Can someone help me understand the how an OS (especially mobile ones) is "ported" to a new device?

Bump. I want to know what's the device-specific firmware/drivers the manufacturer writes, and how it's "plugged" to the Android OS.
>>
>>56156013
If I'm not mistaken, you have to add built-in drivers for the new hardware and make sure that the OS can actually use the new hardware it is supposed to run on. You also have to use an appropriate compiler if you are porting to a new architecture.

Why haven't anyone made a Port Tycoon? I would love to handle containers and running a port

Who the fuck cares about BSD?
Just get Gentoo

I thought BSD users were too 1337 for graphical interfaces anyway.

That won't stop openbsd developers from maintaining their own fork.

So a few days back I bought an LG G4 through Sprint. It had an update available so I went ahead and applied said update. Problem is that it was ZVB and it installed antirollback so I can't downgrade. Only then did I realize that it's impossible to root Marshmallow ZVB on the piece of shit. Is there any way to make this thing fuck up so my warranty will cover it and they'll replace it with a non-updated phone? It would have to seem hardware related and like it wasn't my fault... I hate no being able to root my shit. I had a G4 on nTelos and it started screen tearing before... is there a way to prompt that behavior on this one or was that just an unlucky draw?

>>
>>56155952
Wait... Is it just the sprint version or does it also count for the international one?
>>
>>56155952
Sell it on Swappa for $200.
Buy one on Swappa for $160.
???
Profit.
>>
>>56156082
Pretty sure it's only the Sprint variant.

How viable would be a laptop as a home server?
- power efficient
- small
- in case the power goes out it has a battery
- has built in peripherals in case you need physical access
- has built in wifi so you can turn it into an access point with filtering and firewall rules
- you can take the optical drive out and put an additional HDD/SSD drive

>>56155827
It's not bad.

Why not an older cheap netbook if you're concerned about efficiency though?

I've got a d2500 micro atx board that I plan on setting up as a server.
>>
>>56155827
Depends on what you want to do. For a file server or maybe a lamp stack it should be alright.

For IO intense virtualization and such, likely not.
>>
Good for all of those reasons, but you're still limited to the laptop's horsepower. File sharing, torrent seeding, and SSH is perfect for a laptop server. RDP and video streaming, not so much.

THANK YOU BASED INTEL

Cantenna, how the fuck it works?

From what I've seen it is used only on the host end. But how can a two-directional communication be improved if only one side is sending directional waves?

There's a thread for stupid shit like this
>>
By making it directional ?

Think of light source.
With reflector, you can "aim" the light further.
Turn off the light, and scattered light will be "collected" by reflector at focus point.

I have a Sapphire R9 270X which is I thought faulty since there are a lot of crashes n shit when its under heavy load. Crashed several times while playing the division when it came out until i underclocked it to like 850-900 mhz.

Also have a 220W cpu on a board that support 125 only. But since the cpu is working fine and the clock speed are normal i thought its okay i just had to attach a few fans to cool the vrms.
Now a friend of mine suggested that im a fucking retard and my card is not faulty its just the pci-e rail not getting enough power to feed the card.

can this cause this problem or its actually faulty?

Your friend is correct. And don't be one of those aspies who only hear what they want to. That is what is causing it.

But out of curiosity what PSU is it?
