Is it just a meme or is windows 10's built-in security shit actually good and combining it with mbam and ubo makes a separate AV unnecessary?
>>
>>57839194
No, it detects more false positive than actual viruses

Any free av such as Avast or AVG and such are far better, still not brilliant, but better.

I'm using ubuntu on an old laptop with a broken headphone input, so I've got a usb audio adapter for my headphones. Sound was working fine up until today and out of the blue, the volume is way too high with them on, and suddenly goes mute when lowered below about 50% volume (before there was noise on 10%, and it was about loud enough as it needed to get on 20%).

I tried this.

https://chrisjean.com/fix-for-usb-audio-is-too-loud-and-mutes-at-low-volume-in-ubuntu/

But it hasn't worked. How do I fix this?

This idiot should know that removing the ports is to avoid these faggots shitting up the apple community with work shit.

I think all ports should be removed, the internals should be EVEN OLDER and even less battery. that will solve these fucks badmouthing apple because they misuse it. This is a USER ERROR

Dear /g/,

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 and I want to install a Linux distro that works well with the 2 in 1 touch screen feature.

I'm a computer science student that mainly will be using it for school; I do c++/java/python development, dabble in IDA and reverse engineering as well as information security (nmap, nessus, metasploit, wireshark, etc.).

Can you recommend me a distro? I have experience with Ubuntu, Kali, and Arch. Pic unrelated.

Ubuntu gnome or Kali, depending on your level of paranoia and whether or not you want to show off your 1337 haxxor skills.
>>
>>57838928

Trisquel if you don't want the canonical bullshit.

Otherwise, Debian.
>>
>>57839096

I'm not paranoid at all, I'm not one of those muh privacy fags. I typically use Kali with UEFI flash boots, I don't really see it as a "everyday use" distro. Ubuntu is bloated af. I don't hate it, though, and a lot of the students in my netsec classes use it, so I'll give it a shot.

Should I upgrade to Skylake for cheap(I live by a Microcenter) or grab a used mobo from ebay?

Пpивeт, зaмopcкиe yблюдки.

I'm looking for an alternative to Skype, specifically video calls, and haven't quite found anything that works smooth enough yet. My requirements are:
- must be open-source
- preferably p2p
- supports Linux
- doesn't spy on my arse
- works more or less stable on over internet and not only within the same network

Does anyone has suggestions? I don't care if video quality is not perfect if it works.

I upgraded from an fx8320 and some shitty motherboard to a 6700k and a Z-170a motherboard

Now I'm getting lower fps, massive lag-spikes and game crashes.

I reinstalled all the drivers.

I think it might because I have hyperthreading enabled in the bios or because I never clean installed before i upgraded.
Anyone know what's wrong?

Anyone have experience with Asus's warranty or repair program. My laptop was fine and I come home to the load up screen filled with artifacts and every screen filled with green dots. I'm pretty sure my faggot family spilled something on it. Will the warrant cover it? I don't think it will be fixed without getting a new one but they said it needs to be sent in 4 times over the year before I can get a new one and to not worry they can fix it. If it's not covered paying will be cheaper than buying a new one.

I'm fucking pissed. I lost all my school work and if they don't fix it will need a new one by next semester, but I think I will go with MSI this time. Thing is I was planning on building a killer desktop that season and this is going to cut majorly into it if I do need to buy a new one.

I know muh gayman laptops but I'm very impressed with the mobile 1070 and 1080 and it's strong enough for good emulation, all the PC games I play and I play a lot of fightan games on the go and at events.

If your family spilled shit on it, probably they will not fix it for free. If you have people this retarded in home you should cover laptop or hide it somewhere
>>
>>57838721
What do you think it will cost to fix?
>>
>>57838763
If motherboard is fucked it will cost almost as much as new laptop. Make sure you know what the fuck happened to it. If it was covered in warranty you usually have to pay shipping it to them and they will pay the shipment to you.>>57838721

Is there any reason to use a GUI program when there is a CLI/TUI equivalent?
21 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>57838331
Not really. Some cases where the GUI is honestly better than CLI such as a web browser are the exception. There is yet to be a command line browser that is as good as a GUI browser.
>>
Graphical programs. Pretty self explanitory.

Image and video editors/viewers, file managers, web browsers, games. Occasionally a configuration tool if the parameters are easier to set visually. Otherwise, no.
