what are some must see shit that you can't encounter in literally any other country.

things like the everest, the great wall in chine, the great reef barrier or whatever it's called, you know shit like that
>>
Most poor people either save a few thousand up over the course of years and then travel during low season, backpack, staying in hostels, eat local, visit places where the currency exchange rate is favorable, and do all they can to stretch their money.

Alternately, they WWOOF or teach English, which usually means they stay in one particular place much longer, and with money saved go out on a couple vacations to nearby places.

Moving to Toronto in a couple months and looking at condos. To all Torontonians out there, where do you recommend living? East? West? North? Central? Downtown?

My main criteria is wanting to be A. Close to subway. And B. Basically in the socially thriving parts of the city. I'm in my late twenties so I want to be around others my age.

Also, do I need a car? Because I'd rather not bring one. And in your experiences, what are some neighborhoods to generally avoid? Thanks to all for any advice.

HAPPY GROUNDHOGS DAY

It really depends on how much money you have. You can always get a place near UofT it'd be cheaper, close to thriving areas, lots of young people. Houses there are kind of shitty and old in general but it's a nice area.
If you can afford it, near St. Lawrence market is very nice. King west if you're fancy (can get grimy in some parts). Queen street if you're into the hipster thing. Harbourfront area is great, condos by the lake close to the action. I have friends who have bought condos right by the ACC for 350k. That's by the financial district near the CN tower.
More affordable but slightly out of the downtown core is High Park, still bars and pubs there and a subway station plus it's a lot more affordable. Can probably find a one bedroom for 1k/month there.
Liberty village is also kind of out of the way but a ten min drive to the action (full of hipsters with dogs but a nice clean area with affordable condos).
North York is kind of run down but cheaper, has a younger crowd in certain areas (but a lot of sketchy areas as well)

You have to keep in mind getting around Toronto can be kind of annoying unless you like to walk everywhere. The traffic is awful and the subway system is very limited compared to other major cities.
>>
>>1206142
If you're a rich smug childless asshole looking to be around other rich smug childless assholes, the waterfront district is the place for you. If you are a chink or paki looking to be around other minorities, Scarborough is worth checking out. If you're a complete numale cuck, the annex, gay village or Cabbagetown will have other faggot liberals to cavort with. Finally if you're a nigger, northwest Toronto is full of niggers on government housing.

If you're not a piece of shit, consider moving to Barrie or St Catharines. Think about it, anytime you see a video, or hear a story about cringey cucks/feminists/transfags making a public scene, it's always Toronto. It's an expensive hellholle

I can travel almost at the last minute and am open to traveling pretty much anywhere. I am wondering what happens to the trip when someone cancels at the last minute. Does the travel agency or travel insurance company try to fill that spot a the last minute? Is there such a thing as a reseller or list that you can get onto if someone cancels?

I am going to Kiev with a friend in mid April (long story as to why but I have to) we have a total of 11 days we will be gone, and after 5 Kiev he said I can pick where we will spend the next 5 days. Lviv is the obvious choice however I am not fully sold on it. I'd like to visit a country I haven't been to so Russia is out of the question. I've made a list of possible options below.

>Baku
>Tashkent
>Lviv
>Sofia
>Minsk
>Tblisi
>Chișinău

I really like the top two options because I have never visited a Muslim country, however they both require visas (albeit an Evisa with Azjerbajan) and the flight to Tashkent is pretty long. I am mostly interested in historical stuff as well as "cultural tourism".

>which of these options does /trv/ think would be the best.

Depending on your levels of autism, I could take you out for a drink or two in Ljubljana, maybe take a daytrip swimming/hiking or w/e.

Austria and Hungary aren't really Slavic, are you sure you added the right picture?
If you have specific questions, I can help.
Depending when you're going, I may or may not be in the area, I regularly visit ... well, all the bigger cities on that map.

To socialize in Eastern Europe... Very easy. Go to a place where they sell alcohol. That's it. People just strike up conversations with each other all the time, it's easy to make friends. If you don't drink alcohol, it may be very hard.
In Hungary there's the kocsma culture all over the country, and ruin pub/café culture in Budapest. People just hang out all day in there.

Hello everybody.

My best friend and I are planning a trip to Europe, and while we have the basics lined out, I was wanting to get some suggestions on what to do from locals or other travelers who have been to the countries we're going to.

We'll land in England and hang out with some friends of ours before heading out to France, Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands. Any advice would be appreciated, if you have recommendations for food or a warning about tourist scams to watch out for.

Personally, I'm most interested in finding the best vantage points to take photos (the higher the better) as well as any cool architecture, and my friend is looking for historic sites and good drinks.

https://www.routeperfect.com/itineraries/31-day-friends-trip-london-united-kingdom-to-amsterdam-netherlands.html?id=7ac36d67

I've been to England before but otherwise I have not traveled much, I'll post some of my favorite photos from England in the meantime.

Thanks!

So I live in the Netherlands and in from the UK, both where I'm from and where I live have small airports that mainly fly cargo.

In the netherlands it's a 20 minute bike ride from my house and in the UK a 5 minute walk.

So cargo flights that take 55 minutes fly from here to there, so is it possible if I make a special arrangement I may be able to get on board?

tl;dr : can I fly on a short haul cargo flight? If so, how?

Should I just email them real nice?

If you're in a third-world country going to another third-world country with very lax customs laws, you'll probably be fine.
However, anywhere in Europe, that includes the Balkans and Baltics, won't let you anywhere near a cargo aircraft.
This includes small/single cargo airliners all the way to the biggest cargo companies.
Issues faced will be:
> Aviation Security Laws
> ICAO Laws
> National Customs laws
> Diplomatic Clearance
> Insurance Policy

To re-iterate, doing it in Africa and Shithole areas of Asia will be fine. Doing it in Europe, no chance.

