I over tightened the screw on one end of this shaft. Now I can't get it loose. I can't hold the shaft to prevent it from turning with the screw. I've tried pliers but it still spins. I don't want to use vise grips and possibly crush the shaft.
What are my options here?
throw it in the trash and zip tie a dildo to your rail instead
Wrapped narrow piece of 180 grit sandpaper around the shaft and then clamped it with some pliers.
That did the trick.

good thinkin lincoln!
Hey /diy/
I got those LED I bought for a project, they aren't powerful enough and I'd like to figure out if you guys would know what to do with them.
Here's the datasheet : http://www.produktinfo.conrad.com/datenblaetter/175000-199999/184551-da-01-en-INFRAROT_SENDE_DIODE_TSUS_5202_CQW13_VIS.pdf
>>1079728
>not powerful enough
stick them in parallel with resistors until you have enough power
>>1079733
They don"t have enough luminosity. So do you know what could be done with low luminosity IR LED ?

What are these black lines on the pcb? Do they divide the circuits? This tv works for maybe an hour but then the back lighting goes out. If I restart it, it will work as it should. Model is ln-s4695D. Anybody have any ideas where i should look? I'm getting 0 voltage off the power out to the inverters. I was thinking it might be a mosfet but I'd think it would be quicker to go out.
Looks like separate low and high voltage areas, the white chips in between are probably optocouplers of some kind. My bet would be maybe bad caps, could be a mosfet too.
These things piss me off because the power boards are generally shit compared to the rest of the set, and all in all it's probably cheaper just to buy a new board, but if you can fix that one and do it well, maybe it will last.
>>1079003
That's what I'm hoping. The set itself is pre led thin line bullshit. It looks great and sounds good enough. I'm looking for insight on what might cause this though. It definitely seems like a thermal issue. If I read correctly you are telling me that those big black lines are isolations between circuits, if so I should only have to test to the left bit of it, seeing how once the back lighting cuts out I end up with everything else working. Does that sound correct?
>Anybody have any ideas where i should look?
it's almost always the electrolytic caps.
checklist for bad caps:
>smaller than a D cell battery?
>rated over 200 volts?
>right next to a heatsink?
score 2 out of 3 and there's 99% chance that cap will test low value/leaky/high ESR.
What does /diy/ think of him?

Diresta is okay but have you ever tried pooping while taking a shower and stomping it down the drain?

He has the balls to try anything but no so much the skills to match. His woodworking ability is that of a journeyman carpenter: That is to say, he slaps everything together with a couple of brads and calls it good. In one of his videos, he even uses a fisheye lens to hide the fact that the cabinet he just built was significantly out of square and the doors don't line up correctly. Such, it won't fall apart on your but it ain't pretty.
Jack of all trades, master of none.
I am going to try to keep a welding general up now, because it is such a fascinating topic.
A couple questions to start things off:
Who here has heard of underwater welding (pic related)
How many of you would follow a regular thread like this?
Also some more personal questions:
I am looking to buy a mig welder. So far in my welding journey I have been using equipment at work/school, and dont have one of my own. My thought was to get a Hobart 210mvp, which comes with a spool gun and can take both 110 and 220. Is this a good welding machine? The research I have done seems ro suggest so, but maybe someone here knows a better machine. Sorry for the long post, future OP posts in future /wmg/ threads will be cleaner. Also any contributions as far as links to good websites for resources to put in future OP posts are welcome.
I'm a newbie to 4chan but I'd follow a thread like this. I've been selling welding supplies for the past 16 years been in the business for about 25 Hobart makes a good machine for small shops or home use their a lighter duty machine made by Miller. Another machine you should look at is Lincolns mp210 it's a mig, tig & stick all in one (dc tig only) it runs about $1100 and the spoolgun for it is about $200 not sure if that's out of your price range but it'd give you some more options than just mig.
I'm going to start the process towards getting my welding certs from community college. Could anyone who has experience tell me everything they can about how it was for them or what it's like?
Also, can anybody recommend any good websites on how to start welding on my own please?
Good thread idea op. I'm also interested in underwater basketweaving.

