I want to add some platforms for my cats to climb on in my living room (pic related).
I'm going to lay pieces of wood between the beams, as shown in the picture.
I'm renting and have house inspections every 6 months, so I need to find a way to make it very easy to add/remove the plants, while still keeping them secure.
My current idea is to hammer some nails into the top of the roof beams, and leave the top of the nail sticking out about 1.5cm.... then drill holes in the wood so it will slot over the nails. Would do 2 nails on each side of each plank for stability.
Hows that sound? Any better solutions?
just use 2x2 pieces across the width on the underside of the board, to fit on either side of a beam
>>1089196
Like this? Seems good.
Though my concern would be torque flipping the board if the cat was on the edge of it.
Maybe I could drill some holes in the 4 corners and tie a loop of string around the beams.

I'm currently planning out a bed frame and I'm trying to do it entirely using mortise and tenon joints(foxtail joints for the bed slats to side rail connections, foxtail joints for the center slat brace and a pegged mortise and tenon for the center brace leg.)
I've run into issues on how to connect the outer rails together at the corners and pick related looks like it might be the ticket. Is this all a really dumb idea?
>>1088658
Here is my personal one...
Use it or don't idc. The one you posted will work fine tho.
sliding dovetail

I would use a draw pin to make sure they hold with all the motion a bed is subject to.
I want to build a small house out in the sticks for when I decide to go hunting or just go out in general, so it probably will just have a wood stove for heating and no plumbing or electricity.
I want to do all of the construction myself, but I've never really done anything of this scale before. If you could give me one tip for building a house solo other than "don't" please post it.
youtube has tons of videos on this.
Sounds like a bothy m8
The YouTube channel Primitive Technology has perfect videos showing how it's done.
How do I make gold rings and what tools do I need? What other materials will I need to forge these rings.
Also I need you to tell me like I'm someone who has absolutely no Idea what the fuck I'm doing.

Me too. I built a few foundries and casted some. I suggest u youtube grat tomoson's _king of random channel. He has like 5 worthwhilr vidya amd 1 that talks about the does and donts of his design. Shit cost me a lot of time and money to learn.
Order u some petrobond off amazon and look up "green sand casting." And "lost wax casting."
Its a hell of a rabit hole but worth it.
For detail and scale most jewelers do lost wax and use
>pic related.
An electric jewlers foundry. Commonly mislabeled as a smelter or forge also.
Of course u can diy with a propane torch and small amounts of aluminum.
Then when u have confidence u can move up to silver as its cheap.
And then gold.
Keep in mind gold is soft so often gold plated with less pure gold.
Other than that good luck.
Do some youtube and googling and hit me up here if u have questions. I can try and help.
If u have expendable income i'd just buy a setup off amazon and go nuts.
Jesus fuck. my spellcheck...

There's a more time-consuming method you can use to make gold and silver rings which doesn't require anything but a hammer. Get a gold or silver coin and, holding it on edge, begin tapping the rim with your hammer, slowly rotating the coin around so you get all the rim equally. Slowly you will begin creating a flattened rim which will become your ring. Keep going around and around until you have a rim of the size you want your ring to be. Then use your hammer and a chisel or hole punch to punch the middle out. With some 200+ grit sandpaper and elbow grease you should eventually get yourself a very simple gold or silver ring.
What is the most innovative idea that can take advantage of resources readily available (in California) and can be hand made with relative ease.

If you're going to be abusive, Home Depot sells an HDX or Buck Bros 8-in-1 that's very nice. If you're going to use it for actual screwdriving purposes, the Klein 12-in-1 is top fucking notch.
I'm a tradesman and I have a lot of the gimme 8-in-1s from manufacturers and I just abuse the shit out of them because they're a dime a dozen to me. But for actual work I use the Klein.

Am I retarded? Need to make an extension cord for two heater but I only have (lots) of these plain wires.
I'm certain that the cord can't take the load alone but would it help if I connected it to two cords to ease the load(?)
Some unforeseen events have made me a true poorfag that only have pennies to live on. But it's starting to become cold and the heat is not working at the moment.
>>1088034
if you know the power (wattage) and tell us where you are and if you can work out the cross sectional area of the wires (it should be stamped on it somewhere actually) then i'm sure someone will be able to work out what you need.
i would assume a heater should be grounded, the cable you show has no cpc (ground) but as long as you don't touch anything when its plugged in it won't kill you.
1st dont use an ungrounded connection for space heaters, thats a disaster waiting to happen
2nd those wires seem, to me, like they could take about 8 or so amps, so for a heater, it would require you to keep it on the lowest setting or you are gonna risk melting the insulation on those wires
and lastly, why dont you just go by some proper wire? its not that expensive, for less than $20 bucks you can get 10 meters of proper gauge 3 wire insulated cable
stay safe during the cold, gl
forgot to mention, if you do decide to use double the wires, like you mention in the op, those need to be exactly the same length (and from the same cable) to allow current to flow "equal" parts on both cables
still, buy proper cabling, or "borrow" some from a broken appliance. gl

So i'm looking at making a water feature in our back yard, and I would like some advice if what i have planned will work.
I've drawn an image with over 9000 hours in paint. so the plan is to buil 2 tiers of bowls from river stones and mortar. on top of those bowls I would fill it in with a layer of Plastic sheeting and then maybe screed that and cover the inside with small stones. the pump would be housed inside a small chamber inside it, or a submersible pump might go in the bottom pool concealed. The feature goes right next to a power socket so thats not a concern. I'm thinking either a waterfall of one of those japanese bamboo things might be nice to drain water from top to bottom. I'm just not sure if the plastic/screed combo is enough to keep it watertight? Anty other advice would be cool too. I'll post a pic of the corner of the house in question.
Here we go.

Hi /diy/, my girl asked me if I could make her a fake parang for tomorrow (zombiewalk in buenos aires) so she could go as Maggie from TWD, and this is what I've come up with.
It's #16 steel sheet and some scrap wood. I ran out of black paint so I blued it with burned motor oil and and oxy.propane torch, then I sanded the edges to create a fake edge.
>>1090204
This is the one from the show, I don't watch TWD, but from what I saw on google images, it came out pretty close to the original. The handle I couldn't make it better with this time frame and without paint.
>>1090204
Nice.
Maybe a little battle scaring? Flame kiss the wood?
Looks nice Op. I would fold the edge over though if I were you just so there are no accidental slices as even sheet metal can give some nasty cuts
