pic related Removed old rotten patio roof, need to install new in its place. There was 7.5Hx2.75D beam where this hole now is, but the replacement doesn't have to be this thick - the new structure is lighter than the old.

All in all, I need to fill exactly 1" of depth (and about a foot of height and 12' of length) with something that will be a patio structural support member, and cover it with stucco. Usually, I'd just get high quality 3/4" plywood, but that'll be 1/4 short of what I need, and I want to use every fraction of an inch available for strength. However, I don't think 1" plywood exists.

So, what would be viable options here? I'm pondering two at the moment. One, get to 1/2" sheets, glue them together (exterior grade titebond?) and install as one. Two, use a 1" thick board (but then again, I don't know if I can buy it anywhere, and I don't have a thicknesser. Anything else comes to anon's mind?

put a new beam of the exact same dimensions of the old beam back in.

the fact that its oversized doesn't matter when compared to the hassle and cost of building around it like you are talking about. it doesn't hurt anything being oversized, and i bet you the stucco finish will look better.
>>
>>1083727

Go 3/4 and 1/4, presumably their glue joints will be better than yours. Worst case it still has the strength of the 3/4.

Autist here. Is it feasable to make a small submarine out of a tanker traincar? Or is this as much a meme as the shipping container bunker?

it is possible but it would be cheaper and better to make one from scratch

Probably correct. It would nee to be reinforced and have the front and rear made to be more streamlined.

I think I've heard of drug smugglers doing this. But they have to do it because they don't really have any other alternatives.

So thinking about it now, I guess it would be DIYable

Anyone know the process for vacuum sealing something with a peelable attachment? Bacon has it, you just grab the two sides at the corner and peel. Is it just finding the right temp on the heat sealer?

Is there a way to put a piece of small cardboard in the corner when you seal it?
Itll leave the corner unsealed so you can pull it apart?
>>
>>1083463
Used to work in a place that bagged stuff. Has more to do with the plastic that usually has a crosshatch pattern so it makes a good but weak seal. You have to leave a part that isn't sealed that's big enough to get a good grasp on.
>>

found this. doesn't quite show how it's sealed, but it does show a bunch of expensive equipment I probably can't get. surely there's something I could use at home?

I want to create a rope lift system to get up a hill or send materials, where I tie a rope between two trees and use an electric motor and a lipo battery that should be able to connect to the rope and carry people or objects. How should I do it?

Less than 111 Wh. A standard 6 cell lipo. I have an electric bike with a 800-900 Wh battery made of 18650s and that takes me up a lot of hills before it runs out of juice.

When money don't matter. What are the best ceiling, furniture, walls and floors i could put in my house.
For example: put Eames and le corbusier furniture, they are the best, put marble floors because....

Also for exteriores, (best material for rain and storm and all)

When money doesn't matter you can put whatever the fuck you like, unless you are a tasteless shit who doesn't know what you like and just go for the "best" because you have no idea what is what.

Modernist interior is a genre, just like steampunk is a genre, there is no "best".

If you have money but no taste and want to build a house, hire an architect, or just dick it yourself and make another shitty Trump tower.

That said, if you want maximum safety, get a legit bunker like bunkeranon.

If you want maximum comfort, make an extremely controlled environment like a space station that is sitting on the ground and you can adjust tempreture and humidity etc.

If you want to survive flooding, build it off the ground.

There is no best. It depends on many things.

For interior it is really a matter of taste and what you like. If you have more money than taste, just befriend some designers and hang out with them, or go to some famous art schools, or just spend time reading design magazines, or just hire an architect to copy a villian lair from a movie you like. Just don't use any container.
>>
>>1083327
Taste is subjetive is like you think sneakers is the best chocolate and i think it's twinks (not true btw)

but let me change the question to "What rich people put for ceiling, floors, furniture and walls" i think i specify better here, and yes i'm tasteless, i know how to flow colors in clothes and furniture but i need the eyes of other people because i'm not a island, but there are things that are obviusly better than another things, like you can't say Fíat is better than Ferrari, well the same with this, you can't say a Carpet floor is better than marble because Carpet floor last 4 years and get dirty very fast and marble floor last a lifetime and it's easy to clean, so beign rational for taste can go well

Could i make my ijust2 clearo temperature controlled by measuring the voltage change of the 0,3ohm coil as it heats with my arduino uno and adjusting the power applied accordingly with one of the PWM output pins and a transistor?

>voltage change of the .3oh coil

wat? If the piece you're talking about is acting like a thermocouple then no, you would need an amplifier to do so. You can easily purchase temperature sensors and go by air temperature if you want, or make an amplification circuit for your thermocouple.
>>
>>1083324

I could easily buy a lot of things, but this i want to do just for fun.

So you're saying if the coil is powered, there would be no measureable voltage change as it heats?

Charging uneven 18650s.png

So I'm planning to use my DIY powerbank to charge some 18650 batteries which I use in my camping headlight.
The problem is my headlight holds 2 batteries and powerbank is designed for 5. So I will end up in a situation where I will have 4 discharged batteries and one fully charged.

Is it safe to charge those batteries when there is an uneven charge between them?

I don't want to overcharge the fully charged one, because we all know what happens next.

I'm using TP4056 charging circut and the batteries are UNPROTECTED Panasonic ncr18650b.
8 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Why do you think it's designed for five? You should charge each cell by itself.
>>
>>1083241

There isn't really an issue with overcharging the one good cell.

The problem you're going to have is that the one charged cell is going to be dumping all the current it can into the uncharged ones. Depending on how good the cells are (specifically, how low their ESR is), that may well not be much better than a dead short.

