Visit Chernobyl and the zone, there are tour companies that take you in a minivan for the day. The reactor has just been covered up but it's still worth visiting imo. I used SoloEast: https://www.tourkiev.com/

Ternopol. but only for a day or two (after that you realize its a shit hole).
there is great nature just outside the city (literal 20 mins walking) there is a lake where you can take a boat to look around.
there is a castel (small one)
decent restaurants.
and some good church architecture.
also it was a very important point during the Operation Barbarossa.

I'm feeling like biking around europe on a bicycle this summer, and have begun doing some basic planning. So, I'm wondering if anyone have done it or similar and have stories/tips to share?

Also, more specifically, how did you solve sleeping space? My initial plan was just to bring my lightweight 1-man tent but I realised that I'm not allowed to just set up camp in forests etc.. Do police care? Should I just keep to city outskirts and I'll be fine? (and maybe hostel when visiting larger cities)

General tips on bike touring are also welcome! It'll be my first.

In Nordic countries you're allowed to set up tent anywhere. In other countries the law varies.

yeah, that's the thing. I'm from Sweden so it didn't occur to me at first, even though I'm aware of it. That's why it'd be useful to get an actual travelers perspective. For example, in Japan you can easily set up your tent even in parks, even though it's illegal. Find a secluded spot and hope that you're lucky. If the police do find you they also won't do anything but wake you up and politely asking you to move.

Last thread's OP:

Let's have a thread where we take one map and colour all regions we live in, and the regions we have visited. The idea is to have just one map, so edit the map from the post above yours. If someone has already coloured your home region green, change it to red. But don't change a red region to a green one.

This thread is intended as a resource base and for questions about Kyoto and surrounding historic locations.

As the capital for a millennium from 800 AD, Kyoto, Nara and surrounding districts are a world-class cultural asset. Let's discuss archeology, museums, gardens, temples, traditional arts and crafts, etc. This thread is not intended for tech gizmos, manga, anime which is more the focus of Japan General.

In Kyoto are a whole range of museums, literally dozens and dozens - most temples have museums with religious sculpture, scrolls and documents and some of the most ancient have marvellous artworks. Often the lighting is not good, however. In my view, among the best temple museums are Toji, Toji-in, Hokongo-in, Chishaku-in and Zuishin-ji.

A list of Kansai museums may be found in the Gruttopass - a JPY1000 booklet containing a large number of discount tickets and free passes for museums large and small. It's valid for 90 days from purchase - entry to the Kyoto National Museum is JPY540 so the free pass to that one gives some idea of the value of the booklet to museum lovers. Booklet may be purchased at participating museum ticket offices

There's also the mind-boggling Sumitomo Collection at the Sen-oku Hakukokan in Kyoto

I'm heading to china, but only as a tourist so my visa doesn't hinge on my employment
I was self employed for a while, but not anymore

the only thing I'm worried about is them calling my boss for some reason, and my boss realizing what's going on and denying he's my employer; thus invalidating my visa application

if I say I'm unemployed I will probably just be grilled by immigration
"are you planning to work in china"
"do you have an employer in china"
"did an emploer invite you to china"
"are you getting paid for volunteering in china"
"are you an english teacher"
etc, etc, etc

You ever been scammed whilst traveling?
I've been pick pocketed a time or two, but my only bad experience was in Poland.
I went to a currency exchange and wasn't really paying attention.
I gave the guy $100 USD, and I walked away with only around 300 zloty.
By the time I realized I got ripped off there wasn't much I could do.
That guy is behind an inch of glass and can ignore me if he wanted to.
I just decided not to go back there again.

Only once and it was a really minor thing.

Was on a small bus in turkey and the guy said he didn't have change and will return it to me once he gets it.
He conveniently forgot about it. I mentioned it to him as I was stepping out of the bus and he shaked his head and had that knowing smile of scaming me, as he said something to the driver and they took off. It was only 2€ though, so no biggie, just really rude for such a small amount.

Something similar happened to my dad in the Czech Republic ages ago. We, as a family on vacation, went to an exchange office and got scammed. He argued with the exchange bitch behind the glass to get this money back but she adamantly refused.
However, my dad decided to remain in the exchange office and he started telling all the incoming customers that the exchange office was a scam, scaring away every single fucking potential customer and, consequently, ruining the office's business that day. This went on for 3-4 hours until me and my sister started crying (I was like 5 or 6). Eventually the exchange office lady gave in and returned the money, and we left.

Pretty badass imo.
>>
>>1206724
When was that? And where?

Also did you not look at the rates and ask whether they have commission? That's money exchange 101.

Its the cheapest country I've ever been to. Meal coast you only 1€, subway 20 cents, bus too. You will think everything looks like madhouse at first but you'll get used to. It can be fun visiting all museums for 2€ fee. Nobody speaks english.

I know this is travel but i think it's appropriate to ask this here:
Any europoors successfuly moved to the us?
How did you do it?
>have a cs masters degree
>2years work experience
Which path is best path for green card and then citizenship?
>find job
>h1b visa
>move business to us
>invest 500k(1m) in a us business
(last two are obviously hardest since I'll have to start a startup and find some investors here etc.)

> tl;dr get married to an American or forget it - the system is fucked
You're in over your head...

H1B's are awarded annual in a lottery unless you wish to work at a non-profit (think university or research center) in which case you will be exempted. Since your potential employ wouldn't know if they could hire you until the lottery rolls around in April(?) you'd only be getting a conditional job offer - you'd have to be an elite employee for them to wait like that. In practice, foreign students at US universities can work for 1-3 years on an OPT visa after graduation. I would suspect that most lottery winners won while using the OPT window so the employer actually got to see what they could do.

H1B positions need not lead to a Green Card either - a White Collar worker bee would not necessarily get elevated to permanent residency. Potentially, if you do good work, get promoted and get industry recognition of particular forms you can get category E or O permanent residence (O is hard and doesn't require an employer sponsorship, I think).

Basically US immigration policy is fucked. As much as the political discourse talks about "stealing jobs" our immigrants (BROWN PEOPLE) come in through marriage or extended family sponsorship. We also let a handful of people in for shits and giggles via the Diversity Visa program as well as refugees from the various proxy wars we like to start.

There are avenues to enter if you have a PhD in science, patents, internationally recognized publication/art/athletics, or an oligarch parent. Earning your way isn't really possible...you can earn get a lottery ticket.
>>
Fuck off, we're full
>>
Look at the list of companies that hire the most H1B people and apply for them. I hired a guy onto my team via H1B from Europe before, it's not a big deal in certain companies.

The H1B lottery does suck, and will probably be worse with Trump in power now, but it's not nearly as bad as >>1206531 makes it sound. In my company we'd just relocate people to Canada or a european development center until they won the H1B lottery. It just took a year or two usually.

>I'm happy with my waifu
Good, don't marry an american girl, they're shit-tier for marriage in general.

Beautiful country, really friendly people. I hitchhiked so I spent a lot of time talking to cops at checkpoints. I asked them if AQIM was really active there, they were like "wtf no, is that why tourists have stopped coming here?"
It's not only worth the visit, i 100% plan on returning now that they've lowered the price of the visa.

What are your criteria for accommodations while traveling?

I need a private room and bathroom.

Usually I'm going for local girls, so I get a private room I can bring girls to - so a entire-home AirBnB or a hotel without a weird guest policy.

If I'm not trying to get laid then I'm happy with any kind of hostel bed as long as it doesn't have bedbugs.

How cheap though?

For me, usually I like to pay £5-6 or less. Sometimes I'll stretch to £7-8 but it doesn't leave me much left for food on my £10 day budget.
