Anyone here have any recommendations for rum?
I need a good rum to pair with Montecristo no.2 cigars for a bachelor party.
And not sure where to start. The man of the hour is partial to spiced rum but any rum should do really.

Captain Morgan's Private Stock.
Carbonara tonight. An old chef friend told me to add mascarpone at the final stages of cooking.
Anyone got any other good additions to make?
I usually just use
- Half a white onion (chopped and diced)
- Three cloves of garlic (chopped)
- One medium egg
- Quarter pint of milk
- Few grams of Parmesan
- 50g Pancetta
- Dried parsley
- Spaghetti
- Salt and pepper (obviously)
use a duck egg
Italian tears.
Absolutely essential for good flavour: remove onion, remove parsley, reduce garlic to one clove, reduce milk to a splash
Optional: remove garlic entirely, remove milk entirely, remove mascarpone, add knob of butter, add sautéed mushrooms, drizzle olive oil
What is the best way to cook a hot dog?
Fried, grilled, microwaved, boiled...?
I've always fried them but I want to try boiling them, how many minutes should it take for the best texture?
>>8229850
If you are using the traditional Frankfurters, then boiling is the way to prepare them, they only need about 10 mins in boiling/simmering water to heat them through.
>>8229857
>10 mins
They need a couple of minutes at the most.
Cut in half with just a flap keeping them together and fried open side down on a skillet

New York Strip responds well to a reverse sear. Google it.
I hope you have a cast iron pan, anon.
Who here woks?
My sister gave this to me a couple of years ago because she "didn't know how to use it".
I use it for stir fry, and it's the best popcorn maker in the world.
Show me your wok, anon-son...
i usually drive because my job is extremely physical but i will sometimes wok to the local shops or to the station if im catching a train.
What's an easy, cost effective way your average person can season a wok outdoors?

based on the picture i don't think you "know how to use it" and that is not stir fry just oil-coated shit
Hello ck.I wondered what was the big deal with peanut butter jelly sandwiches,so I tried my first one today.

fatty nut vs sweet concentrated fruit. Better alternatives are cashew/dates, macadamia/prunes, and brazil nuts/figs.
I have a couple of these things.
What can I do to improve them?
>>8229452
Make a pie, bake them, chop up and put in salad.
Tons of things you can do.
Aw shucks sugar cube, there's about a million things y'all could do with an apple! Apple fritters, apple pie, apple crumble, apple turnover, apple danish, apple butter, apple cider, apple crisp....or, ya just eat 'em!
>>8229456
But then they are just an ingredient.
How do you make the best apple?
My harddrive died and took a good chunk of the recipes I collected from here with it. Post your favorite recipes!

Now if only the spics that manufactured the bottle/jar thing didn't do a shitty job with the lid. Every time I open it shit spills out.

Sup /ck/, was gonna post this in the fml thread but it would take up quite a few posts so it gets its own thread. Tonight I decided to fry up some tater chips from scratch, as well as cook up a philly cheese steak sammich. Please be advised that I am not making authentic philly cheese steak because I don't eat cheese from a can, nor are my authentic tater chips actually authentic, so do not shit on me too much. I will probably skip a few steps, but know that I am making the chips based on this serious eats recipe:
http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2010/09/print/extra-crunchy-potato-chips.html
I am making the philly based on pretty much no recipe, taking a few liberties as well.
Let's rock.
>>8229211
Now, the first thing you wanna do is wash off your taters and get out the old knuckle slicing apparatus. Having a few drinks beforehand takes the edge off, but if you're an amateur you can always have your first drink of the night right now. I'm having my third Wild Turkey 101 on rocks.
Put the 3mm plate on the mandolin and have at it. Nothing bad has ever occured when using one of these while drinking, I'm sure.
>>8229222
Be sure to have a bowl of cold water at the ready for your tater slices. In fact, run cold water into the bowl. Running water and soaking the taters removes starch which is important to the overall tater chip in the end.
>>8229230
Skipped a few steps here:
-Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil with 2 tablespoons of distilled white vinegar.
-Dump in your tater slices and boil them for 3 minutes, then remove them and set on paper towels to dry.
Always loved these little neat and orderly lunchboxes shown in slice of life animes. Any of you lads actually do something similar? Not necessarily with Japanese food, but in the same style as opposed to just packing some sandwiches, fruits etc. Especially interested in lunchbox recipes('layouts').
>>8229170
it's called bento
>>8229174
this and I'm pretty sure it doesnt count unless you have your "wifu" or whatever, make it for you.
But hey, you can make it yourself and bring it to, lol, "work" and say your girl made it for you. But seriously OP, why go to all the trouble in the kitchen making that just to bring it down to your basement.
...I hate that /ck/ has become food /b/
>>8229282
>getting this butthurt over a fucking bento box
So I'm venturing through unknown ground here and could use a little input.
My neighbor shot a deer and has offered me some of the meat to cook in my smoker. Only problem is the smoker was a gift and I haven't used it yet and I've never worked with venison.
I've eaten and enjoyed venison before but never smoked and I've heard venison is a real bitch to smoke right. I've heard you need to brine it and I've heard to cram it full of bacon but I'd like to keep the deer meat as simple as I can to preserve the venison flavor.
Does anyone have any input on this particular situation?
>>8228976
Just toss it in with some ketchup
>>8229001
thanks for the suggestion friend, but I may wait for some more recipe ideas.
>>8228976
Not a good meat for smoking.
So, /ck/, today I took your advice and tried a McChicken. It wasn't very good. It was pretty bland and lacked the fast food taste that you want from McDonald's. Good think I got the 2 for $2.50 with a mcdouble or I would've been pissed.
