So with my new cast iron I've been able to put some pretty nice crusts on my steak lately. But I find that my rare steaks are pretty gelatinous on the inside though they do taste good.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong. Maybe I should let the steaks rest after cooking for a little longer?
>>8234231
Are you saying it's raw in the center? Yeah, cook it longer if you don't want that obviously.
If it's gelatinous you're probably cooking it closer to blue than rare. Leave it on for an extra 15-30 seconds on each side and let it rest for about 2 minutes.

Is this the best brand of coffee in its price range ($7 for 12 oz)?
Maybe it's that I've just started using whole beans, but I've tried the hazelnut (I know it's pleb, but it was on sale and I love hazelnut coffee in the early morning) and picked up some Guatemalan Atiguan today that I found to be really good.
Private Selection has more specialty-type stuff like Ethiopian and Sumatra, while other brands offered in my store just seem to offer different roast levels or maybe one or two blends.
Some of PS's stuff is pre-ground only, though. Can anyone tell me how it compares to their whole bean?
Its good enough that I keep a bag around if I run out of the good stuff.
Happy Mug isn't much more expensive though and its much higher in quality.

I'll try some of that when my current stock runs out; the El Salvador sounds really good.
I bought the biggest can of psst value coffee from kroger one time and it honestly wasnt bad, super generic but I drank it all eventually
Today my fiancee and I made a small army of Nutter Butter ghosts. Do you guys make Halloween-themed treats and snacks, or do you just go out and buy candy?
>>8234088
neither, fattie.
>>8234093
me too, thanks
>>8234088
I always consider making something myself to give out on Halloween, but I feel like parents would rather their kids come back with familiar packaged candies rather than some mystery shit some stranger made that could have poison in it for all they know.
I do always try to be one of the best houses though. Butterfingers, twix, 100 grand, white and dark kitkats, and candy-apple milkyways are in the bucket this year.
Last night I went out to dinner with a friend I hadn't seen in about 6 months. We had a fantastic dinner and the service was excellent, the waitress being an attractive woman who was hard-working and professional.
We finished our meal and she came out with some samples of desserts: pumpkin pie, a chocolate cake, cheesecake, and some other things. I declined because I was full and what did my friend say?
"Do you actually make them here?"
She was flustered and started stumbling her words and eventually said, "No, but they are baked here". We were both MORTIFIED.
My friend said, "in that case, no thanks". Even though I declined, I decided to get a slice of pumpkin pie to make up for his foe paw. It was pretty decent and I ended up leaving a 50% tip and wrote, "So sorry for my friend, hope this makes up for it" and wrote down my phone number in case she wants to talk about it or thank me or whatever.
Anyway, I chastised my friend and was completely embarrassed and that is the LAST dinner I will go on with him.
Anyway, I still feel really good about my response and how I handled it. I turned what could have been a terrible night for this young waitress into a positive experience.
What are acts of kindness you have you have done at a restaurant?

What is your favourite brand of instant ramen?
For me it is the Acecook Mi Kim Chi, the best fast food sandwich.
Indomie, particularly the spicy flavor.
Second favorite is this brand. Saw it for the first time at an Asian market a few weeks ago. tried the onion sate and roasted duck flavors. They were both great but the roasted duck was easily one of the best instant noodles I've had.
I stick to Indomie's variety pack, since I couldn't find anything better online under the $1 per serving line.
Obviously you get more options at an Asian food store, but I'm too nervous to go.

I love the ramen rater, he is truly an authority on the art of instant ramen. I often use him for recommendations.

From which origin (Africa, South America, or Asia/Oceania) do the best tasting chocolate comes from?
Can anyone here distinguish the way chocolate tastes like based on their origin and input their two cents why they like each?
my ass
I didn't know playboy did scat
I'm partial to the St-Domingue chocolate. It's very floral and assertive, so it's great when making chocolate based desserts.
If i want something more neutral (because i want other flavors to shine) I tend to go for Tanzania or Venezuela.
What does unicorn taste like? My parents say we had it once, and I liked it. It was a long time ago, I can't remember anything.
I never see it in the store either. Its a funny name.

Banquet chicken patties on white bread with a flick of pickle juice. Delish.
Why not just slap some pickles onto that sandwich too? ...or are you out of pickles?

Out of pickles, save the juice for this.
