So I had this sub woofer connected to my computer for about 7 years now and recently discovered that it sounds bad.
So the problem is: I connect everything and it sounds, but depending on how you connect the speakers it would sound one or another (left or right), and if I make it to sound both of them i t wouldnt sound good.
I think it's a line in problem that it's not connecting correctly.. Does someone had the same problem in the past?

(sorry for my bad English)

hello fellow /diy/ers!
got some actually pretty decent laptop in return for a favour. decided to actually use it insteat of reselling. thing is battery is dead. decided to replace the all-hail-to-the-18650. while tearing apart the enclosure i ripped a temp sensor off the pcb. pic related. 2 questions:
1. would it work somewhat safely without that one sensor because soldering flexcables is a pain in the ass.
2. the metal clips holding the fuckers together: once removed how to reattach to ensure same conductivity?

I can't answer your questions, but I can add one. I read that some laptop charging circuitry remembers that the batteries died and will not charge new ones unless you reprogram the charging circuitry, which would require information not readily available.

I have some old laptops that I would like to repair same as you are planning. One thing that really pisses me off is that some laptops refuse to boot off dc power whether the battery is good or not, or even installed for that matter.
>>
>would it work somewhat safely without that one sensor

'somewhat safely' is the operative term. or, it may refuse to charge at all without it, meaning you'd have to solder a resistor in its place.

> once removed how to reattach

one way is to make an electric welder using a microwave transformer. youtube has vids on battery-tab welding. simpler way is a good 35W soldering iron. you'll probably need to file/grind off the nickel coating to make the solder stick. if the tabs break, use #14 stranded wire.

>One thing that really pisses me off is that some laptops refuse to boot off dc power whether the battery is good or not, or even installed for that matter.

this is just common-sense capitalism: take 'em for all they're worth. if you disagree, go back to russia, comrade.

I have a fossil machine with an overheating CPU that's not worth the few bucks to fix. is there any random household item i could smear between the ancient (~6 years old) CPU and stock cooler that might make it last a bit longer?

Toothpaste or Hand cream with glycerine.

Works pretty well, but in 2 years you will have to change them eventually.

otherwise you could use an grinder and grind the both survaces to mirror shine finish, this helps more than most thermal greases.

I got over 20 degrees lower temps with grinding and using liquid metal as cooling medium
>>
>>1088847
assuming i dont grind, do i scrape off the original paste or just layer the new stuff on top?
>>
>>1088850
always get rid od of the old stuff.

and then really just a small drop in the middle and place the cooler on it.

I have no idea what this is. there are three of them around a camera flash capacitor discharge circuit. I've read that they are resettable fuses and i've never seen white capacitors. now removed they all measure ~50nF, resistance out of range. so i figure they are indeed capacitors. are they a special type of capacitor?

this would be a cap for sure.
chip-type fuses are usually larger and rather flat and will always have their rating either printed directly on them or on the silkscreen around them, usually with an F designator, not a C or R.
pic related, right in the middle.

fuses like this have a square cross-section, not rectangular like ops image, and have larger contacts so they fit into sockets

Hello /diy/
I don't know where to go with this type of questions, so I'll try to explain it here

I'm currently studying web design, and I came across something that I can only describe as high quality black magic. I'm using a css stylesheet that I got from a friend, since his styles are way better than mine, and he told me to study them. Anyway, as I was trying to implement the stylesheet, I came across with the fact that, regardless of anything I do, the effects of the stylesheet never change, as long as the route for the stylesheet is written.

I even tried erasing the whole css folder (there was only 2 files there anyway) without changing the code, and it still shows the same fucking colors and everything.

I don't know how am I supposed to take this, I just can't fucking deal with this shit, please /diy/, tell me why is this shit happening.

So I'm finally getting around to doing laminate floors in my living room and have hit a few equipment snags.
1. I need a hammer drill to place anchors for transitions strips.
2. My undercut saw I bought for doing tile in the bathroom is a pain in the ass and I have 7 doors to do...

Are these cheap ass oscillating tools worth a shit for doing doors, and how the fuck am I supposed to make a nice transition for this garage door?

>>

>oscillating tools worth a shit for doing doors
yes, get a good blade for the cheap tool, be aware these tools aren't great at clearing sawdust from the cut.

Also you can drill with a masonry bit in a regular drill for your anchors

>>1088236
>>1088237
sounds like a good plan to me, use ear pro when cutting that threshold.

is it worth going to home depot or lowes on black friday to do some window shopping on deals, or do they pull the usual markup/markdown tricks as tech retailers do?
25 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Nothing is worth going anywhere on black friday. You can buy tools online now for reasonable prices.

Also, if they advertise a super cheap below cost price, they only legally need to carry 1 in inventory. So when you get there to get your sawzall and dildo attachment, they will unfortunately have sold out.

I've been smoking pipes for more than 20 years now, and decided I wanted to try my hand at some restorations, so I've been buying old estate pipes from eBay in rough shape with the intention of fixing them up. They're for me to smoke, not for resale, so they don't have to be perfect, but I'd like them to be functional and look nice.

I've spent months reading tutorials and I think I'm ready to get started, but one of the major problems I'm having is there's a lot of conflicting advice. For example, some people say you shouldn't oil a pipe, that all you need is some carnauba wax. Others say you should oil the pipe but avoid wax, since the briar will breathe better. And as for WHICH oil to use -- Jesus. Some people swear by olive oil, and others say it will go rancid and ruin your pipe. Others say you should use tung oil or boiled linseed oil, and others say you'll poison yourself that way. And still others recommend "nose oil," just rubbing the natural oils from your skin into the wood.

Cleaning and fixing a stem is even worse; some people say to soak it in bleach to soften the plastic for sanding, while other people say it will ruin the plastic entirely and all it needs is some mineral spirits and lots of elbow grease. But even the mineral spirits is controversial to some people, who say you should only be using food-grade alcohol, like vodka, and never rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits.

Help?

man I don't actually know, but I'd say grain alcohol, a high smoke point oil like grapeseed or flaxseed, and beeswax. Then you would have minimal toxicity, but should fulfill purposes. I know the least about wax though but beeswax smells sweet so I figure it should complement

that is a shitty joint to be honest but if it works it works

solder iron not hot enough and too much solder, probably poorly wetted and is cold

Attention car owners! Concerned anon here to make sure that you know/have the following:
-A scissor jack or some kind of jack in your car (and the appropriate tool to turn the scissor jack upward)
-A spare tire inflated to the correct psi as outlined by your car's owner's manual
-A tire plug kit for tire punctures
-A lug nut tire wrench (the x kind or the classic "rumble in the jungle" gang weapon tire iron)
-A torque wrench with good leverage for later

Please don't be like me and get stuck without ever having changed tires once in your life. DO it under controlled circumstances. That is all.

Im as fond of /diy/ as the next Man - but, I cant remeber a year where I haven't got my moneys worth out of a car breakdown/recovery association membership. Can have the ability to do everything - but lock yourself out in the middle of fucking nowhere, tools in the car, and its raining ? - you'l be glad. Change a tyre on a motorway/busy highway? - fuck that.

Where I would agree, 100-pro - check your spare, and carry a good one.. and if you driving the kind of shitheap where someones stole the jack, you got other problems.
