I get this on boot up on repeat after trying to upgrade to the Anniversary update...luckily I can just revert to a previous build but I'm completely at a loss for how to get past it from not even booting and BSOD on startup on repeat

>Moore's law has held strong for processors, making our smartphones exponentially more powerful with every passing year. However, battery technologyhas proven to be a frustrating barricade. Although our phones are more intelligent about how they manage battery life, we've been using essentially the same kinds of batteries for twenty years with only incremental boosts to performance. That is, until now.

>Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are reporting that they've discovered a way to make lithium-ion batteries fully twice as powerful as previous designs. This design is in alignment with current manufacturing procedures, which means these double-charged batteries could be hitting the market as early as next year. Curious as to how it works?

>In traditional lithium-ion batteries, ions move from a negatively charged graphite cathode to a positively charged anode through an electrolyte solution. Graphite has proven to be an excellent cathode because it's stable and can hold a relatively high amount of ions.

>What would be better than graphite is a lithium-metal foil, which has a far greater capacity for ions. Researchers have known this for some time, but the problem is that lithium-metal has a tendency to react violently with electrolyte solutions, causing overheating and even catching fire.

>However, researchers with SolidEnergy Systems, a company with its roots in MIT, have developed a new form of electrolyte solution that doesn't overreact to lithium-metal. With this technology in place, batteries can be made half the size of modern batteries and still retain their full capacity. Alternatively, you can make batteries comparable in size to today's batteries, and they'll last you twice as long.

Pretty fekin sweet, ehh /g/? Now anything running on lithium can have twice the capacity, half the weight, or somewhere in between including tools and phones and cars!

So what gives with Windows 10 consistency across multiple devices:

I have three Windows 10 VMs created with Win7 ultimate and the DAZ launcher. Two of which show different options in some context menus than the other one. It's just sort of not the same, yet they all show the same
>Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build: 10586)

But that's nothing compared to my desktop computers (I just can't check my desktop at home right now for build number, because I'm at my parents place). Just one example is that the log-in screen, just sort of vanishes after key press to allow you to enter password, but here the screen is lifted to allow you to enter the password.

And yes I have deferred updates on all computers, but now they are all up to date and show the same version yet behave differently...

So are Windows 10 builds different, depending on your hardware? Even So that wouldn't explain the VMs, though with the only difference being random with dynamic memory and different amounts of assigned cores.

>pic related
>also I wish I had a screenshot from the DXdiag of my main computer since it shows the most different behavior, but I don't have WoL on it or something to check

just noticed that 2 of the 3 VMs also show a different bios than the other one. That would imply that there are differences in builds, according to minute differences in hardware though, wouldn't it?

The login screen only slides up the first time you boot. If you re-lock or put it to sleep, clicking makes it go away instantly.

Have you fallen for the [ubuntu/linux distro] "just works" meme? I sure have.

>install ubuntu
>mess with Xorg to calibrate color
>everything just breaks
>RIP Xorg
>try to delete all known config files, purge, reinstall packages etc
>nothing fucking works
>have to manually backup everything from another OS and reinstall

>install lubuntu
>fall for the tiling manager meme
>decide to try it out
>"sudo apt-get install i3"
>"wow that sure was easy"
>log in with i3
>it sucks sweaty balls
>log out
>lightDM is messed up
>reboot
>i3 somehow loads automatically, broken dependencies, system hangs

So I have to reinstall ubuntu for like the 10th fucking time this year. That's why I used to keep going back to Windows. It might peak at your files once in a while but it actualy does work as promised.

since becoming something of an adult the amount of username & secure password combinations I have to various services has exploded. can /g/ give me a way to write all these down in a secure an encrypted manner?

the decryption should be easy, capable of being done mentally, but not so easy to be obvious.

Why did Ahodeska's amazing filepicker stop updating? Why has no one bothered to continue it? It fixed one of the worst things about Linux, the awful file selector. I don't want to name my files and forget about them.

My employer lets me choose between 3 24" monitors or 2 27" monitors. What should I choose? I have a lot of software running.

Or should I suggest something else? I guess I have around $550 to spend.

Software I run all the time:

Desktop Manager (server manager)
Outlook
TS Session
Excel
Remote support software
Web browser

>>56147764

go with one 40" 4k screen and use the leftover 150 $ for poptarts

if not an option (and unless you have bad eyesight) go with three 24" monitors - arrange them like the inverted triforce for max comfort (primary work screen below and the other two on top)
>>
The three 24" are going to give you more total screen area so if you need versatility as you do I would definitely go with that option. You don't need a 27" screen unless you need it for specialist software so it's not worth considering.

Alright guys, here's my situation. I bought an old dell desktop off of a friend on the cheap, seemingly nothing wrong with it, but it has windows xp and I'm not very well versed at it

basically I set the pc up and connect it to my modem via an ethernet cable, but for some reason it doesn't show a connection. I've watched videos on making a connection and I'm just really stumped and wondering if there are any windows xp wizards here who can help

Check Device Manager to see if a) you have a network device and b) its drivers are installed

Is there any reason you want to stay with XP?

If not a more user friendly Linux distribution or maybe win 7 might be more your style. Especially if you do not have the tools to reinstall XP and the fact it has been abandoned in almost every way by now.
