I just buy anything I find cheap. Which is now well over 1k games. I'm never going to play them all. But I can always sell them to hipsters for a nice profit.

I buy plenty of gen 6-7 games at those places but the only /vr/ console game I've bought this month at "why not" prices was pic related for 99 cents. They're just not there enough to be worth the gas, you gotta be looking for other stuff too.

what I do:
download full romset
delete games you sure aren't going to like (in my case sports or shit like mahjong)
try every game for a few seconds (that is as soon as the gameplay begins)
repeat infinitum

I just get popular games from well known devs
Atm I have so many games I didn't beat yet so I shouldn't cop anything else for a while

For me, the problem isn't picking a game to play, but rather, sticking with the game I chose.

I tend to start a game and something about it reminds me of some other game and I end up switching to that and so on. This happens when I emulate as well.

I call it gaming ADD.

I'm at the tail end of my collecting and I have only a few items I'm looking for. If anything, I go to many retro shops and not find stuff.
You just have to know what you want. Be humbled by the fact that you can't play it all, take a deep breath and go on what I call a game adventure.
1. Begin a game, any game, figure out what you like about it. Did you like it? If yes, continue.
If no, play a different game.
2. Find another game that has what you liked about the first game! Did you like it? If yes, continue.
3. Do a bit of research! Find out if those people made any other games that you may enjoy and with that new found knowledge you can go to these thrift stores and yard sales with a fresh new perspective.

There are no wrong decisions. Enjoy your games.
