I want to use a free public WIFI at home the nearest free wifi doesn't reach my house, is there some kinda antenna i can install at home to pick up wifi over a long range so my phone/laptop can connect to them, the range im looking for is about quarter of a mile
would largely depend on the geography

if you have a clear line of sight, it is possible
you can try a yagi antenna that can connect to a usb wifi adapter: https://www.amazon.com/Yagi-WiFi-Antenna-2-4GHz-15dBi/dp/B008Z4DNFC
or one like this: https://www.amazon.com/Alfa-Waterproof-Outdoor-wireless-Integrated/dp/B003ILWRLI

you could try a wifi extender/repeater....it would probably be best if you both had one
if the router providing the wifi has removable antennas, you could also try replacing them with a directional antenna (N connection), pointing it in your direction, then you using a 2nd antenna pointing towards the router

this is a very slow board, your thread will be here for several weeks, just relax and wait for answers, you don't need to bump it every 20 minutes
You can use a old mini satellite dish (direct tv/dish) or a Wok and make an wifi dish out of it, but its only good when pointing to wifi source and how good of a wifi adapter you are using. But you also have other stuff in play such as trees, buildings, landscape (hills and shit).

>#$%$^NO CARRIER
Here is what I would like to have one day.
It says at the bottom that it was able to see a wifi in 2mile range. I hope you could make the same for you!
If you decide to do so, please post pics and tests:)

There's wimax but I really don't know enough about it.
You can get wimax antennas which might do the job. They're directional mind you.

Dude these things are literally $9

Grill parabolas are still better though.
If you don't have a clear view of the place you want to get wifi from, even a large antenna won't help
Finally something I'm a expert at. I used to "borrow" Internet for over a year. You'll need one parabolic antenna. A pole to attach it to. A ddwrt compatible router (I used a link system wrt54g) and a coax cable to connect the router to the antenna
Here's the antenna https://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16833997212&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-Mobile&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-Mobile-_-pla-_-Network+-+Network+Antennas-_-N82E16833997212&gclid=CL2ngrXbvtACFZNZhgodMBsPiw&gclsrc=aw.ds
Set the router as a repeater so you can enjoy wifi in your own home which ironically you can set a password to protect your...stolen internet.

That's supposed to say linksys wrt54g. I'm typing on my phone
anyone know how to crack wpa2 keys? Are they uncrackable?
(OP) Thankyou anons. i am the neighbour of the guy that needed this information. i hope this information has helped others too. i see him Monday and update
