Anyone here from KY?
I was thinking about moving there late this year and trying to do a little bit of research about Lexington/Winchester area but Youtube only has so much. Anyone have any info for a college aged guy? (Work, Climate, People, etc)

>>
OP here, probably shouldve added that im originally born and raised from MI but currently in FL for a while. Looking for a new place but with similarites to MI. Originally i thought about MN but not sure about those winters.
>>
Went to UK so lived in Lexington for four years. But that's been about a decade ago. Lexington was a pretty nice city but it is totally dominated by the college. If you are college age, you'll probably enjoy it. The bar scene is fun and has something for everyone. The horse track there is second to none. There's a good variety of housing and it was very affordable when I was there. The climate is pretty decent. You'll see 2 or 3 decent snows a winter and the summers are probably not to dissimilar from Michigan. The people are a mixed bag just like everywhere. It's highly white though so if you're a minority, consider that.
>>
I live in Mt Sterling, right next to Winchester and Lexington. Work around here is mainly manufacturing/factory work or at least entry level work. Lexington is the larger city so there are a lot more job opportunities there than in surrounding areas like Winchester although Winchester is stepping up their call center game recently (Amazon and Pearl or whatever). Cost of living is pretty cheap compared to other places, but Lexington is more pricey usually. Like the other anon mentioned, it's mainly white and racism is still very prevalent around here so keep that in mind. Some people are wary about people they view as outsiders, but you should be okay especially if you stay in more urban areas. Lexington is the more progressive area I would say and has more to do in general. Kentucky's weather is super unpredictable these days. We have 4 defined seasons of course, but it can go from snowing one week and 30 degrees outside to sunny and 65 the next. Feel free to ask me anything else, I've lived in Kentucky my whole life unfortunately.

Is $7,000 (Ticket seperate) budget enough to have vacation in finland for 30 days? I've never been to any European countries and I just want my 22nd birthday nice this year.
I'm going to Helsinki first then go to Lahti.
22 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Why would you spend all that money and time for just finland? There won't be nearly enough things to do here for 30 days and it's really expensive.

Your budget should be fine though but with that time and money I'd rather spend it on multiple cities that are far nicer and cheaper. For example I did budapest-prague-krakow-wroclaw-berlin-vilnius-tallinn-helsinki in the summer for a month and spent like 1500eur

Realisticly speaking your plan sounds really stupid. Helsinki is kinda boring and seen in a few days. And for what reason would you go to Lahti lol.
>>
Wtf why in Finland of all places in Europe? Make an Interail between spain, france, italy if you really want, and you can come home with 5000$ in your pocket too. Helsinki is a 'new city', nothing much to see there desu. Two days is more then enough.
>>
>then go to Lahti
Fucking lost it, nice try 0/5.
Have fun.

I don't really care about customer service, as long as the plane doesn't crash and I get my luggage back.

>get luggage back
How common is it for airlines to lose your luggage? I am about to fly first time with a budget airline, with a layover and I'm concerned about arriving without my stuff and being stranded for a month without it.
>>
>>1205181

Not very often. Though, it does happen, normally travel insurance will cover it.

Its actually the airport that looses the luggage, not the carrier you fly with, as the airport handles all of the baggage when it arrives and does the delivery to the air plane. Shittier airports or massive airports will loose more luggage than other airports however.

Where in Hungary?
There are a few of us in here from Budapest, so we can tell you about bp a lot...
Bathhouses are a definite must there, eg. Rudas or Király or Széchenyi, or any, basically.
Northeast has a lot of good hiking spots, good wine. Southeast is my least fave, cause I'm not really into plains, but it has some nice horse riding spots, more thermal baths, etc. Southwest is nice, hilly, more wine. Northwest is also quite hilly, has some nice historical sights.

If you're just going to Budapest, ask for a massage in one of those old bathhouses. Get drunk on mulled wine. Bp also has the most escape rooms per capita, lot of them in English, too.
>>
>>1206137
Very cool to know. Yeah I'll mainly be in Budapest but will be heading south to my friends town for 2 days (Tiszakécske). Already have plans to check out bath houses and the main sites.

Now what exactly is an 'escape room'? That sounds cool.

Hello guys,
I'm heading to London för a week in February. Wanted to ask you guys what are some fun things to do? Are there any alternative city tours?
31 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
What sort of stuff do you enjoy doing? Also, what is an "alternative city tour?" Never heard that term.
>>
You can get to any other city in the UK in under a day, depends what you're interested in.
>>
My experience:
>Just walking around in london is pretty great
>there are free city tours which are pretty good, and you get to meet people and visit a ton of the main city atractions
>go to platform 9 3/4, it is pretty good to visit and you can take a retarded photo there
>visit that beatles street which's name I forgot, there is a Beatles store just near with so much Beatles stuff it scares you
>meet people on the Hostel so they can help you decide your next stop and you can make friends

I know that's all pretty basic but that was my first trip. They say London is a pretty dead city during night, but I think it looks amazing in some spots. But the "nightlife" there is kinda dead.

So I'll be travelling to the US, UK and perhaps Canada this year. My main question is customs and laptop searches.

I know customs have full rights to search you and any personal items when coming across the border in pretty much any country. I'm not worried about that.

What I'm concerned about though is my computer. Being a /b/tard, partial autist, and really really weird 18yr old guy, I may have some 'questionable' things but I'M NOT A PEDO.