If you place some resistors in the neighborhood of 10Ω and 2W in series with each cell, you'll be alright. Downside is that the charger might not work properly.

However, if that...schematic...you've drawn up is ACTUALLY how the charger is designed (all cells are simply connected in parallel, just ditch the fully-charged cell. I don't expect you'd see any problems with the resultant 25% increase in per-cell bulk charge current. If you're paranoid, just replace RPROG with a higher value to set the current limit lower.
>>
OP here.

Holy shit I'm so fucking dumb.

I just realized that this powerbank is in parallel configuration. Meaning I can just take out this green fully charged battery and the charging circut will still work like nothing happened.

It does not matter if there are 2 or 20 batteries in parallel, it will still work!

hey there DIY. I will preface this post by admitting I am neither smart nor wise. I have very little skill in electrinoics and I am probably the least qualified person to handle a soldering iron. Below is an image of a project I'm working on. I can't seem to figure out how to fix this so I don't burn down my house. I'm wiring led s together. I got them from a toy lightsaber. there are three different colored leds. red, blue and white. I wired them to a switch using 3 AA batteries ( the same that powered them in the toy lightsaber) The battery pack gets super hot. The red leds get super hot and then dim and studded. The blue leds get terrifically bright. The white led illuminates but not as bright as the blue. The good news is the switch turn the lights on and off but clearly something needs to change in order for all of this to work properly. can you help? Thanks in advance!

>>
Studder not studded. I'm an idiot
>>
>>1083070
You need a current limiting resistor in there. You can just disconnect the wire going to the middle of the switch, solder the wire to the resistor, then solder the other side of the resistor back to the switch.

What value of resistor you ask? I'll assume that the leds are rated for 20mA, so somewhere around 470 ohms should be about right. You can increase the resistance to reduce the amount of current and make the batteries last longer. Why not just use a 1 kohm?
>>
>>1083079
You can probably get away with a resistor as small as 75 ohms, but you are better off not pushing the limits, especially since you have probably already damaged the red led.

I've got a 3D printer, bought it years ago but I never got it quite calibrated right though.
They sold me one with a 0.7mm nozzle, I didn't know at the time how ridiculous that was.
There was a lot of sketchy stuff with that purchase, I was charged the import transaction fee by the shipping company and the only reason I could imagine they sold me a 0.7mm nozzle was so that I would (and did) end up buying an overpriced 0.1mm nozzle from them.

Also, the parts of the 3D printer didn't fit together as they should have, made assembly difficult.

while i was searching through ebay for a used tv i noticed a lot of devices who are "not working anymore".

and i just thought to myself that it couldnt possibly be that hard to repair these, right?

Has anyone ever bought a dead tv for the purpose of repairing it and had succes with it?

And how do i know whether its worth to invest my time in it, or better not take the risk because its hopeless?

Easy enough to repair most likely, but are you going to gamble shipping and all the additional costs on something that may cost an additional $200 than you paid, only to flip it for $50 more than what you paid?

There is a reason there are a lot of listings anon, no one buys them because they are not worth it. Think son.
>>
Depends on your skill, equipment, and how much you value your life and time.

Back in the 70s granddad used to repair old TVs as a side job. On occasion when a TV better than the one he owned would turn up, he would buy it as broken for pennies and fix it as set it up for home use.
When i was born there where like 4 television screens wired in various dangerous ways in the living room.

However those where the cathode ray tube powered macromachines of the days of old.
Very few things a "handyman" could fix on his own exist these days.
The newer things are a pain to fix because they are less standard, no repair manuals exist, even the owner manuals are just 2 sheet printouts telling you not to lick the sockets.
Depending on the damage to the TV you might be able to fix it you might not. Again depends on your skill and equipment.
>>
>>1082893
well first i am not trying to sell it i just want a working tv for myself.

and i would also only go for local ones, which i could pick up myself. so shipping would be out of the way

Machinist fag here. Been using pic related for years. They would usually last around 6 months before going to shit from the metal dust and oil that inevitably would get inside. This failure rate was acceptable for me as this particular calculator doesn't cost that much. Recently we got a contract and have been machining a lot of ductile, which if you are not familiar, is like working in a coal mine. I have gone through 3 calculators in a month and am fed up.

Anyone know of any good dust/water proof calculators? None of these specialty "machinist " calculators mention anything about dust or water proof and frankly I do not need a those features anyway. Casio makes waterproof one that even has a removable keyboard to wash but it only has basic functions. I would love to have something with all the functions of a scientific calculator.

Any suggestions?

i've experimenting with making homemade cutting fluid.
I follow this video that explains that you can emulsify oil and water if you add dishwasher soap to the mix.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KWO9CD4Kx8
And kinda works, if you shake the bottle before you use it it works perfectly. But the oil and water end up in different fases after a few minutes.
Does anyone try this with better results?
Or knows a better formula for homemade cutting fluid

When a metal flake embeds itself into your body you just submerge the wound into cutting fluid.
The wound will get infected and filled with pus, which then will lubricate the metal allowing you to remove it from the wound.

Depends on what you actually need it for and how good of a sculpture you are.

You could carve the limbs and torso out of wood and join them together with thick wire joint that could hold their form.

You could use a polymer or wax clay that retains its elasticity if you need it to be very detailed. Something like Cx5 if a good material and relatively cheap/reusable. Or you could make your own wax.

You could get a off the shelf action figure and fiddle with that.

Again it depends on your skill and needs. If you want more specific answers you are going to need to give us more information.
