I'm watching a video on my laptop, and the picture doesn't look as good as my previous laptop.
Is this related to my screen or could this be an issue related to my drivers? My current screen has a higher resolution (1920x1080) and the other only goes up to 1280x720.
For reference, it looks a little blurrier. I took a screen shot and brought it up to my other laptop, and the picture looked better on the other computer.

Probably because the older screen was a smaller size, and the panel type.

I found these old gateway2000 speakers digging through some old stuff the other day, I plugged them in just to fuck around with and they wouldn't turn on.
So I opened it up to see if there's a visible source to the problem, but I barely know what I'm looking at.

can you reasonably explain why a key generator that doesn't modify any system files (or any files for that matter) would set off an antivirus?

why would an AV software deliberately check against a database of good, valid cracks with no malware, and deceive their user into thinking that a file is infected? are AV devs they that far in bed with other software developers to protect their IPs, even game developers? or is the real answer that a lot of these tools are not as harmless as everyone wants to believe?
>>
>>56155005
Two ways, manually defining known hack tools as malware. It will often literally show up as 'hack tool' or 'keygen' in the definition. Secondly, heuristics that scan for things like DLL injection, which is often but not always associated with malware.
>>
>>56155005
1. they dont have a database of valid cracks
2. there's something called 'hueristics'
3. they add them to their detection database

So, /g/, I need to replace my computer with a new build and was looking for OS thoughts. As it is I use blender for some work and digital sculpting with a haptic controller, as well as some work in solidworks. I do a bunch of programming with eclipse for C, C++, FORTRAN, COBOL. I'm currently using the Dialog software for APL, and Kiel uVision for ARM. I do have SOlidowrks, diptrace, spice software and some other stuff that gets used for other projects. Beyond that I do play some various games. I know some of my software-verilog, blender, eclipse has linux versions already.
I was planning on swapping to linux when I did the new build, the big question is-how many of these things are available in good linux options, or would I need to use wine for pretty much everything? I am not enjoying win 10 when my computer updated, it's just alright, I'm not a huge fan. I've ran through a few different VMs-Haiku, a couple BSDs, Gentoo, Suse, Netrunner, Fedora, Ubuntu, GoboLinux to test them out as options, and I've been working with linux on servers for a few years, so I'm not really new to it. I've just never migrated a computer for home/professional use. Is it worth going to linux and finding alternatives, running wine and keeping some that I am used to? As it is on windows a lot have odd bodges to get them working as they were ported from linux, but some of my other stuff relies on windows. Anyone here using linux for a workstation for design and programming?

Are there any audio players I can set up like mini radio stations?

I'd like to have several playlists ("stations") and I want to always go through the playlists in full before looping to to the start. Positions should be remembers.

For example. if I play "Disco" until track 10, then start up "Hip Hop" and play that until whatever. Then I shut down for the night. Then the next day, if I listen to "Disco" again, it should start at track 10.

The sound on my Windows 7 laptop went awful a few months ago. There is a constant hissing if this is audio and a high pitched squeal if there is no audio playing. I have confirmed that is not the OS's fault.

my PC broke down and i'm not sure what the problem is. only had it for coming on 2 years so everything should still be under warranty. I think it is likely the motherboard. would it be better to remove the processor / RAM, RMA it and get a replacement or just take the L?

A friend of mine wants to make a website (a public archive of local athletes), and I'm trying to educate myself on the process in order to help him not get fucked over, as he's planning to pay a company, whose service I'd equate to the Geek Squad's, to do it.

What would be a good starting point? I just watched a tutorial which recommended GoDaddy>Hostgator>WordPress as the solution. Also, all those Squarespace sponsorships on YouTube made me check it out and it looks like a really good solution to the point where it makes me skeptical. It also seems a lot cheaper and better than what the company I mentioned has been making. What would be the ups and downs of these solutions and what should I look into?
>>
>>56156345
>godaddy
fucking hell no

and it all depends on what he wants the site to be able to do, so we need a lot of more info, like really specific shit about how he wants navigation, layout, features like dropdowns, search filters, sorting, tooltips etc.
>>
>>56156345
Godaddy is trash
hostgator looks horribly overpriced
wordpress is whatever
>>
>>56156428
He's kind of a luddite so he himself wouldn't know what he wants, but I'm sure he needs nothing more than a barebones simple solution.

Imagine a Wikipedia list page with hyperlinked names of the athletes categorized by sport that lead to their specific profile which would be a picture and some text which he could update as needed for the Archive, an About section for himself, and probably a place where he could write articles. Fairly static, small, and self contained so I don't think he'd have any special layout or navigation needs, no dropdowns, only basic search and sorting and no tooltips.

I know I'm not really being specific enough as I'm kind of uneducated on the topic myself, but just assume everything needs to be simple as possible.

>>

>1. What effect does piece size have? Is there a recommended piece size, or does it depend?

