You know you're in for some good shit
>>3768134
Don't give me that shit...
True.
I'm actually glad they stopped using the laser intro at 6th gen (and actually the intro during 5th gen wasn't the laser anymore, they tried some "cool three dee" intros at the time).
Not that Konami didn't release good shit later on, but yeah, if you play a game and it has the laser intro, you just know it's good shit and there's no doubt about it.

I feel the same whenever I start a game and see pic related.
Have you played it /vr/?
What a name, amirite?
>>3767343
It's a great game. I prefer the mega drive version because the music is superior and I think the gameplay and level design is a bit better in that version but I generally recommend Der Langrisser to people new to the series because the branching paths and writing make Der Langrisser very interesting.
Langrisser is one of my favourite series overall.
I guess the name "Langrisser" must sound weird to anyone that knows german (kind of a brutal name for a holy sword) but to me (and presumably the developers) it just sounds cool.
>>3767363
I've wanted to play it for a while because I love the character designs. Is the original a good place to start?
I played the Saturn version of 1 & 2 (Langrisser Dramatic Edition) which I think uses the Der Langrisser version of 2.
Does the concept of Recettear only belongs in not retro?
I loved to death this game and I'm looking for more experiences like this one: grind for mats in dungeons to improve your shop/farm/store/whatever or bussiness administration with RPG elements.
I asked in other places and got only moderm games, like Rune Factory for example. Is out there any games likes this one on the retro spectrum? You are the most versed people in the subject I know, so I'm expecting good recs. Thanks in advance.
Supposedly Recettear is an Atelier series ripoff which has games on the Playstation 1 but all of themn are untranslated.

Seconding Atelier, it's a pretty niche genre.
been playin with some playstation emulators
its better than n64 i can admit it

>>3766629
You can't go back, anon. Thinking you can will only drive you into the arms of despair. That MAME cabinet you put together will never recreate the magic of the arcade--the sights and sounds, the friends you made. The past is not for sale; it's gone.
>>3766639
Thats deep
OP, shouldn't you be saving for your kids' college fund at this point in your life?
>tfw you're one of the only people who actually appreciate this game
Why do most people hate it so? It's the only X game with a real amount of challenge, the music is amazing, new sprites all around, 4 armors for X, a much more refined saber and buster for Zero, no more Guns n' Roses references... just come on, what's not to love?
Here's a dirty little secret, megaman has never been a consistently good series. The quality has always been all over the place with bad titles outnumbering the good ones.
>>3766576
Get out, ArrisonChan
>>3766576
The "challenge" comes from bad design decisions and not having most of the team that made the previous games good.
Literally, X6 exists because of Capcom's greed.
I don't think it's a bad game or anything, I actually think it's quite decent despite everything, but out of the 6 first games, I place this one second to last.
just torrented jagged alliance 2
what am I in for?
a video game

