Soup /ck/,
What's the kindest gentlest way to let someone who thinks they're a great cook know that they suck? As in their fried chicken is still bloody, and their cheesecake is lumpy and burnt (and those are their 'specialties'), but you still enjoy their company and would like to keep it.
If you sucked at cooking how would you want someone to tell you?
tell them they're a fucking shitty ass cook and their food is garbage
what kind of friends can't toss insults at each other get drunk hit each other in the mouth shake hands and cuddle after

I kind of like eating japanese curry from time to time (not that original, Indian stuff is worse - it's just too spicy and watery for me) - S&B stuff, Kokumaro and so on is pretty tasty. However, also expensive, especially since I cannot get it locally and - I suspect - not as good as real, freshly mixed stuff would be.
Thus, I plan to make it the proper way, from scratch. While I roughly know what spices/ingredients go into this, the ratios and proper preparation is a bit of an unknown.
Is any anon knowledgeable enough to drop a recipe for simple curry powder/roux that will allow me to make something relatively similar to above-mentioned brands?
>>8170440
>not as good as real, freshly mixed stuff would be
i lived in japan for 2 years and most japanese people use the box stuff as well. youre not missing anything.
stick with the boxed cury.
>>8170479
Glad to know that, though it still leaves the issues of price and availability of the boxed stuff here (former heavily inflated, latter seriously tricky).

so I've got quite a load of swai fillets and was looking for ideas. usually I fry them up in melted butter and such but I was curious if anyone had any good recipes that are a bit more interesting
>>8170426
Swai are Vietnamese catfish, right?
Have you fried them up with a cornmeal breading like American catfish?
I think those are tilapia fillets in your pic. I dredge pretty much all whitefish fillets, swai and tilapia included, in chickpea flour then chickpea flour batter and deep-fry until brown and delicious.
I also like to use them to make fish chowder. Though I prefer firmer white-fleshed fish, really, swai works fine enough.

not op but this is what i do. delicious with some hot sauce in a taco w cilantro and onions and stuff
New griddle, /ck/! What should I make?
Already got zucchini.
Mixed some cold mashed potatoes with an egg & salt & pepper... Thinking about flour...
Decided against flour. We'll see how it goes.
I'm not loving how the pictures are rotating: wtf?
What are some good weeknight meals for two?
What difference does it make whether it's a weeknight or not?
>>8170408
Weeknight meal generally means quick and basic, as in something you can make right after work.
Stir fry. Easy to make quickly. Some chicken cubes and mix in the sauce and veggies (which you can pre-chop, if that is even necessary). Takes about 15 minutes, prep and all.
How the hell does anybody like avocado?

>How the hell does anybody like avocado?
I like it mushed up on toast with eggs and lots of pepper, that's how
>>8170366
how can anyone not? it's just butter in plant form
>>8170366
Nobody apart from Californians do.
Avocados are a meme.
Just got back from a 10 hour class for work. I am now a Catering Coordinator for Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews.
Woot wooot WOOOOOOT!!!!
Our Franchise will be rolling out a Catering service soon and I'm going to be one of my store's two coordinators. which means I'll be verifying orders, helping get them ready, managing delivery drivers (We're working on a better name than that since they do much more than drive) Deliverying orders myself.and learning operations work that goes with the catering job. (Par levels for supplies and upkeeping the vehicals when our store finally gets one)
>>8170334
I've always seen the commercials, but have never seen a red robin. I also don't live in some side of the highway town where I fuck my 3rd cousin at the local Friday night football game.
So where are you from anon?
>>8170334
>catered burgers and fries
gross
>>8170341
A state, I daresay, that is definitely red, and the men have very, very, long beards.
I just realized I can make rice in my microwave and ate two whole bowls of it with only sojasauce.
What can I add to rice that would make it better? I think that so much sodium is bad for blood circulation or shit like that.
The cheaper the better, and no nationalized products pls.
>>8170304
I just put salt and msg on mine
>>8170311
Well, I try to limit my salt intake. And what is msg? Mayonnaise?
>>8170327
You can find MSG labeled as Accent in places like Kroger or QFC and apparently Walmart
How do you make a better steak sauce than A1?
take good BBQ sauce
call it steak sauce
>>8170242
Ketchup.
>>8170242
Sauté shallots and garlic in butter. Add mushrooms. Season.
Add glasses of red wine.
Reduce.
Congratulations you have made a god tier sauce for steak.
>be thin
>eat 7 times a day
>go to work for 10 hours
>have proper lunch
>still need ideas for 2 meals/day that can be prepared in the morning in 10 mins
>bored with sandwich
Oats
Quesadillas
Or my personal favourite, a traditional Turkish dish called menemen, which consists of egg, tomato and a bit of pepper
Look it up
Tfw I typed about 3 pages for you and it got erased.

Make breakfast burrito filling in a large batch one evening. Then on following days just put some in a tortilla, microwave, and bam.
Dinner, /ck.

Not that carnist trash
Last night I tried making pepper jack cheese stuffed hamburgers for the first time. Turned out ok, but not great.
>>8170186
OP here. What's carnist trash?
Ontario, Canada resident here.
I wish there were Publix and Aldi where I live.
Sobeys is overpriced yet half the vegetable section is wilted. Loblaws is also rather expensive and anything pre-made there is sub-par. Food Basics is okay but selection is limited and they don't sell sandwiches or deli meat. Bulk Barn is actually good, but they only sell bulk ingredients, and recently have become too heavy on candies and chocolates.
Toronto? Windsor? Both those places have places like Freshco and bulk barn.
>>8170188
Waterloo (West)
There are no Freshcos.
Bulk Barn is good, but obviously, they only carry bulk ingredients and no meat section.
>>8170183
You fly to South Florida in the winter with your family? I see a lot of Canadians in the Hollywood area. How did you get exposed to Publix and Aldi?
what's this red powder?

I've had this package of pork sausage in my fridge for two weeks. It has maybe a tiiiiiny hint of some kind of smell according to my wife. To me it just smells like cold meat.
You guys think its probably still good to eat?
Realistically, How long does meat stay good for. This pork has all types of preservatives in it.
I mean. When I say edible, I mean won't actually get you sick or do all that much to your stomach. I've eaten ground beef that smeller questionable but ended up just fine, I'm sure we all have.
>>8170090
Eat it up you pussy
>>8170090
>2 weeks
that's definitely pushing it
>>8170090
There are so many preservatives in that store sausage crap it would probably last indefinitely in the refrigerator. Just make sure you give it a good long cooking.
Locally sourced heavy cream in stand mixer for 12 minutes and I've got butter and buttermilk. Really different - almost like a soft cheese.
>>8170046
did you strain and press it?
>>8170050
I rinsed in really cold water, put it in a quart freezer bag and flattened it out.
Are you going to put it in your coffee