As an uploader I try to usually size piece to be as close as 1% (i.e for a 200 mb file size I size each piece as 2 mb), its sort of a signature and I feel like the downloader is able to easily calculate how much of the file is done based on pieces that have downloaded. I personaly do that calculation while downloading

As a downloader I feel the bigger the piece size the easier for me it is to stream the audio/video file however it also depends on the seeder seeding the blocks in the piece. If the last block in the initial piece is being seeded by some faget seeder with 1 kb/s upload speed then I get screwed regardless of the size anyway

But generally it doesnt make much difference so you might as well just put it in auto and not worry about it

>2. Approximately many trackers should be added for optimal torrent speed and longevity?

The more the better imo, however some downloaders will be concerned if they see a tracker with weird name they havent seen before. They may think its a fake tracker used to disrupt file downloads by either Copyright owners or law enforcement agencies etc regardless of whether its true. So its better to put trackers that you have seen before and trust

even with the tn display desu?
>>
>>56160067
if there isnt a big price difference get the IPS, 4ms is about max i'd go for a gaming monitor. but i dont think you'd notice a color difference in games, but if you want to be sure, go to a store and compare yourself or google a review where they compare IPS to TN.

botnet is a meme people use to discourage others to use anything but their own distro/OS.

>does the bat also work when recovering from sleep etc
see pic. You will need to find a way to eject the drive before sleeping it to ensure that Windows doesn't randomly boot it up again because that happens.

I had my 5 for three years and the only reason I upgraded to a 6S was because my 5's battery went to shit after months of using a non-Apple charger

>>

You need to assign it a letter in diskpart
>>
>>56160425
"it"

You can assign letters to disk partitions, not to partitioned disks, so what good is assigning a letter to a partition if I must stop the entire disk?

Anyone else get constant BSOD on bootup when they try to update to windows 10 Anniversary? I literally can't update at all and have to revert back to previous build whenever I try to...Anyone got an ideas of how to fix this?
>>
>>56152148
Hey guys. I haven't upgraded my PC in a long time and I need some help figuring out what I should get.
[email protected]
8gb Ram
z77 extreme 4 mother board
gtx 660
60gb SSD and a 1.5tb harddrive
i don't know where to even start with a mother board. What differences are there in motherboards? other than having less or more usb's and other stuff.. sorry idk much about motherboards.
>>
>>56160955
Overclock the CPU to 4.2GHz, get a bigger SSD and a GPU if you play games.
You didn't specify what doesn't work anymore or what you are trying to do, so it doesn't seem like you need an upgrade.
>>
>>56160993
Idk how to overclock i'd have to look it up. only things that don't work well are some ports on the motherboard and usb's on the case and on the mother board.
I'm hoping to get a Vive in the future and don't know if i should get a 980ti or just get a 1070.
Get a bigger power source, 650 or 700 watts?
and i'd need a new case.
>>
>>56161129
I'm running a vive on a 3570k and a 980ti without problem.
You didn't post your current PSU.

Why did you get a k version CPU and a Z motherboard if you don't intend to overclock?
That's at least 50 euros wasted on something you don't need.
>>
>>56161144
I just bought the computer built already.
Can my motherboard support a 980ti and am i able to take out my processor and put in my new motherboard?
>>
>>56161160
Sure you can, but check your PSU before.
If it's a LGA1155 socket motherboard you can change it, though it seems unecessary changing from an old motherboard to a different old one.
>>
>>56161160
bc the motherboard's kinda old.
>>
>>56161194
and there are usb's on the motherboard that are completely dead. can those be replaced straight from the board i have now?
>>
My question is too important I can't let it die with this thread.
New thread when?
>>
>>56161263
what?
your motherboard has dead usb ports, and you want to replace it with your motherboards usb ports?????
>>
>>56161273

>>56161296
>>
>>56161276
No, my motherboard has dead usb ports. i either buy a new motherboard or order single usb ports and replace them on my motherboard sorry if i made that confusing
>>
>>56161327
just get a usb3 pcie card.

Will a portable console charger designated for european 240V work on 110V/60hz ?
>>
>>56161568
Maybe, maybe not. Take a look at the charger and read the text. If it says "100-240 V 50-60 Hz" or something similar, it'll work.
>>
>>56160604
If you assign a letter, smartctl spins down the disk assigned to that letter even if there are multiple partitions. Windows won't access multiple partitions until it's asked to, like when in diskmanager for example. but there's no way around it. You can't simply 'poweroff' a disk unless there was an option in the BIOS to do so.
>>
>>56161633

It doesnt. Just 230v, 50hz, 7W.

I know I could fry the device for 110V, if plugged to 230-240V, but what about the opposite? Not working at all or slower charge or anything?
>>
>>56161785
It really depends on the charger and how it's actually been built. The charger itself probably doesn't get fried but the output might be unstable.
>>
>>56162088

Unstable? You think that might damage the battery somehow?
>>
>>56162189
I don't really know the details about what's inside your charger so I can't say what exactly it'll output. It might be able to push enough voltage and current to actually work properly, or there might be voltage dips. I don't think it'll damage the battery though.
>>
>>56162471

Thanks, mate. When I tried searching for that, all I was getting was questions about plugging 110v devices to 230v sockets, not the opposite.

The charger is Nintendo 3ds european standard charger, but I dont think it will give you much info.
