This is a lathe screw on faceplate that came in a box of parts when I bought my ShopSmith. I don't have a head end adapter for this faceplate but it would be nice to turn bowls. Any idea what the threading is on this? No one in maintenance at my work knows.

Chainsmoker, heavy drinker, late 30's.

I THINK my teeth appear to be "yellow-ish". About a year or so ago, I purchased a "dental kit" from a dept. store; 2 picks and a mirror. Every 3-4 months, my teeth get a bit "brownish" on the outside.

I brush 2 times a day.

What other ways can I try to get whiter teeth.

Until now I've done simple serial circuits or step-by-step projects, now I want to make a paralel circuit with 81 LEDs, 8 different colors (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, White, Pink and Violet)
I now little about resistors or the voltage I need. Any help? I need to finish this in less than a month.

Ok well where the fuck to start
The ' effective resistance' of an led decreases as it heats up, a warm led draws more current which causes more heat. This is called thermal runaway and it kills leds. That's why you need a resistor.
The resistor value is determined by the difference in voltage between the source and the led (the voltage that the resistor will have to drop (voltages add up in a series circuit and are equivalent in a parallel circuit, google kirchoffs laws)) and the current the led needs (again, thanks kirchoff) then you use ohms law r=v/i (voltage in volts divided by current in amps gives resistance in ohms).

If you want to drive lots of leds you can put them in series, one after the other, but because of kirchoffs laws they all draw the same amount of current, you might want to be careful putting different colours in series because they might need different currents. You need one resistor for a series circuit.

You can put leds in parallel but each led will require a resistor to set the current.

Then the next step is to put sets of series leds in parallel.

So r=v/i where v is source voltage - led voltage ( add up led forwards voltage for leds in series)
Oh also for resistors you should find out the power, multiply the voltage over the resistor by the current through it, the resistor needs a power rating in watts higher than the value calculated. Usually resistors are 1/4 watt, high power leds that draw a lot of current might need beefy resistors maybe 1 watt or more.

Play with the wizard for some practice

I put this band sticker on my boot when I was wasted last night, now have decided I would like it removed. Can I freeze it off or do anything else to remove it intact? I have one like this on my kayak, they're resiliant.

I'm sure due to contaminants on your boot that the adhesion wouldn't be great, surely you can just peel it off gently? Or maybe heat a bit with your missus hair drier

maybe apply some oil and use a gradual rubbing and pulling motion

Cut the front of your boot off with a band saw.
Go to goodwill and find a similar boot
Cut the front off of new boot
hot glue the two together
enjoy your brand new boots

It may seem like a troll, but i have done this to alot of shoes and boots. I always get people asking me about them. I may quit my job and goto /biz/ and ask about starting a company around the idea. pls no steal.

Hello, /diy/! Do you know how these type of keychains are made? I've seen artists who do this type of merchandise, and I'm curious about the process. I've seen transparent acrylic holders for custom keychains -printing an image you like, and then put in those- but with square, rounded forms; keychains like pic related "follow" the countour of the image. Sorry for my limited english.

They're typically ordered from china for a few cents a piece.

You submit your drawing, they print and cut on vinyl, laminate it between two sheets of acrylic, and cut it out for you.

Curious, would it be possible for someone, like a look-a-like / doppleganger / twin brother / etc to basically pretend to be me and do all the steps to get a GED?

Like, as long as they had my ID, looked like me, had all of my personal info on hand, etc. Would they be able to walk into whatever place GED tests are taken, take the test, and technically acquire a GED in my name?

Does anyone happen to know a price range on such services?

Does anyone happen to know of a way those with crippling OCD / PTSD / other symptoms can go about getting a GED or equivalent without ever being subjected to a classroom or library-like environment, even if it's under the table? Money is no object.

>What accommodations are available for people with disabilities who want to take the GED® test?
> ... the following accommodations to the standard testing environment may be made: extended time, supervised breaks, use of an audiocassette edition, calculator, scribe, and, in some instances, a private room for testing.

You just go and take the test. You can get more time for your OCD and a private room for your PTSD.