Have any of you anons ever been subjected to an electronic search by officers when traveling abroad? Is it intensive? How do they search for questionable material?
39 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>1202977
New laws came in at the start of this year and customs officials now have the right to inspect any electronic storage device, including phones and tablets and laptops, looking for evidence of illegal material or illegal activities. They have the right to demand receipts for any digital content they suspect may have been illegally downloaded, and the have the right to detain you until they can verify the age of any subjects depicted in any media that they suspect may be against child exploitation laws.

This is why airport officials suggest that passengers allow at least 8 months to clear customs and immigration at the airport.

You don't tell us when this year you will be traveling, so if your flight is before November you should go to the airport right now.
>>
>>1202977
Just move any shit you don't want to be seen to an external HDD, leave it at home or whatever, then travel.
>>
>>1202977
>I'M NOT A PEDO
Dont look and act like a pedo when you go.
Be friendly and relaxed. You'll look less suspicious that way.

I'm considering moving to Idaho next month. I currently live in Chicago, and I do not have a job there. I almost have a bachelor's degree in business, and I work in tech.

Can anybody tell me about Idaho? Jobs, culture ect.

not very many jobs

recommend you move to spokane where there's more work, and then just drive an hour into the mountains
>>
Live in washington, love to travel to Idaho for vacation and camping.

Its a nice place, one of the last few with plenty of small town feel and good life away from people.

I assume you will work in Boise though, so its alot different. Standard good size city, plenty outdoor recreation to go enjoy. If you dont love the outdoors dont move to Idaho or anywhere in the northwest.

Last i checked seatbelt laws were 5$ and people still gave u beers to go for your drive home. Or atleast northern idaho does, enjoy, the last state i feel u have some freedoms in, and i wouldnt mind living there one day
>>
>>1207566
Boise doesn't have a lot of jobs? I checked Indeed and it says there's like 5,500 listings. Is it one of those places where you're lucky just to get a $12 an hour jobs?

>>1207654
I want to move to Idaho because of the cheap housing, you can buy a brand new house for a lot cheaper than most places. Also I'm extremely outdoorsy, because I'm originally from northern wisconsin.

My main concern is jobs though.

How doable is this with no money? Or at the most, maybe $100 to last a year or so for extreme emergencies. I'm in the eastern part of the country and want to bike to the west coast.

My biggest concern is how I'll get food. Is dumpster diving really as easy and prolific as they say online? In big cities it makes sense but I will obviously only be in big cities a small percentage of the trip. I imagine in small towns it may be easier to find a mom-and-pop restaurant that would let you work for a meal or two.

I'm also a little nervous about sleeping in random places. I've never camped out or slept in public before.

Any tips or advice to make the journey and not die?

>>
Normally I'd suggest asking this on /out/ but they've been swarmed by /pol/ in the past week and are in the middle of all sorts of angry fights.

With only $100 it will be very, very difficult. And working for a meal or two in small towns is almost nonexistent these days. Conditions in many small towns are quite tough and most places won't offer a temporary job to a stranger just passing through.

If you're serious about this, first try to save up more. People who pull this sort of thing off successfully bring decent camping supplies and equipment for repairing and maintaining the bike.

You'll need a lot of water and a lot of calories to keep up the daily grind of cycling. Relying on dumpster diving seems like a good way to starve yourself.

Practice a few longer rides on your bike. Increase the distance until you're doing multi-day trips. That will give you an idea of how your body responds to repeated distance cycling.

Get some camping under your belt too so that you won't be nervous when you have to stop for the night in some remote place.

There's a few anons on here who have had all sorts of crazy bike trip adventures, so hopefully they'll chime in too.

I will definitely be going prepared with things like this in mind. I doubt a bike would last all the way to the west coast without needing some repairs here and there. I think one of those portable water purifiers and a reusable water bottle would be a good idea. First aide stuff too.

I will probably bring a little food as well, something dry and dense. I don't think I could be able to carry several months worth at a time with me though.

> Relying on dumpster diving seems like a good way to starve yourself.

Do you have any suggestions for other ways to obtain food? I won't be leaving until may at the earliest, so I thought I could also research/practice how to forage for food in nature. Maybe also seeking out any soup kitchens or homeless shelters along the way, if those even exist in any real capacity? I do want to have as many ideas for sources of food as possible.

Practicing long rides and camping is a good plan, as well. Thanks for the post

Gonna be on a small group trip to France and Belgium for a Uni trip and I will definitely need some good earplugs. I've never really worn earplugs before for sleeping, so I need something both comfortable and noise-reducing.

Anybody with experience with a good brand?
I don't wanna feel like pic related on the trip because of lack of sleep.

Go see an audiologist if you can afford it and get custom ones made. It's a bigger initial investment than commercial ones but greater comfort, noise reduction and longevity.

>>1207178
How long does it take/expensive is that?

These are what I use:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F99B1MS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1

I tried lots before I found these to be the best, by far. Never needed to buy custom ones and honestly I'd probably lose them. I lose so many of these disposable ones that I went through a 40-pack in about 10 months on the road.

when i go through with a budget airline that i use (wowair) it allows you to actually book rooms and stuff while checking out
they're based in iceland, and they have this option that if you stay in iceland for an extra day in between your connecting flights, you can book neat tours and that too

so there's really no need for that shenanigans as most airlines will have semi-inclusive stuff ready in your face when you're trying to buy your airfare

Dont know how to start this, but
I'm kinda tired of my shitty life, so I'm planning a trip, across the Europe.
Starting from my homecountry Estonia, no specific location, just want to see the world. Definitely going to netherlands and spain, but here's where you come in, suggest me places to visit, maybe somplace to start fresh.
Planning to take the trip alone with my car. I'm kinda unprepared for this, so any tips and shits is welcome.

Also, sorry for bad english.
