what are some cute things i could do for my girlfriend for our 7 month anniversary?
>>1077131
Celebrating 7 months looks fucking needy and abnormal.
You shouldnt celebrate an anniversary until a year.
Does she have some things that need to be fixed you haven't fixed yet? You should fix them. Also it's getting cold and you don't need to know sewing to thread her initials into some mittens. Girlfriends love mittens with their name on them. Also mason jars with handles on them... Just go to etsy and see what popular things you can make..
>>1077131
Wait until a year you faggot.
So, recently I bought this thing:
https://www.amazon.com/Kemo-Electronic-Ultrasonic-Signal-Generator/dp/B00NRH95AY/
I didn't realize that the unit doesn't come preinstalled with a barrel connector. It just has two wires marked [-] and [+].
Is it possible to take a common electronic device 12v power supply (say, from an old router), strip the barrel connector, and solder the wires directly onto the thing and have it operate safely?
If not, what should I do to power this thing?
Pic related. It's the device in question.
Yes. ensure that the power supply output isn't rippled though, that could cause issues
>>1088803
I thought the whole point of power supply is to provide uniform power? Can I just plug it into a surge protector and make it not ripple? I'm very new at this stuff.
>>1088811
He just means to make sure it isn't a shitty power supply. Poor power supplies may vary their voltage and only average around 12V; better ones will stay over to their target. You could look at the supply's output on a scope to check if you've got one, but if not it'll probably be just fine. Also, make sure your brick is rated for equal or more than the amperage your thing will draw.
Bought this old meat grinder from a thrift store and I was wondering what your the best way to fix it up, nice and food safe, would be?
Kitchen ware diy general as well maybe.
>>1088659
>nice and food safe
Wash it. Wash it again. Done.
>>1088677
and soak that shit in rubbing alcohol then wash it again
>>1088659
Wash well once, very hot water; soak in a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach to 1 gallon of water for 5 minutes; rinse and let air dry. Use a light coat of food grade oil or shortening on any steel parts. You're good to go.
Hello /diy/
I suppose I need help with these tools. What are their names? I only got the bucket and drill.
Thank you in advance. If anything is indistinguishable, please let me know.
>>1088505
Where did you get this classified document?
>>1088510
From a classmate. It's a kind of homework and I want to finish it but I've had no luck so far.
I also got circular saw and handsaw
>>1088505
It looks like #61 is a brain
I'm going to make a pic related
>Fire pit with steel wheels
I already have all the materials needed except a day not frozen over
Just wanted to run it by diy before i give myself autism from paint fumes or something.
Taking two steel wheels flipped end to end.
Grind and bevel the edge.
Weld on stupid high amps because my welder is rated for sheet steel only, will probably have to do three runs.
Use torch or maybe cutoff wheel if im feeling ballsy to cut a decent hatch to feed wood.
Bolt drum brake hub to bottom as a fuckheavy base and air flow/ash escape.
Sandblast the outside and repaint with high temp engine or bbq paint, rustic red with black accents.
Start fire and feed high temp food to burn off interior paint.
Cook victory cobblers on top
Optional - Rivet and hinge cut off hatch to use as a door
Any flaws in this plan?
>>1087804
I wouldn't cook on it and I'd be concerned with how long it will last but other than that it sounds fine.
>>1087804
I built this out of a steel rim and the basket from a washing machine.
Makes a great fire pit, and you can put a grate over the top and grill with it.
>>1087804
>Weld on stupid high amps because my welder is rated for sheet steel only, will probably have to do three runs.
one pass is probably fine for something like this. they're stamped sheet steel anyway.
>>1087813
>I wouldn't cook on it and I'd be concerned with how long it will last but other than that it sounds fine.
after everythings burned off it seems like it'd be okay for cooking - but not real good at concentrating the heat
Can someone recommend me some true blackout curtains? I want my room to be like a fucking cave at noon. Does something like this exist under $40?
ikea tulpur
>>1087013
i remember when we were poor my mom bought security blankets and put them with the heat-reflecting side out on our windows in the summer. it kept it cool and also blocked a huge amount of the light.
barring that, just get a thick blanket and nail it to the wall around your window.
>>1087013
Foil windows.
I have these bluetooth speakes that have a faulty connection to the mini usb port, so the battery doesn't charge.
I dont care about the battery or the bluetooth, I just want to know if theres a way to make the speakers work with an aux cable or something like that.
>>1087006
>if theres a way to make the speakers work with an aux cable or something like that
How do you think headphones work? They are just two speakers with a male jack.
>>1087008
I know, but wont they need to be connected to a source of electricity because theyre bigger? or is the jack enough?
>>1087017
Maybe. Depends on the driver. Since you have given us zero information about the specs of the driver we can't really help you.
Me and my girlfriend are looking at apartments here in The Overland Park area and near by (Close to Kansas City). Yes, we live with her mom. Anyway....
