Hi /g/,

Does anyone know some software that can:

Play MKV through the web browser from a local source.
Sync the play across multiple clients (4 in this instance)
Allow 1 client (admin) to play / pause / etc. for all clients while not allowing the other clients to do this.

Preferably with a login, but it's not really needed. I've looked everywhere but I can't seem to find any working solution.

I guess you could use some remote desktop client. Get them all to connect to your computer, fullscreen the video, and deny them keyboard and mouse access. Or you could just share your screen on Skype while they all call you.

If they're in the room, just don't give them a keyboard.

I'm pretty sure Garry's Mod can do this too.

Find/make an online streaming service like twitch but less anti-fun.
Use OBS and/or other streaming software to capture screen or video player.
If you need remote control use remote desktop and/or ssh.

Guys help i fucked up.
So after months of downloading porn and torrents from sketchy sites my computer finally got fucked. I want to take it to best buy so the fagsquad can look at it but heres the thing. All my edgy and probably illegal porn and shit is in there. If i ask them to totally reset it can they do it without going through my files and seeing all my fucked up shit?

Is the Gear VR actually good? I wouldn't be gaming on it, obviously, but for video watching, is it good?

Anyone here own one? I would use my s7 if I were to buy one

Let's talk about ElementaryOS. I'll start.

Good

It's comfy as fuck. DE is great in regard of both visuals and usability. I grew to hate the flat look meme which is forced upon my throat by other DEs.

Some of the default apps are fine. Music player, mail client, calendar. For sure it has the best applauncher out there. I really like its terminal.

It's stable. It's based on Ubuntu LTS so it rarely does something weird.

Devs are responsive in regard of bugs. They are open to discussion for improvements as well.

Bad

Basically Ubuntu reskin. I'm sad that there are not that many technical projects. Even Solus with their package manager that does not handle libs clearance.. it's nice to see someone taking up the effort.

Epiphany browser as default? Disabling PPAs and general hostility toward third party app producers... devs make some weird choices.

Discuss anon.

>built a decent group of friends throughout highschool who were into games and we played vidya together

>lurk /g/
>find out there's a lot more to a computer than just navigating baby GUIs
>find out there are operating systems that are completely customisable to your own specific use case
>find out that the majority of software and even the actual operating systems that most people are using are collecting and selling your data
>really want to switch but can never bring myself to making the change

Did you guys sort of just install and play around?
Did you/do you have any programming experience?
What are the good things you've discovered being a GNU/Linux baby or making the switch yourself?

At the moment I just have a rMBP which I use for most of my simple shit, media consumption and all that. And whenever I want to play a game (which seems to be less and less these days) I just go onto my piece of shit Windows desktop and hope it runs okay on my GTX 650.

Computers are becoming less and less interesting to me and I think it's because of a lack of /installing gentoo/ in my life. Will this be the begin of a new found love of computing, possibly learning a programming language and actually enjoying myself, or will I just find out it's a different way to do the same boring thing and switch back/never come back?

thoughts? help?

1. You install Linux distro
2. Spend 5 years trying to polish a turd
3. Realize all operating systems are essentially the same
4. You go back to Windows and use it like a power user

>media consumption

Please don't use terms like "media consumption" or "productivity". They are idiotic buzzwords used by pretentious twats who think talking like this makes them sound smarter. What the fuck is "media consumption"? Say "watching movies". "Looking at pictures". Maybe just "media", dude. "Consumption" is such a dry fucking word. We're talking jacking off on the computer. Do you say "It is time to consume food" or "I'm gonna grab something to eat"?

Just because it's computer-related doesn't mean you have to speak like a machine. It's fucking childish, don't do it.

If they put the best supercomputer in the world to mine bitcoins all day, it would give them profit or debts with energy and stuff by the end of the day?
24 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>57834258
Probably debts, those supercomputers cost a lot of money in energy and refrigeration. You'd also have to take into account all the money they didn't earn while mining bitcoin since they could have rented the computer.
>>
>>57834258
You need an ASIC farm to actually make a profit off of mining btc.
>>
>>57834258
Depends on how efficiently written and compiled the miner's code is.

Why is there no linux installer that does the following?

-provide any of the decent upstream base systems (debian, arch, ubunutu, fedora, opensuse, whatever)

-lets you choose all of the important core system aspects (de, wm, themes, x or wayland, pulse or alsa, themes, etc etc)

-sets up your choices to just work and be properly configured toward each other (tray applets, theme, x/wayland, etc)

Why is every distro either a blank shell where you have to set everything up yourself and be lucky if it works, or a measly attempt at providing just one specific setup with no userbase and no certain future?
