>> What's the easiest language to learn for a native English speaker?

We have no idea how smart, dumb, or lazy you really are. Any language could be considered "easy".

>> What's the most useful language to learn for an American that wants to travel?

Depends where you want to travel... Knowing German is not going to help you much in South Asia, right?

>> Is there any point in mastering foreign languages, or should I just try and get the gist?

Realistically you probably need to know about 700 words to be able to converse in most situations in a foreign language.. above that you are entering what some would call fluent.. but "fluent".. its a myth.

Can I fly from the second part of my connecting ticket without being on the first flight?

>flying with a connection in Istanbul to Tbilisi
>Want to visit Istanbul also
>round trip tickets are IAD>KBP>TBS with return being the reverse
>I would like to buy a One way from TBS to KBP and check out Istanbul
>Want to then just get back on my original flight from KBP to IAD without flying the TBS>KBP route

Can I do this?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
if you don't board the first flight the whole trip gets cancelled.

But here it's not your first flight, but the first of the return. You might be able to cancel that leg by calling the airline after having already travelled to TBS.
But I wouldn't count on it.
>>
>>1206871
Just fly to Istanbul and then buy round trip tickets to Tbilisi
>>
>>1206886
What if you skip out on the last leg of the flight there? As in I stop in KBP on my way to TBS missing the last flight, however get a 1 way to TBS and get back on my original return flight as normal.

Hello fellow travelers! I'm planning a trip to Milan, Italy, and I need some advice for interesting locations to look for. At the moment I have saved all the Magic the Gathering, Board Game and Comics Shops I could find. Now what I want to find is interesting sightseeing locations, cool underground bars, best pizza place and also I am open to suggestions. Cheers!

How do I score a girl in Barcelona? Since I go away from here in a month I don't need a relationship.

Like many guys on 4chan I am socially anxious and afraid of rejection. I have a big place to stay here and I am handsome, but I can't speak any Espanol or Catalan. There don't seem to be many tourist girls here this time of the year.

I have not had sex in a year and the frustration is killing me.

I am just curious, do I have more chances with a local girl on Tinder or a tourist that speaks English? The tourist ones are usually in groups, so its kinda difficult to approach them.

Is England safe ?
Apparently, England has a high crime rate, and it holds me back from visiting it. Especially London.
Is Bristol any different ? How is Scotland ?

Dude, just go.
Great Britain is one of the most civilized places in the world.
>>
Parts of London aren't, but it's better than all the other large European capitals.

In practical terms, the UK is much more safe than most of the European cities because they are very "centered". Unless you went to some Northern English sink estates looking for a fight you aren't going to end up in a bad way, it's clear when you're getting into a bad part of town because you can just see it. Unlike in Paris, for example, where you can just accidentally walk into one.

Visit: London, York, Bath, Oxford, Norwich, Leeds, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Harrogate, Bristol, rural Wales, North Yorkshire, all of the Home Counties.

Avoid: Liverpool, Sheffield, Manchester.

I am from South Africa, Cape Town. I would really like to go work in America (They pay so much more for Network Engineers)

I'm scared that America is actually a shithole. My biggest concern is the mass shootings and bombs.

It seems like it easier to get killed there than here.

Has it turned into a 3rd world country? (Besides the economy)

It isn't even remotely a shithole. That's media coverage. We're as first world as it gets. You'll be fine unless we have a civil war over this political crap.

I'll add that like any country if you choose to live somewhere in the ghetto to save a buck, you'll be living in squalor with bums and gangsters. Same as anywhere else.

Go for it. Those attacks are really not happening so often.
Worse case scenario is that you end up like snowden lol (network engeneer got it, ok, peace)

Hello /trv/
So here is the story. US fag here. I have had the same job since my senior year in high school. Its been five years now and while I have climbed the 'corporate ladder' a bit I am now stuck and probably will not get promoted again for many years. I am at the point where I'd rather die than work for the people I work for another year (hell these last 2 months are going to be a challenge)

I've decided to risk it all to have some life experiences.
I will be traveling to Iceland a country that I've wanted to visit for some time now.
Icelandic is the only other language I even have a slight grasp on and for some reason have known a few Icelandic songs for over a decade which i think helped when I finally got serious and started actively trying to learn their language.

To make a long original post short.
I will be leaving around mid-may and trying to stay for around 60 days.
I will be bringing around 5000 USD to exchange.
I plan to bring only a backpack and duffel bag.
No family or friends will be joining me (wasn't really trying to drag anyone with me anyway)

I have never left the country besides going to canada, and never on my own.
I have been doing lots of research since September, but am always open to advice.

So has anyone ever been?
Anyone live there?
Any advice on a first travel experience alone?

I already know it is an expensive country to live in let alone visit. But money is not the reason I am going, I am going for the experience and to challenge myself.
My ultimate goal would be to return in 2018 to attend a University in their country.

