Fx 6300 + board for 160 aud, or i3 6100 + board for 250 aud? Which is better performance for the price. Willing to oc the fx, not too fussed about power consumption since I won't be using it much.

As a guy who's owned both an i3 and an FX-6300, go for the 6300. It's a lot better bang for your buck. You'll get much more out of it.

There is no debate, only shitposting.
The Module design consists of two X86 cores with a shared FPU. An FPU is not an intrinsic part of a core, its an supplemental coprocessor.
They're small integer CMT cores, but they're still cores.
The FX 8350 has 8 cores and 8 threads.

This is the big plus for the FX. I don't know about the 6300 but the 8350s overclock to 5+GHz depending on cooling.

They perform as well as recent i7s. Yea, the i7 is more efficient but it costs substantially more too.

an i3 would likely beat an FX-8350 even if the game is threaded for quad core CPUs.
If it's threaded for 6+ cores then the AMD would pull ahead, but the IPC advantage of intel is nothing to sneeze at.