i forgot this board even exists. what are you guys playing right now?
Donkey Kong Country on SNES and Legend of Zelda on NES
Dragon Warrior.
I just want to kill Dragon Lord but his fucking castle is made of dicks.
Street Fighter V mostly.
I started Illusion of Gaia too, but haven't played much yet.
So does /vr/ prefer Dracula X to Super Castlevania IV?
Everyone seems to love rondo but hate SC4, but where does that leave Dracula X?
I like all 3IV > Rondo > X
inb4 requisite castlevania thread shitflinging.
People seem to hate on 4 just because it's an easier game and is considered by many to be one of if not the best classicvania. Rondo is great, although the anime style is a bit unfortunate. Many people also seem to be under the impression that CV Dracula X was an attempt at a port of rondo to SNES but really it's just using some of the same resources and building a more linear game very much in the style of the first castlevania. I don't think comparing the games is really fair, since they were approached with completely different design philosophies. Each game has its own merit and to try and lift one up while shitting on all the others is pretty stupid, if you like the series then just enjoy the damn games for what they are. Every castlevania game has its good points that make them worth playing, except maybe castlevania judgement.
tl;dr: play them all.
A better question would be Akumajou Dracula X68000 with or without MIDI?
>>3766107
Dracula X > Bloodlines > Rondo > IV
Anything is better than sotn.
No, this isn't a troll thread. Earthbound is legitimately a shitty game. I'm playing it for the first time right now and can't believe it was memed hard enough to be considered the best game ever made by normalfags.
This game has awful gameplay. Repetitive and boring, all you do is go from identical location to identical location and fight the enemies in a shitty slow battle system.
The battles are crap, you just smash A until you kill one enemy or another but you're being hit for a third of your HP most of the time. And of course you can combat that by grinding but the fact that you are forced to grind on the easy enemies in towns is ridiculous. Any game designed around grinding is bad.
You can barely run from any fight as it takes 5 turns to be able to run, at which point you're almost dead. Oh, and don't forget that 40%-50% of all of your attacks will miss, and that you can only hold 12 items per character, but 4 of those slots are taken up by armor and weapons for each character, and then you're forced to hold things like the Stone, ATM Card and Phone.
Meanwhile the overworld is patrolled by stupidly high spawn rate enemies that all move much faster than you, so they're impossible to avoid to begin with. Add to that the slow speed at which the battles move and the fact that most aspects of the battle text are never explained to you, it makes for a wholly frustrating and tedious experience.
Yeah, I suppose the music is pretty nice, and even though the spritework is NES-tier the colors make it look very nice, but that doesn't save the game from recycling the same 12 or so environments over and over again.
Is this game only famous because of the le quirky story where you fight hippies and play as a dog?
TL;DR, Earthbound is badly designed and based on shitty RNG mechanics that are far too skewed in the game's favor.
>>3766034
>Earthbound sucks because it's too hard
somebody needs to git gud
>>3766034
Sorry that losing makes you feel bad, feeling bad is actually a good thing, can mods plz change the OP's font to Mr Saturns font?
>>3766034
Cool blog. Where can I go to like & subscribe it?
man, the goofy gothic athmosphere in this game is great, do you guys know of any /vr/ games with a similar feel?
>>3765885
Discworlds
DeathSpank
Brutal Legend
not goofy but LoK and Soul Reaver
goofy but not gothic Pandemonium
>>3765885
Maximo on PS2
Ghouls N Ghosts series
Death Jr.
>>3765885
I think Soul Reaver is the closest there is in terms of spooky gothic atmosphere, most notably because of the low view distance obscured with blackish fog.
Would this be considered comically dark? I love when a slig yells "mommy!" before being controlled and then exploding into bloody bits and pieces.
In the bad ending the mudokons pretty much shit on you and watch you die.
>>3765817
This game was really hard.
I couldnt even get past the tutorial
>>3765838
>hard
??? The game is trivially easy, unless you're going for 100%. Just playing through the game is nothing.
So I just received a gift from Japan from my bro, a Fami and SuFami. Came packed with all the original plugs and stuff, but before I test anything out, I'm a bit curious and worried about using the original AC cables. I own both a US NES and SNES, would it be better to just use those? I also read about using a Genesis AC?
>>3765776
NO! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
The Famicom and the Super Famicom use the same plug. Do NOT use an NES or a Genesis adapter in, they fit but it is guaranteed to FRY both of them.
Wait a second if you have the originals then why are you even asking this question?
>>3765789
Waaah, okay I just thought that using Japanese AC adapters would some how mess something up being hooked into a US tv or something The like. Thanks!
>>3765789
What the fuck are you talking about I can use my damn PAL Mega Drive Model 1 PSU with my Super Famicom
Are there ever going to HDMI options for earlier systems?
I ask because I'm tired of using SCART and a bunch of dumbass converters.
>>3765763
Currently, the only consoles with an HDMI option are the HDMI NES and the HDMI GameCube/GCVideo modification.
There are cables made that give consoles like the Genesis it's pure 240p output, but they're component.
I just don't see the point of modding old consoles to play nice with modern displays. Even if you end up eliminating lag the scaling is still going to suck.
Better to stick with the middleman approach if you ask me.
>>3765839
The scaling on the NES is actually pretty amazing looking. Crisp and clear.
