Greetings, /diy/.

I bought the aero grill on eBay,
and it came with one of its racks broken.

Any ideas on how to fix it ?

They just missed the weld, not really broken. Buy a collar with an id that matches the the od of that wire and shove each end into it. Make sure the collar isn't galvanized, I'd bet most are copper or brass anyway. If you have a welder just weld the ends together. You could solder but I'd worry about the solder liquifying in a grill environment.

get some copper wire, cut an arc and put on top of the broken point, then use another wire to wrap around the overlap area

I was de-rusting some metal in vinegar and it worked surprisingly well, but I don't have an exit plan.

I'm afraid if I take them out and dry them they will just rust as soon as they dry.

I'm planning to paint them so what do? Pain um wet?

>>
>>1085592
Yes, be careful. It will rust in a matter of seconds right before your eyes if you dry them off.
>>
you need to transfer the entire apparatus to a vacuum chamber to prevent oxygen from coming into contact with the bare metal.
>>
Take it out
Wash off with soap and water
Towel dry
Blow dry
Primer immediately

It'll be fine I've done this before. If you're really worried you can wire brush it after blow drying, then hit it with some sandpaper. You're over thinking it

I have a need for air. Both volume and pressure in a car. My alternator is brand new 100 amp. But i plan on making it glow like the sun so i either need another alternator or a mechanical air compressor.

Wat do?

I have an ac shit harbor frieght compressor. I could mount it in the truck and run a bigass inverter. But if my math is correct i need like 128 amps? Fucking really? Not to mention its loud as fuck.

If i go mechanical what kind of volume and pressure can i expect? I'd like a steady or near steady 100-110psi.

Hey DIY, /an/imal here, I'm trying to find a cheap way to laminate a picture to use as a background for my mudskipper aquarium. I'd like to make a custom background, but most paper can easily get damaged being wet(obvious, but I need to explain because of habit being with a bunch of retards). So I'd like to laminate a picture/colored paper that suits well with the tank without needing to buy a $200 laminator. Can I just find some kind of plastic sheets, sandwich it with desired paper, then use an iron to heat seal it?
Pic related, is my mudskipper tank.

Okay. Maybe try ask a printing shop? Any good paper with a laser printer will last with water.

Or build a live action LCD screen behind the tank and give him a live background.

I make a cheap wash to get some high proof alcohol through my reflux still.

I also do lots of cognacs and shit from various fruit wines I make.

My favorite is mango, orange juice and pineapple done up with some white sugar to target 12.5% alcohol then distill it to 65% for a fucking tasty hard liqour.
>>
>>1085730
Can you go over what the mash recipe is and materials / tools needed to distill
>>
>>1085730
The mango cognac?

I dont follow any one recipe. I wing it each time

Generally ill do:
>3 or 4 of the large Jumex Mango juice (i think they're 64oz)
>1 can of pineapple juice
>and a carton of orange juice
>then add sugar (or honey) to get to the right brix
>for yeast I'll use the 1136

Sometimes the store will have pineapple on sale and Ill slice it up and use that instead of the juice. Ill blend it with some orange juice to a fine pulp. I guess its more of a brandy than anything
Literally just throw a bunch of complimenting fruit juices together and youll end up with something very drinkable.

I assume you mean insulated. But a cheap interior door and frame it in with 2x4s. That will help alot.

You should take some better pics (of the last step and floor)

Your walls look like a bad framing job, so your best bet would be to put some ridged insulation in. (i would just do the walls on the stairs)

What is the insulation on the ceiling of first level/floor of attic?

Either way the first step is sealing the stairway off you can either put in a door (might be a bitch with your current framing but its hard to tell) or do what >>1085537

Hey ya'll. Anybody ever use jb weld or similar epoxy to repair electric motor shafts? I pulled this armature to replace bearings and found this pitted section where the front bearing was sitting. The strangest part is the inside race of the bearing didn't show any sign of wear... anyway, i've been told you can apply jb weld then take off the excess once dried and it should work for awhile. Anyone try this?

Can you use a torch on it? I would try to silver solder it before I tried an epoxy.

i don't think jbweld will hold up

normally they just turn it down and press fit a stainless sleeve on there
>>
It's been said but I want to emphasise that the best solution is to turn down the diameter and install a sleeve. Gonna get more life from the shaft that way. Also, was there some sort of compound between the bearing and the shaft? I'm no metallurgist but to me that looks like some kind of corrosion. The fact it wasn't on the inner race of the bearing suggests to me it isn't wear. Possibly a chemical reacting with the shaft material which the bearing material was non reactive with.

I've managed to keep spiders out of my house quite easily, but coming into summer they've infiltrated all the crevices outside my house, and I just want to kill the bastards. What is the best method for such a thing?

Local stores sell premade sprays for like $20 a litre, but I got a lot of areas to spray, and I'm sure most of the price is just in the packaging. I have a sprayer I use to spray weeds, what can I fill/dilute my sprayer with?

This. Or Guineas. They will also bark when people show up and are way better bobcat bate. Lol. Sorry anon. No clue.

Just came to freak out the normies.

Guys.

I built like 100 houses in the wichita ks metro.

There are litterally spiders everywhere.