When people say they went to the airline desk (the desk passed security usually) and got them to switch their flight from 1 stop to nonstop or on an earlier flight, is this something the airline customer service person usually does for free? Or are these people paying hundreds of dollars in fees to make those itinerary changes?

I would have assumed it costs a lot of money to do that, but I hear about people doing it so often it would be weird if they were actually shelling out $200 to get on a flight 1.5 hours earlier or something.

>>
My online flight itinerary on my airline's website says that I have 20kg of baggage available. The same website in another place that's not the itinerary, the place where you buy additional baggage says that I have 0 kg.
Which one is more credible? Is it normal for cheap airlines to give you check-in baggage when you order through a 3rd party website?

I know that I can just ask my airline, which I did, but they're not responding yet via email. This is my first time flying and I don't know what to do.
>>
>>1205430
Using a desk person is free. They are called "gate agents" and their salary is paid by the airline. You weren't clear if you were wondering about that too. Though bargain airlines might charge you higher fees if you use them versus online booking, such as when you wish to check a bag last minute versus at the curb or prepaying for it online. So, I guess it can be confusing.

There is some prerogative they can give to not charge higher fares if you wish to go on an earlier flight and there are seats, so then they might not charge you for the change. When it's their fault like a delay or cancellation, they might rebook you for free to something different if it eases their load. If they give out too much free stuff they could get in trouble, a type of employee shrinkage, so it's not just your charm that makes things happen or not, but be assured a rude person gets less favor. But for the most part people who make frequent changes without paying fees are actually people who are frequent flyer tier and actually don't pay what coach passengers have to pay for changes, if at all. Loyalty among frequent fliers is highest customer service reasons. When they do their little changes inside the Lounge, you can be assured it's top tier too with their most congenial "yes sir" employee. If you change from one fare code to another, they could charge you a difference in the fare, yes. There is NO charge for asking whatever you want, however. As they say, it doesn't hurt to ask. You should have a frequent flier number attached to your ticket, I'm just saying.
>>
>>1206036
I always see the baggage element as part of the check-in process which happens with the airline website. So, in other words, you are not done paying until check-in, when you decide how many bags you'll be having, or if you require an assigned seat, want some items for speedy TSA or priority boarding, etc.

It's been 7 years so I'm testing my memory a bit. We stayed at Troux Au Biche on the NW side of the island which is more protected than the East side. Its about an hour from the airport just North of Port Louis which is the 'capital'

Port Louis is nothing special and the country as a whole is still very much developing. Have some basic French although as long as you make the effort most people can communicate in English.

Casela Bird Park is a whole day and worthwhile booking a lion / tiger walk, cheetah interaction
7 Coloured Chamarell
Blue Bay is cool down the SW corner
Day trip tours from Grand Baie - take your pick

Hire a driver for a day, they'll also be able to take you to some small seafood joints near Grand Baie that may not look like much but the food is great.

The local beer and rum is really good as well. Overall it's a fantastic country that I'll definitely go back to. Enjoy
>>
Hi OP
I live in neighboring Réunion island and have been to Mauritius 4 times.
To us it's mainly an occasion to enjoy affordable luxury and great service (nonexistent in Réunion).
The post above me is good advice.
In Casela I think an ATV tour of the park is better than a lion's walk. Parc de l'Etoile is nice too.
I advise you to try street food whenever you can.
Airbnb is a good way to find cheap housing. I rented a 120sqm flat with 2 bedrooms and a pool table in the living room, in a condo with pool in Flic en Flac , 3mn walk from the beach, on NYE's week, for 400EUR.
Cure-pipe market is ok, so is the jardin de pamplemousses. You can go to Port Louis if you are in the area, not necessarily worth a visit on its own...
Anything more specific just let me know!

Hey guys, I'm looking to plan the ultimate date for my girlfriend of almost 6 years now, and I need some shy-girl appropriate date spots. Recommend me the best restaurants, tourist destinations, and urban exploration spots in the state (preferably close by to the Fairmont region) that will make for the cutest date imaginable. I'll take whatever recommendations you've got, so long as they're actually good. Among other things, I am thinking stargazing might be a good idea, since the weather has been so fine lately, but I actually have no idea where the best spot for it would be, seeing as I am not a resident of WV. I was also thinking about an aquarium trip, but I do not know what the best nearby aquarium is, either.

>How does /trv/ feel about resort travelers?

A large group of my friends and their wives/gf's went on vacation to the Jamaica. They went to a nice resort, and stayed on said resort all week only venturing out once their whole vacation. They came back explaining to me how great the country was and how "different" Jamaica was compared to the US. Maybe I am just a jaded asshole but I just cant really see any legitimacy to this type of travel. I'm not saying that from the RealTraveler aspect of only staying in hostels and staying off the beaten path, but the simple fact that that literally went to a bubble and stayed there without seeing the country.

Not planning prior to properly. Most main issues can be avoided with proper pre-planning.

>>What is the best way to have the best experience where you are going and to have an ~~authentic~~ experience?

See statement about and research where you are going, most tourist traps can be spotted easily because Tripadvisor or some travel agency is the first hit.

>I see a lot of people complaining that backpackers just stay at hostels or such, I really want to know what is the best way to do the travelling thing.

See all of the above. The best way to travel is the way that you get all your interests done. Backpacking is just a term commonly misused for people who just stay in a hostel on a trip while doing the most normal things that every other tourist does; that's why it is annoying to hear on /trv/.
