Explain why there's a "Nintendo tax" when products of other companies generally don't suffer such a thing too.

You can, but you won't be awarded the Gold Challenger medallion.

Mario is popular, and the fanbase is vehemently attached to nintendo.

Also, normies love it, they also want to be "in" and hip, so they have to have Mario Party 1-3, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart just so they can be validated when their friends come over twice a year and pop it in.

The one you posted, except the PC DOS version, with an Adlib Gold + surround add-on board.

It's sort of a point n click adventure game, spiced with resource management, that later turns into a not-quite-real-time strategy game. You can also get the ending in multiple ways (either nuke open the Harkonnen palace, or grow shitloads of vegetation around it and it will get abandoned). You can also just go around the globe exploring uncharted parts, to find gear and more importantly to mine on.

It also uses the movie designs, and has incredibly good music.

Dune II was okay, but a bit clunky by todays standards. Dune 2000 was a remake of it IIRC, but still clunky since it was a Red Alert mod. Maybe you can play it with OpenRA, I dunno.

Emperor: Battle for Dune was the zenith of the Dune RTS games though. It had so many great elements, and single player had some nice twists too.

So it's either the first Dune game, or Emperor.

Didn't that version have awkward zoom-ins on the faces of people you talked to which happened seemingly at random? That used to creep me out.

Wizards and Warriors always looked really bland and generic to me. More like a master system game, barely took advantage of any of the NES's graphical capabilities. A minor investment in upgrading the spritework would've made the entire franchise a lot more appealing...

I'm complete shit when it comes to MAME emulation. Why does nothing work? Have tried a single rom on about 8 different builds and it will not work (Metal Slug 6 and MvC2). Anyone have a solid guide, or tips?

You need Atomiswave Bios ROM to emulate that, but I doubt you will be able to run those games. I don't think Mame is capable of emulating Atomiswave games.

How the fuck was this possible?

Think about it, they squeezed a 2-disk PS1 game into a 64MB N64 cart, with extra features no less. That's fucking crazy.

Why didn't they use this technology in other games? They could've potentially saved the N64 with this shit.

Any other games like Wyvern and Euotopia? Graphical MUDs or maybe online multiplayer graphical rogue-likes that are actually popular?

Wyvern is gone...well it's back in app form for apple devices but that doesn't count when you don't buy apple.

Euotopia is still around but nobody plays. I'm frequently the only person on the server. Game is fun but it might as well be single player with no chat. I still play once in a while but it's not the same without others.

Space Station 13, lots of players, tight community, and it's the best game ever made. I don't know if it's considered retro, but the engine it uses is ancient so it's probably /vr/ related. You'll probably find a thread on /vg/ with more information, but the game is basically like this:

>space station
>you are one of the many, many crew members with different jobs
>jobs vary from legit useful jobs from janitor to engineer, but there's also clowns and mimes
>most of the jobs are somehow connected to each other; engineers uphold the station energy/oxygen/etc. chef makes food, doctors heal in case of accidents etc.
>everybody is needed more or less to keep the station going
>enter the traitors, terrorists, cataclysmic cosmic events, demons, crew mates who are just assholes
>try to survive to the end of the round

In some shifts you might just bake pizzas for 45 minutes and uphold a nice little restaurant with your bartender friends, but then some other rounds you might be gathering supplies and try to survive alien infestation.

It's a mess, and it's great. It plays like a multiplayer roguelike with permadeath, but you can be revived if they find your body and the people working in medbay are competent. Some people call it multiplayer Dwarf Fortress, which is probably a pretty accurate description because the learning curve is pretty steep, but that's just part of the charm; you never really know what the fuck is going on, just like in real life.
Just imagine being a scientist, just fooling around with your science equipment, and then suddenly realizing the station is slowly being sucked into a black hole, and then desperately trying to gather up equipment for your survival.

I had a guide when I was a kid, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. Progress is much simpler than classicvania, since you can spam continues if you suck. The light-RPG elements were a pleasant new feature. It was obviously the right direction, considering the later success of Symphony, and the GBA/DS titles. Games that are ahead of their time are always a little rough around the edges.

It's the same shit made by the same people. Grind autistically for 150 hours or you wont be able to get anywhere.
>>
>>3774609
Not much, its pretty straightforward. The game is much more based around plot heroes than randoms, and even though it pushes random units both human and monster on you, you only have 10 spots for them. There's a total of 40 unique and semi-unique heroes, which are basically just random units with unique names.

There's no way to overlevel, and enemies are always either stronger or matched at your level.

Transmuting with Deneb will involve lots of savescumming

Ranged units are OP. Their range is enormous, arced shots are very forgiving, and one or two shots can easily take out any magic user.

Some tips:

If they're an enemy but they're not evil, there's a good chance they're recruitable. Ending the battle with their health critical will usually have them join you. This is when you start smacking them with Rods.

Vyce is an asshole.

Nybeth is a terrible father and husband.

Ravness is not you're waifu

Canopus is your bess friend

>>3774614
>Grind autistically for 150 hours or you wont be able to get anywhere.

The enemies of le main non-optional battles top up at level 30. You don't need to grind and with emulation it's easy to level up your team to level 30 with its training mode. Pleb.