So I'm trying to make a lighter decal for my friend's band to surprise him on his birthday. I'd use a service but all of them are wholesale bulk. Does anyone know the material used for the labels? I have an inkjet printer and no art stores near me sell printer-friendly vinyl stickers (which I assume is the material.)

Do you think I can print on regular sticker paper, which kinda has A4 quality, and just spray it with a gloss coat? Or are there other options for me?

I have a loose floor tile in my bathroom. I can hear it shift when I step on it and the grout has started to crack.

I watched some videos on how to repair a loose tile without removing it and it seemed to go fine until I needed to get some glue under the tile.

I bought a tube of glue and tried to use a caulking gun to squeeze it under the tile but the glue was too think (I believe it was tile glue). Tried three different caulking guns and none of them could get enough glue out to get under the tile.

Any suggestions on a glue that I could use that is more fluid while wet that could seep under the loose tile easier (or any other suggestions for fixing the tile)?

Thanks in advance.

You might need to thin the adhesive down with a suitable solvent and use something else to shoot it in. Giant syringe or a turkey baster with a 45* cut to the tip come to mind.

That would work, but what glue would you suggest? I can't even get the tile glue out of the tube with a caulking gun. Maybe slice it open?

I want to start a class teaching 6 to 10 year old about electricity and electrical principles. How might I go about this? I'm 18 but I have teaching experience with kids of this age range at my martial arts school a few years ago and have taught individual kids about electronics especially micro controllers in their homes.

How could I go about getting some time at the local community center or something and getting my class advertised?
I already have a general idea of what the class would be like.

6-10? Shit I tried teaching some highschoolers about 555 timers and it was almost magic to them. It takes some age and experience to develop an understanding for things electrical and electronic
>>
>>1084174
Nigga I was doing that shit on my own when I was ten. It doesn't take a genius, just the right type of person. And yeah, most high schoolers in my experience are pretty apathetic about cool shit like that, but not all of them.
>>
>>1084178
No you're totally right. There were a couple definitely interested promising kids.
Teaching is just tough, I had a new respect for teachers after that experience.

Pic related serves 1.4 million people.

How big would a home water storage system need to be to serve the electric needs of an average house?

Assuming of course that you can use wind or solar to run the pump.
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Wouldn't be efficient. You're probably better off with a battery or heating something up. The pump alone will eat most of the power, then the conversion from falling water back to electricity will have some losses too.

It could be a neat experiment but I wouldn't expect to be putting the power companies out of business with this method

I just bought a sword recently (pic related) and I want to mount it to my wall. The easiest way I can think to do this would be to hang it upside-down vertically. I could do this by having it rest on two nails on either side of the blade. My only problem is I want to make sure this would be stable enough so that it doesn't fall off the wall. I'm not sure of the exact weight but it shouldn't be any more than 6 pounds.

Would a couple of nails work, or do I need to take a few extra steps and get some stronger mounts for it?

When I was a kid i got one of those bottle rocket kits for Christmas, it's just a bottle cap with a valve that releases at a certain pressure and has fins attached. Anyway i get the bicycle stand pump out of the garage and fire this thing off and its fucking garbage, goes a few feet in the air that's it.
But wouldn't you know it looking at this bicycle pump the nozzle looks like about the same size as a 2l bottle neck hole and wowee would you fucking believe it is a perfect snug fit.
Well a 2l bottle of coke will occasionally get up to around about 10 bar (not sure the psi sorry) before it tears itself a new arsehole and the smoke steam shit left after is pretty cool too, but the noise is unbelievable, yes police will be called and trust me they are not fucking happy when a half full bottle of iron bru nearly hits their car from a few streets away but they did bring it back so that was nice.
>>
>>1084069
10bar is about the same as a bicycle tire (racing bike). At that pressure there is about 10-12 liters of air stuffed in that 2 litre bottle.
>>
>>1084073
Makes sense because the gauge only went up to about 15 or something. Thinking about it now it might explain the debilitating fear I have of air tanks. Cant go near them, can't touch them can't be in the same room as them in case they pop. Is that ptsd or is it normal healthy fear?
