just made barbecue sauce out of gummi candy.
https://youtu.be/yXfENNm22js
added ketchup, apple cider vinegar, hot sauce, and TJs 21 seasoning.
it tasted like a bbq from a fast food chain, dead on.
Wonder if candy worms would work

>it tasted like a bbq from a fast food chain, dead on.
Why would that be surprising? Generic BBQ sauce is sugar, vinegar, and tomato. The gummies have the sugar and they added the vinegar and tomato. Of course it would work.
what about sour gummy candy
> Tried sous vide for the first time
> Steaks were perfectly rare
What do you think /ck/?
I bet that would make a nice dildo.
>>8479542
Sous vide is great. I just don't see why people feel the need to buy crazy expensive appliances to do it when there are so many cheap and easy DIY options for it.
>>8479542
I like cooking steak the old fashioned way--i kind of like the gradient personally.
IMO the best application for sous vide are: lean cuts that easily dry out (pork tenderloin/elk/chicken breast) > tough cuts over 48 hours to tenderize (short rib) > tough cuts to replicate braise (pork shoulder/brisket) > eggs > steaks > vegetables.
Hello cooking board! /cgl/ here. Hubby asked me to cook him and his friends a great big medieval feast! Any suggestions?

Why are sweet potatoes the most amazing tasting food to ever exist?
Why is it they taste 110/10 with Brown Sugar?
I dunno man, but I love them. So cheap where I live. I always steam a few during the week
>brown sugar
They are great with salsa, cheese, egg or even just mince.
Which buffet is a better value: Indian buffet, or Chinese buffet?
Whichever you eat more of, I guess. It's more of a numbers thing with buffets, either way you're getting meat and spices and everything that a medieval peasant dreams of.
>>8479222
Whatever costs less.
>>8479222
If you stick to the higher value protein and avoid the starch, chinese every time.
Chinese is quick cooked, so needs to be better quality like king prawn and better chicken and beef cuts.
Indian curries are traditionally stewed for hours to make cheap cuts palatable.
>pepperoni is for normalfags
>cheese is for beta numale cucks
>combo is for true patricians
Prove me wrong.
What in the nine hells is "combo"
Sounds like flyover bullshit.
>>8479181
Patricians eat pizza not cheese and tomato bread.
>american """"""""pizza"""""""""
lol
Are Bertolli's /ck/ approved?

Can a wok go in the oven?
If so, what kind of metal am I gonna need? I know for certain not to use non-stick.
What about the handle? Can it withstand oven temperatures?
Pic related is the one I'm thinking of getting : http://www.wilko.com/woks/long-handled-wok-black-35cm/invt/0318402
>>8477886
Yes, you're in luck. That one in particular can withstand temperatures up to 250 degrees Celsius. So you're good to go.
>>8477886
what's the point? woks are for quick flame heating, not sustained convection
>>8477933
For curry/biriani making purposes as well as conventional frying
Something not too often talked about here but should warrant at least a little conversation. Be it fine china or otherwise aesthetic plateware, post what you have, what you're looking for, or just some shit you think looks really nice or awesome.
I'm looking to get my hands on some good wooden bowls that can handle liquids. Taking recommendations or personal experience.
Corelle for life desu.
Whats the advantage of wooden bowls?
>>8477475
Purely aesthetic in my case. Perhaps a little natural tactile feel which I find nice too. I'm partial to rustic living in general and they give a sense of rugged living.
I don't own any wooden bowls but I fucking love them. handmade ceramics too.
for every day though, I am more into corelle and BIA.
Saw this at my local walmart
Thought it might be a good way to cut calories since I eat spaghetti at least once a week
How do vegetable substitutes for bread compare when using spaghetti sauce?
What are the preferred vegetables to use in this case?
Just use spaghetti squash

Any kind of starchy vegetable works like eggplant, zucchini, squash, carrot, etc.

The sauce on the dubbadawn here tastes like shit.
The bacon is cheap and disgusting, like it's from old sows.
And that cheese?
No.
But maybe the Japs have higher standards (they usually do).
/ck/, I wanna make sushi. Has anyone around here made sushi before with any pointers, tips or otherwise delicious sauce/filling suggestions?
Also, I live in the Midwest so I'm more or less limited to ordering flash frozen fish for my sushi. How much does this affect the flavor?

Looking for honest advice from anyone who works in culinary arts. I just turned 23 and up to this point, have had little direction in life. I have dropped out of university twice, and am in a bit of a lull right now. I however, love to cook. It would be awesome to become a chef, but being that I am already 23 and have never been to culinary school, nor have ever worked in a professional kitchen, I feel as if it may be too late for me. Can any of you guys give advice? Is culinary school necessary and what is it like? What is working in a professional kitchen like? Could it be worth it? Or am I just kidding myself.
>>8476132
I work supplying cheese to resteruants. I asked advice from one of my chefs on joining the biz. He said
>Start young, it's back breaking arduous work as you will be dishwashing, chopping and cleaning exclusively on your feet
>Culinary school isn't worth it but community college programs are worth checking out.
>Be hungry, be hard working, and understand margins, waste, and pantry management and you can make it.
>Voluntarily wanting to work in a back breaking environment making 40k a year for the rest of your life for your boss who doesn't give an inkling of a fuck about you

>>8476306
What's wrong with pursuing a life of good honorable labor in a field you are passionate and exemplary at? If you think just because there's somebody up the line making more profit than you that it's not worth it then you are dumb. There is always somebody profiting off you. The boss owes the bank, the bank owes a bigger bank etc.