What things should I look for when looking at these shit holes? I been going over a lot of them the past few weeks and reading reviews, but most of the reviews are 6 months to a year+ old.
Next is security. I dont need people stealing my shit. I looked around at a few things online and thought about getting a few (2ish?) wifi cameras or maybe going super cheap and setting up some old android phones as wifi cameras. Also thought about a motion detector for when we are not home.
Temperature. Making the place as comfy without jacking up the temp or knocking it down. Going to get door draft stopper for the main door, but most of the apartments I seen have a set of big ass windows with a sliding door in the dining/living room. What do I need if there is air leaking in this?
Shades/blinds, light or dark colors? I also have two lasko fans which can move a lot of air. Also thinking about getting a small space heater (one with a built in fan) to use in whatever area of the apartment we are in if needed.
Will add more when I think of it.
Forgot to add. Fireplaces, almost all the apartments I looked at have them and I dont plan on using it. Do I need to cover it or leave it? If I do need to cover it or something, what do i use?
anon, i think you are over thinking this.
It's just an apartment, if it seems clean and dry, look for any water leaks, just basic stuff like that.
As far as temperature goes, thats going to be dictated more by the building construction and what floor you are on. I'm in leafland, the highest floor I lived on was the 7th, and i never once turned the thermostat up, and that was a concrete building. Basements are the comfiest but then you have to worry about your shit because your on ground level.
Find a concrete building or cinder block, wood construction is no good for multiple dwellings, you can hear fucking everything.
Enjoy not living with your mother in law, you wont even notice what shades and blinds you have up a week later.
>>1086967
>Me and my girlfriend are looking at apartments
you must consider what would happen if your girlfriend wasn't in the picture.
you would say "i am looking" not "me am looking" therefore you should have said "my girlfriend and i are looking"
Is this a fire hazard?
>>1086605
Electric or hot water?
I wouldn't if it is electric; there is supposed to be certain clearance level around them. If it is hot water then no fire hazard.
>>1086608
It's electric
How do I secure this piece of delrin for flycutting?
Some sort of glue?
Clamping it in a vise deforms the edges and it still moves.
I need the glue to not be there when I'm done tho...
>>1086461
Delrin is a great material but a real bitch to work. I'd glue it to something more stout then machine the glue off later.
>>1086469
would laying it down on a flat surface and running a bead of hot glue around the edge be sufficient?
>>1086461
flycutting what? making it thinner? no lathe?
stick a threaded rod in it to cut the perimeter then clamp edges to finish it off
you're gonna spend a lot to glue delrin
Looking for a miter saw but I'm a bit of a dumbass. Is a miter saw different from a compound miter saw?
Have my eye on a 10' sliding compound miter saw to build a floating deck with a pergola next summer, waiting to see if I can get a good deal on black friday. I have plans for a design on the decking, something like herringbone with alternating colored planks. I would need tight beveled cuts for that, right, or would that be an angled cut?
>>1086423
It's a miter cut.
Whats the opinion of rigid saws?
I have a 20 yo. Delta non slider and have been looking too. I like the makita because it has dual slides, also I think Hitachi has a dual slide. I am really wanting a Bosch with the articulated arms. I have a workbench built around the saw so the sliding is a concern.
This was my basis
Another set of butt splice connectors is just above the set you see at the top, there.
I fucking hate car repair.
>>1088580
Thats not even that bad. I've worked on much worse
>>1088599
This was actually my first time doing anything electrical on a vehicle other than the stereo head; I was just extremely surprised. The actual module contacts were rusted the fuck out, hilariously, but I new-guy'd the fucking wires together (after ruining 4 butt splices) and taped them up, so we'll see how many fires start over the winter.
I bought a beater truck to drive up to deer camp.
Ended up having to pull and replace half the goddamn wiring because it was mostly butt splices and electrical tape.
Fuckin awful.
>>1088562
i don't want this feel
Are you disappointed you didn't win the election?
>>1088562
God dammit yes! Fucking love you domefag.
Never change.
Can we have a thread going with homemade surival equipments? i will post what i have and you guys can join in!

The problem with these is that there's no way to purify and store water. That gives you 72 hours at the most.
It also renders the fishing hooks pointless because, if by some miracle you do catch something eating it would bring on dehydration quicker.
I made one that was different to put in my pocket when I was boating. It would be there in case I fell out or something.
>large altoids tin
>emergency blanket
>needle
>fishing line
>razor blade
>small flint and magnesium fire starter
>cotton ball
>condom
>iodine drops
The blanket and condom are the bulkiest items but they will fit ok. I wish I had room for two condoms but whatever.
Anyway I covered two of the big three, shelter and water.
I always fished around popular spots so I never really thought I'd be stranded for more than a few days and after a week I'd probably be begging for death anyway.
Otherwise I think you did ok.