Okay so there is the story. Share some advice, experiences, or rip me apart lolol THANK YOU /TRV/

Read some sagas, that will enhance your enjoyment. Go to the Settlement Museum in Bogarnes and do both tours, or at least the Egil's Tour. I'd also suggest a stop at Snorristofa.

I don't know how much fun you'll have on that amount of money for that long. I do think maybe you'd enjoy camping in a campground, but 5000/60 is under $100USD per day. I think you need double that, if not triple because there will be days you spend to do things more than eat, and you'd really enjoy a car and normal places to sleep. There is nothing on the side of the road, but about 2 feet of gravel before it's not even walkable. I don't know how people camp. The hostels aren't inexpensive, especially at peak tourism. It's volcanic lava fields. Think holes. I'm sorry but I really don't think Iceland is a place you go to slum it and backpack. It's a place you go for 10-14 days if you can manage that, but you want to do what makes it a cool place, not avoid all those things while whining about money. Yes, you can skip breakfast, eat a N1 hotdog and instant coffee for lunch, but at dinner, you're going to spend. Forget about drinking on that budget. At. All.
>>
I know almost nothing about Iceland but I would say go for it. Life is short and as far as I know you live just once. Shouldn't hard to go back home and find another job if all goes wrong. Most icelanders also speak English so I don't really think you will have a hard time getting by.
>>

Thanks for the message.
Luckily I don't drink :P so I won't get caught in that trap I hear its awfully expensive. I plan to not stay in a hostel the entire time either and especially not in Reykjavík if I can help it as I know its a tourist trap, I was looking into getting to smaller towns where I've seen hostels considerably cheaper to attract tourists to stay outside Reykjavík. I have heard to avoid restaurants to at all costs. I would survive on what I can buy at Bónus as it goes at home I usually just eat once a day anyway and rarely have time to snack. Only thing I splurge on is coffee and cigarettes. However I have quit smoking this last week as to get ready to leave because I know I can't afford 15$ a day on something not useful.

As far as coffee goes I'll have to live without or make my own.

But yeah I'm looking into trying to stay primarily in Akureyri

>>1206064
haa thats okay, but thank you. Yeah I plan on coming home pretty broke but I have family that would help me out if I could find a job right away. Although I would want to get one quick so I could save up and go again! haa thanks

Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:

Tunisia is fine, in Algeria there's certain parts of the country you should avoid if you don't want to get kidnapped (South, East, near the Tunisian border)

terrorists have been trying to gain control of algeria and libya for 40 years. american troops just withdrew from libya i believe. I dont think all of africa's arma is fighting terrorists. There are probably different groups within libya and syria and shit trying to overthrow the government of algeria and tunisia, etc.

tldr; you might see some suicide bombings, maybe some civilian rebel shootings kind of things. The government is fuckin up over there

Hi /trv/
I have a plan for next year of going to Russia for the 2018 WC, see the opening, a match of my country and the final match and, meanwhile, go for Georgia and Armenia. But I saw in several international tourism recommendations (e.g. France and Canada) that Russian Causasus is a no-go place - even non-muslim places. If it is so, how could I go from Russia to Georgia without using Sochi-Abkhazia and North Ossetia routes?
Also, they do not recommend Rostov Oblast cities near Crimea/Ukraine. Is this still valid?
Finally, is there any tourism based at Andrei Chikatilo murders in Rostov-na-Don?

Never enter Georgia from these routes, it's considered an illegal entry by the Georgian authorities. Use the regular border between Vladikavkaz and Kazbegi.

Russian Caucasus is amazing from what I've seen, but I've only seen bits of Karachai-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria. Friend of mine has, however, visited all the Caucasian republics, including Chechnya and Dagestan, without problems. Just police occasionally wondering what the fuck a foreigner was doing in bumhole nowhere Chechnya, and interrogating him for a few hours until they were sure he wasn't there to cause trouble. Pic is Kislovodsk.
>>
>>1204329

One of my friends went to Abkhazia after I'd split off to Armenia. He didn't have any problems re-entering Georgia. I think he even posted a few pictures on Facebook holding an AK-47 that some separatists had let him toy around with.

>>1204289

I haven't been to the Russian Caucasus, but one of my former employers is from Krasnodar Krai. He's a member of an ethnic minority that's been discriminated against since the tsars wrested control of the region from the Ottoman Empire.

He recently went back home to visit relatives from September through November. I think he said that he took a ferry to Crimea. Apparently he was interrogated for a while because he's fluent in Russian but holds an American passport, but didn't have any problems otherwise. The impression I got is that the Crimea and Rostov regions are safe as long as you're not dicking around in a bad way.

Couldn't say for sure, though. His circumstances are obviously different than yours would be.

That's the thing. You can enter from the Georgian side just fine, and return. Georgia takes no issue, as they consider you not the have even left the country. If you, however, enter from Russia, then continue into Georgia proper, you have entered the country illegally as far as the government is concerned.
