.

I've been using Linux for a few years now, but I wouldn't say I know a whole lot about what goes on under the hood. I'm very comfortable at the command line and using it for day-to-day tasks, but by no means an expert on operating systems.

I've really only ever used Ubuntu, and just switched from Unity to GNOME in January. I will say, I'm liking GNOME a lot, but I'm open to alternatives. I don't mind extra resource use if it makes things look pretty sexy. I've been tempted to try KDE.

Some other distros that have caught my eye are Debian, Solus, and Korora.

So, my question for you, is what Linux distro do you recommend? And within them, what window manager and desktop environment?
