Choosing the silly, lighthearted, and generally out of place riverdance tune results in Squall and Riona having a beneficial conversation that leads to a mutual understanding. It may also be the only genuinely subtle and believable advancement of their "relationship" in the entire game.

Choosing the romantic slowdance song which is an instrumentation of the game's lauded love theme results in Squall throwing an emo bitchfit and essentially telling Riona to piss off.

What did they mean by this?

They meant that this is a sloppy, poorly thought-out mess of a "game".

>It may also be the only genuinely subtle and believable advancement of their "relationship" in the entire game.

No, it's not.

In Disc2 after the prison, if you take Rinoa with Squall at the Garden, they'll have PLENTY of times together. All of which only happens if you choose to let her come with Squall and even then it's still optional, but it's there.

But even before that there the dance scene, the time in Timber, and afterwards there is their moment together during the fight between the two Gardens; then her coma and their reunion in space, then rescuing her and their reunion near the orphanage.

The whole point of the game is 'fate'. It's in the name of the game's theme, and it's a goddamn story about time travel and being brought by fate to re-do the things that brought you here to begin with. There is also the entire "every sorceress has a knight" thing, and the way Squall changes when Rinoa becomes a sorceress, in other words fate making him her knight.
The knight/sorceress thing, heavily linked to fate bringing both characters together, is NOT supposed to be a "believeable in real world love story", it's supposed to be a fairy tale.

But even then as far as "believeable in real world" stuff goes, in case you think a fairy tale with sorceresses and knights and fate involved needs that, there is still plenty in what I listed, mainly if you bring her with you in the Garden in Disc2.
>>
>>3772919
See, none of those other moments you listed there make for a believable relationship because it's just Riona throwing herself at Squall until she wears him down and he relents. Indeed, that's an ideal situation to virginal otaku, but a believable relationship it does not make. And this is vitally important because this game was advertised on the fact it was supposedly a grand & epic love-in-war story.

Reminder that there are very retarded point and click autists that don't like Grim Fandango just because of how it controls -- y'know, completely forgetting the brilliant writing, setting, graphics, style, music, etc

These people make me ashamed to be a fan of the same genre

They also randomly seem to hate Myst for some reason. Maybe Myst commercialized the genre in a way that hadn't been seen before, and I assume for an adventure game fan popular=bad

Oh, and they'll act like Telltale Games are bad, even though they solve their tiny little dick problem by removing all the hard puzzles that make their little brains hurt

Telltale games after sam and max ARE bad though

It controls a fuckton better with point and click though.

Glottis is the single most annoying character in any point-and-click adventure game ever made.

One day I was playing this classic game (Quake 2) and at one hot point of the game a lot of enemies (six strongs enemies to be accurate) came to me. So I tried to blast all of them with the BFG 10K and this happens:

The game freezes for 15 seconds when I shooted (look at the message at the upper left corner, "WARNING! msg overflowed for Player)

In that 15 seconds I was amazed because I can move the mouse to see around, but with everything suspended in mid air.

So I take the best screenshot I ever made. Just look at all the details in the capture.

Weird mix between Silent Hill and Resident Evil, and it doesn't seem to know what side to agree with - you even fight a Tyrant like dude that bursts out of a test tube

It's very western in that way, where it clearly doesn't understand why RE and SH were ever popular to begin with (ironically, Capcom and Konami did know why the first AitD was popular), but still tries really hard to ape the concepts.

The lighting system is really neat though and it's a shame they didn't use games engine again.

>>3772791
RE and SH were popular because of comfy exploration and figuring out the route you are meant to take. The rest is just aesthetic and atmosphere.

GOG release of AITD4 is fucking awesome also, very high res backgrounds (4:3 only obviously), but it looks sharp as fuck. Fully customizable gamepad support too. Love that shit.

I dunno, looks so much like a Super Famicom to me.

And the Super Famicom is really great, and according to my info, many third-party developers on the Super Famicom is working with Sony on the PlayStation.

As far as my experience goes, nobody in school had even heard of the playstation. We were too busy talking how fucking amazing Donkey Kong Country was.

Hey all, I recently built a convenient Wii turned emulator box for a friend, and found that only official Nintendo controllers work with the home-brew channel.
These and the 'classic controller' official versions are getting quite hard to find. Are there any other solutions? I managed to wrangle two for each of us but if I wanted more, what are my options?
18 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>3772291
Clearly there isn't another option, you can either.

A. Make do with what you got
B. Suck it up and pay what people are asking online.
C. Swap out the Wii for another emulation box like a Pi or Odroid
>>
>>3772417
I wasn't sure if maybe I was missing something. For single and two player we are set, and four player we can borrow from each other, but it would be nice to have a back up plan.
What a shame. I heard GC controllers work, but those are kind of jank.

We called it DataSmut back then. Being able to jack in and have a harem of blonde babes wired into your techodeck was the best feeling ever. Nothing comes close to the feeling I had with my first cyber sex encounter. Nothing ever will. I'll be a C-junkie for the res of my life.

$5 for 5 minutes of Duke Nukem 3D on one of these things (in stand up mode) in 1996 in a mall at the west coast.

I was impressed at the time but even then I recognized some serious problems with latency and drift that I just assumed would be solved in a few years.

>>
>>3772021
Uh, the game reuses a lot of textures
>>
>>3772021
Low res textures
Midi music
No voice acting (HIYAAA doesn't count)
No pre-rendered video

32 megabytes is a lot of space otherwise.

Does anyone else on /vr/ have trouble deciding what games to get next?
Personally I have an extensive backlog and so with eBay and the like I can find all of them and hunt for reasonable prices. But at the same time I'm never sure whether to buy game A or B, unless it's like Little Sampson for $20.
That's why I like hunting at Goodwill, thrift stores and yard sales, because I kind of just take what I can get, while retro stores and sites just leave me with too many options to choose.