>Who here has heard of underwater welding
I have. But again, I work in the dive biz... Biological research diver, but over here it's the same school that teaches underwater construction as well as research divers.
Hey guys, I'm a visitor from /tg/
I sprung a leak in my attic and looking up there I found pic related. It was all wet a definitely the source of the leak. I think it only goes when I have the dishwasher and the washing machine on at the same time.
As a diy novice, I have no idea why someone would build a pipe with a hole in the top.
Personally, I was planning to just wrap the little fella up somehow, but thought I'd check with you intelligent folk to see if you have some good advice.
Thanks in advance!
Apologies for the side photo.
It must be some kind of old air gap. Used so the you can't contaminate the water supply
>>1081606
Sounds plausible.
So in theory if I wrap it up, it's not going to explode or do something that could actually make it worse?
> Pic related
The point where the water drains is stuck in a downwards motion, anyone got any solutions that won't leave a mess?
>>1081552
>The point where the water drains is stuck in a downwards motion
Water goes down by gravity into the drain you idiot
I don't think you understand. The part that is pushed down and acts as a plug is stuck
>>1081556
>stuck
how? just take it out the normal way
/diy/ I need your wisdom on this here stripped Allen screw. I have purchased an airsoft version 2 gearbox second hand, but the previous owner was very negligent in taking care of it, he tried to remove the stripped screw by JB Welding a 5/64 on it, but failed. I am afraid of doing any work on it due to a lack of drill bits and screw extractors that could fit it.
Drill it out or grind it off.
>>1081233
It looks really bad. You could try the ol rubberband thing but you'll most likely have to drill it out.
>>1081234
>>1081236
The screw is perfectly flush with the gearbox, using a dremel is out of the question, and drilling it out is questionable.
So I dug up most of this stump to get the branching roots. Then I had it ground. Can I just fill back in with dirt or should I removed all the mulch from the stump. Specifically my concerns are bugs (termites, although I've never had a problem) as I'm going to build a deck here (grass discolour not an issue).
Just leave it. Termites are more interested in solid wood and dry areas for homes. Burry the mess with dirt and you'll have one healthy spot for your ugly grass
Don't leave it, dig it out.
Continue to dig, form walls and pour in concrete, add a steel door and use as a bunker,
What do you think this place is? /B?
Dig it out. Don't half ass your own property
So im stuck and lost with what supersickideatodo.jpg just finished the very ending of children of the korn and dont want to see this mission abort and.see the mission jus left in the car. Already got some cogs a tiny bird cage 39gauge wire and 5 small thin quartz crystals Halp. Idears?
>>1080355
Maybe stop doing drugs.
Because that was unintelligible.
If you are trying to wrap a crystal, just ask.
If i were doing drugs i wouldnt be posting this derp @1080625
Cogs are the gears that you would find i.e. standing clock
Not just wrapping crystals. Trying to incorporate cyrstals, the cogs, a tiny bird cage together
Im asking for ideas\ examples of things to do with .30 gauge wire
Its very thin
Ive made some three and four wire lanyard about 4in in length with. May be usable as skeletal workings or idk
Began creating a skull
Will post images when they dont look like toddler scribbles
Non slip tape for stairs. Is there any that don't tear up floors? My parents are getting older and I want to put it on the stairs so they don't slip but they are stubborn and won't let me do it because they're afraid it will damage the hardwood step. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
Do it anyway, nothing short of a bomb blast gets that resin-backed tape off.
Hell, it'll be there long after the wood probably rots away
It's easier to replace a hardwood step than a hip.

Has anyone ever build a realistic artificial window for a basement like pic related? Could you set it to a day and night cycle?
>>1079943
No, but doesn't look too hard... a box on a window with a light diffuser and some high quality rgb leds could get you any color or shade of white you wanted.
>>1079943
What about a light pipe/sun tunnel to let real light in?
>>1080713
What if he's 100 feet underground?
All jokes aside, the fake sunlight idea would be cheaper and easier unless he has to dig to install the window anyways.
I made a fucking four clover in some glas. Idk why.
>>1079352
For the lulz
Should have been a seven leaf clover
what' so special about a 4-leaf clover? all clover have 4 leaves. the only thing special i see is the green color. that's very very rare, they're almost always brown.
What's the best method to make this cut and not fuck up?
>>1079332
clamp straightedge to it and use circular saw

seriously ask an adult to do it for you if you can't cut a straight line without fucking up
Hello I'm working for a Institution which has a large open presentation-hall with high windows in it's building. Frequently, birds fly in and try to get out via the windows and fly against it and die after some attempts.
I want this to stop but my boss is very concerned with bad aesthetics and we can neither buy nor order premade ones here.
My question to you is, what form do the stickers need to have and how much do I need to apply for birds to avoid them.
I'm gonna do them myself, planned is to order Vinyl silhouttes but I saw transparent ones too, anyone know what kind of material?
