Recycle thread.

Working on a shredder and log splitter press to more efficiently make aluminum ingots and pressed paper/cardboard/leaf/woodchip logs.

Also turned a bunch of wheel weights and shitters pipe lead fittings as well as beerror cans into equally useless metal dicks.

oh thats interesting. how the shredder work? i should be very usefull to make compost and other things

I'm currently in a relationship with the first girl that actually makes me happy and is like me in a long list of failures. But that part isn't important, what is important is that Christmas is coming up, and I wanted to get her an awesome unique gift. Neither of us have a ton of money but we share a big passion for space, and so I ordered a necklace with thing made out of meteorite (pic related).

Is it possible to engrave this material? With lasers I think it has to be homogeneous, but cnc or a dremel tool seems risky in the event of shattering.

What would you guys recommend?

just want to point this out, last time I checked meteors were worth more than their weight in gold.

that aside, if the meteor is made of metal, then its safer, if stone, possibly not, look into local engravers and see if you can take out short term insurance on it.
>>
That's not a meteorite op, that's a small piece of pattern welded steel. It's most likely a bit of scrap someone decided to turn into a necklace. It's not worth anywhere close to $110

Hey /diy/, been clearing out a house for a family friend recently and discovered this.

It's obviously a thermometer, but it's got small grey metal balls at the bottom of it, covered over with a red substance- looks like wax?

The scale is also strange- graduations of 10 degrees all the way from 170 at the bottom to 00 at the top, then right at the very top jumping (in the same length of a normal 10 degree graduation) to 990 and to 980?

I've never seen a thermometer like this and wondered whether you guys know what it is and what it's use would be. It reads "S.G 60°F" upon it.

that looks like a hydrometer, used to measure specific gravity of liquids.

they use them for all sorts of things, like checking the sugar content in maple syrup.
>>
>>1090615
I think he is right. If I had to guess, it is or was used to find the alcohol proof in a barrel of whiskey, wine, or some other drink
>>
>>1090612

Yes it's a hydrometer. S.G. = specific gravity.

Why is pic related so expensive?
I don't know much about EMG,but if it's essentially just measuring the potential difference between two (expensive) electrodes, what's the big deal?
Also, this seems to be the only muscle sensor kit out on the market, why?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The hard part is the signal being just at a very low level and you don't want a bias due to your electrodes.

Have a look at OpenEEG if you want to know what such circuits look like.

PS: Evaluation Kits are always overpriced, if you buy them as a company you usually don't give a shit how many bucks you spent on your tools.

>Why is pic related so expensive
>Also, this seems to be the only kit out on the market
I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about
but it seems like you have already answered your own question.
>>
>>1090560
>(expensive) electrodes
Because the primary market for those electrodes are the health care professionals. They're fine with electrodes costing more than $0.01.
>the only muscle sensor kit out on the market, why?
Because there's no enough interest? Because guys who want to build those things rather design their own shit?

Hello, i got a night vision camera that works on 3x cr123a's but since these batteries wont last long i want to use an external battery or powerbank, now any tips on doing that? so i'll probably need 9volts or am i wrong?

>so i'll probably need 9volts or am i wrong?
probably, but it could be 3 or 3 and 6
>>
>>1090414
9v battery won't last any longer.
MAh rating is what matters.
Think of volts has octane and mAh as fuel tank size.
You're running on a 5 gallon tank, you need a 30 gallon tank.
You need 6x D-cells in series, since 123's are 3v and D-cells are 1.5 (nicad anyways, some rechargables are 1.2v)
Better yet would be a 6x2 of D-cells.
>>
>>1090414
You need to find what voltage it normally requires then buy a power bank that outputs the EXACT voltage. no more and no less.

too much voltages may fry, or not enough volts and the device will not function normally.

You want more MaH not voltage.

Hey i'm trying to wire two voltmeters to an on off switch, both monitoring one of each in an automotive dual battery system.

This basic diagram diagram shows what i want but i'm new to electrical systems, both batteries are linked via a voltage sensitive relay and this panel sits in the dashboard.

what switch would i be looking for circled in green? what configuration do i need?
18 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
OP HERE this voltmeter panel is something i've made myself also out of two separate meters and the switch is all i need to buy, just need help knowing what the best way to go is
>>
>>1090234
Unless your batteries are on 2 separate systems both your volt meters are just going to read the highest voltage battery
>>
So even if i run a wire from each battery to some sort of switch, once they hit the switch all voltage merges? there is no way to separate the voltages again once switched?

hey, quick question.
I have this situation: there is a mains water pipe, it is an old pipe, and I am planning to bury it under plaster board, etc. On it I see a small corrosion center and currently there is no possibility to change the pipe into plastic one.
Being paranoid of a leak this is what I am thinking - to take a piece of fiberglass, use some polyester resin and wrap around the area that concerns me. The question is if a hole would develop in a pipe, would this fiberglass infused with epoxy hold up? The pipe might have a pressure of up to 5 bar (72 psi), it's diameter is around 25mm (1 inch).
What do you think?

It is an apartment building, it is a real pain in the as to shut down water, etc.
The main question is would this work?
I have a suspicion it would be plenty strong. But maybe there are some secrets I don't know. I know this is a shitty solution.

Gonna make my own wallet cus why the hell not.

What features should I include?

Pic related is what I have so far.

>Tall enough to hold receipts/lotto tickets without folding them
>Divider in the cash pocket
>Card pocket on the outside
>Dual ID windows
>Pocket clip

I got some "duck cloth" that is just really havily woven cotton that I think will work nicely.

Thoughts?

What are your experiences with this? Every professional I know has disability insurance, but how does it work when you have a job that is actually dangerous? I'm willing to bet that it is very expensive, if you can even get insured at all.

After couple injuries at work place and home my boss bought me an insurance that begins when i step over my doorstep :D doesnt matter if im at work or doing fun things :D

I do building maintenance. The company I work for pays for everything.

>health insurance
>life insurance
>accidental death and disability
>dental
>vision
>and a couple more I can't think of

In all it's about 13k of benifits.

From what I understand if you get hurt they pay for medical costs and a monthly allowance to live on.
i don't want to find out
>>
>>1088621
Any decent place you work that has you doing dangerous stuff will pay for that stuff out of your benefits package. If they aren't then you shouldn't be working for them.
