This might sound like an overly naive question but...

... What exactly is it that FAT (oils, meat fat, dairy products etc) adds to food?

It's well known that fattiness equals tastiness. But if you eat fat on its own it tastes absolutely disgusting. It's like it makes other stuff taste good while being bland and slimy on its own.

So tell me /ck/,

Why does fat make stuff taste good?

>Why does fat make stuff taste good?
Calories are valuable in the wild
Fat is extremely calorie dense
Humans are wired to like fatty foods for this reason
>>
generally it adds flavor but i think people rely too much on it

most foods that people generally put butter on like popcorn and vegetables taste fine with salt only and would not taste good at all with unsalted butter

i've found that replacing salted butter with just salt is a great way to cut calories without compromising taste

that being said fatty meats like a well marbled steak or bbq duck is god tier
>>
You guys are fucking retarded. A ton of flavor compounds are fat soluble, a dish with a lot of ingredients and fat will have a lot of depth of flavor. And you can't brown a steak with water, can you? This board used to be good and informative

what is the bare minimum that one could eat and still have said to have had a "meal"?

Recently was talking to a friend and brought up how I enjoy the taste of mustard plain, which I think is weird. She then said when she was younger she liked to make a "bloody sandwich" which was just 2 pieces of bread with ketchup inside.

What's the grossest thing that you oddly enjoy

I like mustard plain as well, particularly if it's a good dijon or honey mustard.

I don't eat it in large volumes though, I'll just squirt like half a teaspoon on my hand every now and then and lick it off.
>>

probably chicken gizzards. when I was dieting however I used to use mustard as dipping sauce for my plain chicken breast.

I put my hat in the ring for mustard due to its versatility, tang, and healthiness.

grew up addicted to bbq sauce, and love almost any variation on it. Hot sauce is a close contender but pure flavour wins

how does one do that?

I am pretty sure at some point you have to put the cookie in the oven. Unbaked cookie dough with cocoa powder and white chocolate chip is going to taste like shit.

I've never even made a cookie. Explain to me like a child. The amount of time required to bake it will be good knowledge.

Baking soda, eggs, butter, vanilla, flour. Its the most basic shit possible. Literally google chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Ok /ck/, lets post food combinations that everyone should try

I'll start - Mix King Oscar sardines in olive oil with liberal amounts of hot sauce. Eat it right out of the can. This might also help those who aren't fond of sardines. Healthy snack options.

Optional: After that you crush up pretzels, mix them into the left over olive oil/hot sauce mix, and enjoy. Now I'm hungry.

What does any of that have to do with the packaging?

Now I'm not one of these beer elitists, but I had a Coors Light recently and I really do have to wonder what the appeal is. Is it just because it's cheap?
>>
I've bought coors light many many times and pay zero attention to the blue mountain shit.

Not much to say, really. Make your own stock, boil noodles, add your fixins (green onion, boiled egg, spicy chili crisp, sesame seed, whateverthafuck), and enjoy.

Good, simple ingredients.

Anon...sodium bicarbonate is not the same as sodium hydroxide.

hey cu/ck/s hwo do you get rid of a well entrenched fruit fly infestation?

I've tried fly paper, wine traps, vinegar traps, boiling water down the drain, cleaning out food, you name it. I can't seem to find where they're breeding.

I replace the fly paper every 2 days and every day there are more flys just sitting on my wall mocking me.

Please send help

Get. Everything. Out.

All beer cans, all food, make sure your damn windows and doors aren't open (or at least are screened. If it's particularly bad, get a shop vac and start going to town with the hose attachment.

After the initial clean and kill, you make traps. Small bowls, a little red wine, saran wrap over the top, and poke some holes in it. They'll get it but won't be able to fly out.

Be sanitary for at least one week so that the only option they have is to fly into the traps. Then don't be that disgusting again.

I mean, I know you're an alcoholic, but dump the dredges down the drain and keep your recycling bin in the garage or basement, because spiders are your friends.
>>
>>8173790
If your place is already clean, then it might not be fruit flies but fungus gnats; they feed off of the fungus that can grow in any potted plants you might have in your home. There are various treatments you can apply to the soil to kill the fungus and fly larvae, or prevent them.

I used a food processor to make a milkshake and it worked fucking fine. Multiple people tried to stop me from even trying, it was bewildering.

You people, the generation of the unitasker, the apple corer and omelet iron, the age of foam on sharp table corners, of "Umm these brownies don't have GLUTEN in them do they?" would have a seizure if given legos without an instruction manual.
>>
>>8173643
Jokes on you, all my Legos were by brother's hand me downs so I never got the instructions. I did build a pretty awesome half racecar half Millennium Falconhybrid when I was 11 though

The Cruset have drip nipples. the drip nipples are key for sauce production.

>>8173612
Isn't it Staub that has them? I know mine does. I was under the impression that the LeCruset have smooth lids.
>>
>>8173623

Really? We need an abundance of nipples! Staub has more nipples?