Under every board in every inch of your house.

Your brand new house.

U cant just break ground in farmer greggs fucking cornfield, throw up a cul-de-sac, and then expect to not have critters.

Before we show a house exterminators are called.

They handle most of the ones u can see.

The rest are building a nest in the walls of your childrens room.

Have fun.
>>
>>1085287
Have it done by someone. I work in lawn care and we have a service where we spray 3 feet out and 3 feet up around the base of the house. Then spray around the eves of the house and around all the doors, windows, and anything that goes through the walls. Shit works pretty well. So well that people complain about "NOW MY HOUSE HAS DEAD SPIDERS AND BUGS EVERYWHERE"

We use Talstar liquid insecticide. I think it has bifenthrin. Mix it up at 1oz per gallon. 2oz per gallon if you want to nuke the place. I imagine it's like $40 for a gallon of the stuff. I'm not sure about your area but I don't think you need a license to buy it where I'm at; just to apply it commercially.

Don't use a sprayer that has had herbicide in it so you can spray the bushes and plants around your shit too. If you get it on any vegetable plants, WASH YOUR SHIT BEFORE YOU EAT IT. take a shower after. That shit will make your skin tingle and muscles twitch if you get it on you. Also wear a respirator.

Hey, I was messing with a Bluetooth speaker but I broke off the charger port. Is there anyway I can switch the battery for normal ones(AA,AAA,C, etc...)? Would it be worth it? Would a normal battery run out to fast?
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1085203
You have to match the voltage of the battery. AA/AAA/C give you only 1.5v
>>
>>1085203
looks like that is a 3.7 volt lithium battery, but you should measure it. The thing with batteries is that they aren't a constant power source, A fully charged 12 volt measures around 14 volts, and around 10 or 11 when it's about dead.
If you get a voltage that is close it may still work.
>>
>>1085263
a 1x3 or 2x3 (for 3.5v) should do fine

Because most of us here on this Swedish canning forum either don't have enough money to buy a house, don't have the skills to build a house, or don't have the money to /diy/ their own house.

I own this jig saw.

Despite the seemingly invaluable nature of the tool, I hate using it because the cut quality is utter shit. The blade is always deflecting whenever I make a curve and the jagged finish left behind always requires extensive sanding.

I'm not expecting glass-smooth table saw cuts, or even bandsaw quality cuts, but is this normal? How much better of a cut will I get by going to a higher-end Bosch/Makita/etc jigsaw?

>>
>>1085129
you're probably using the wrong blade (wrong tpi/material)
>>
I have that piece of shit too as a backup for cordless. My base plate bend upward slightly.
>>
>>1085129

It sounds like you're going too fast with a shitty blade. That's usually the issue. And, yes, I speak from experience on this one.

The only other likely scenario is, as has been pointed out, an incorrect blade selection. It's unlikely that the saw itself is responsible, and there isn't really any noticeable difference between a low-end and high-end saber saw in terms of cut quality. Other than excessive slop/wobble in the drive shaft that the blade connects to, there isn't much, if anything, that the saw can do to affect cut quality/blade deflection.

Tl;dr: Get good blades and ensure you're using the right kind at the right speed.

I need to repair a stucco surface (damage not unlike pic related). Which stucco is preferable, given the fact that it'll be under load when it's done (need to hang a heavy awning there)?

>>
Stucco is shit; nobody uses it anymore.
>>
>>1085192
So, what do you use instead when you need to repair a stucco wall?
>>
>>1085055
It is important to note that there are two major types of stucco and they act differently. The old type (I mean really old, but you can still find them) are a lot of work but are very durable and don't dry fast. The new type are much easier to make but don't hold up as well. And now they got this even newer stuff that is essentially just glue (and shouldn't even be called stucco) but promises to do everything (I have learn not to trust such grand promises without proof). There is actually a lot of chemistry involved in this and many moisture considerations (sealing is often not the right answer with this stuff). Much like concert in that everyone thinks they can do it, but to do it right is really a craft unto itself.

Two years ago I looked into a job similar in Baltimore, got into a debate with my boss who wanted the cheap fix as that project turned into a huge headache and he had basically promised the customer it was easy despite none of us had done stucco. Once we confirmed asbestos was rolled into it I told them to drop it and asked to transfer to a different project as I knew a powder keg when I got the on site report data I had been requesting.

Despite how much work it is you can do it, but there is a lot of homework to do and labor. But given the specialty of the work the few guys who do it charge accordingly, and you got a fair number of posers out there thinking it is just another job like the losers I worked for.

>>1085354
I don't, out of the three jobs I was on my recommendation was to either take the time to fix it right or full section demolition given how those older structures were interconnected.

Cordless impact driver, I fucking want one. I have a couple of different corded drills, and they are fine, but they are not ideal driving long screws and working on cars.

Black Friday is coming up. Home Depot has the following kits on sale and I can't make up my mind.

12v Makita $99: https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/CT226

18v Makita $149: https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/CT200RW

18v Milwaukee $149: https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/combo-kits/2691-22

It's impossible to pick. Part of me feels like 12v would be fine, but then my inferiority complex starts kicking in. There is just so much jargon and bullshit surrounding cordless tools. What do?
