What if you're a doctor and the next longest real vacation you get will be months away and can only be 7 days in length? I feel like I'm getting too old now and the real world finally caught up as I discovered something I truly enjoy.

See friends and cry. There isn't much you can do besides let yourself adjust with time. Hope you feel better anon :(.

Hey /trv/, what are some countries with lax laws regarding painkillers? I've heard that prescription strength ops are easy to get in India, so I've been thinking about doing a sedated tour on the Darjeeling.

Open to any and all countries, but would prefer ones that are relatively cheap to travel in.

Laos you can buy opium
https://matadornetwork.com/notebook/vang-vieng-used-ridiculous-party-scene-earth-heres-happened/

Van Vieng is no longer a free-for-all but all the restaurants still have opium menus once you get inside, they just aren't openly advertised on the street anymore.

Being a junky is played out though, there's nothing cool about getting fucked up and being a bum. I suggest you go to detox because if you get on opiates in SEA you'll likely go full junky and get busted.

I don't know who you heard this from, and it may be true, but my wife's former boss lost her job for trying (and failing) to buy oxycodone from an Indian pharmacy. Cambodia and as of a few weeks ago Myanmar are pretty fast and loose, and benzodiazepines are available with few questions asked in many places in Southeast Asia. But bogus pills and arrest are never impossible in Asia.

What's the youngest that you've started solo travelling/backpacking

Personally, just after I had turned 21.

To be honest, I know very few people that have travelled solo, its not really that common of a thing. Out of all my friends only maybe 2-3 have, maybe a few others have gone on group tours before knowing anyone beforehand, but that's it.

15.
Told parents I was going camping innawoods during school holidays (was in the Scouts so they didn't question it). Instead I hitchiked to the south coast, got the Newhaven - Dieppe ferry and started heading down through France.

My folks fucking freaked when I phoned them to say I was in Biarritz, and my old man shredded my passport when I got back.
>Highly recommended trip nonetheless.

Hey /trv/!

This is not my home board, but I have a question for you guys.

Is Israel a good place to take a vacation? I've heard that the beaches are fun and the night life is great. I've been trying to convince my friends to go there on a party filled vacation with me. Is it a good choice?

Yes! The beaches and the night life are superb! I do have to say though that this is the strangest spelling of the word "Thailand" that I have ever seen. Is it the British spelling or something?

If you can get over the fact that his advice is geared toward middle age, middle class Americans, he has a lot of useful information.

Definitely one of the go-to writers for Euro travelling.

His TV shows are okay, but his books have more information.

Depends on my length of stay honestly. If I am staying a week or a less I usually just put things in a backpack. Those vaccum backs you can use with your hands are amazing.

If doing connecting flights and staying somewhere over a week without access to a washing machine then usually I'll get a wheeled backpack

Hey guys, im going to be headed to Italy this June with my family. Were visiting Venice, Florence, and Rome and are gonna be there for 2.5 weeks total. I'm going to have a night by myself in each of those cities, so are there any things you guys would recommend me going to? Any kind of fun night life?

I've been planning a trip there with my girlfriend for about a year. I'm trying to cheap out as much as possible, especially with the supplies.

I wanted these Rick Steves books for while I was in Italy and Switzerland and I ended up finding them online for free from a pain in the ass source.

I have not read over them yet, and I don't know if they will be of any use to you as far as night life goes, but I hope you can find some use for them.

I hope you have a great time anon.

I'm going to Tanzania on a medical mission but will be flying into Africa via Kenya (NBO) on a round trip. I have my visa and what not worked out, but am I screwed coming back to Kenya to catch my flight after finishing my work in Tanzania? I heard there's some dealie where you can travel freely though eastern Africa but I'm not sure of the specifics. Would I need another transit visa in addition to the one I'll need to get through Kenya?

Where are you from? If western you should be fine. Flights to Europe are easy (esp. Geneva, Zurich, Frankfurt, others) and you could always fly there and transfer.
>>
>>1238478
I lived in Kenya for a while.. you can go by bus from tanzania to Nairobi.. it takes like 20 hours.

coach buses are good though, with leather seats and airco, television screens and things like that. very modern.

depends where you come from.. if you are from a western country you can simply buy a visa (basically a stamp in your passport) for around 50 dollar at the Kenyan border.
>>
>>1239172
I'm addition. If you are not from some shithole country the only thing you need to get in and out of Kenya is a stamp in your passport..

When I was in kenya I went to Uganda and Tanzania and had no problems at all going in and out of kenya.

yes there might be some crooked border guards that want 10 or 20 dollar extra but that's nothing.

I want to move to Paris but I'm so scared of the terrorist attacks that have been targeted at France. There's been so many of them. I'm from a rather small city in Finland, thus I have never had to live in fear of becoming a victim of a terrorist attack. I know it is very unlikely that it will happen, let alone to ME in all of the some 10 million people currently living in Paris (if a terrorist attack will even happen there any more), but just imagining to die in such a brutal way like people did last week in Stockholm... I just cannot bear to imagine that happening to myself.

I know what some of you may think of me, but please take into consideration that I come from a VERY safe country where I've never had to be afraid of anything like that happening to me, therefore this all seems very weird for me.

Merci.

>I want to move to Paris
do it if thats what you want
>but I'm so scared of the terrorist attacks that have been targeted at France.
they happen now, you are aware of that, but in my own opinion, if your goal in life is to truly move to Paris, then it is better to accomplish your goal and die for it in the prime of living your dream rather than to be a coward: live safe, die old, never accomplish your goal, and a life of regret. Maybe you truly dont want to move to Paris then, otherwise why let it stop you?

“A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once. It seems to me most strange that men should fear, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come.”

make sure to be aware, strong, and smart.

Funnily enough you just stated exactly my thoughts. It's near to impossible for me to be able to study law in Finland as the school only takes the top of the top to enjoy the phenomenal Finnish school system. I have two options left for myself: either I stay in safe, good old Finland and study some subject I have absolutely no interest of whatsoever or I take whatever my destiny beholds for me in Paris. I believe I should follow my intuition on this, the bad thing is I have no idea what it's trying to tell me.

Great quote, is it Hemingway?
>>
As a french citizen, young student in Paris btw, my first reaction is to support you coming here and assure you that we all feel safe (take the example of the european football cup, or COP21, Olympics in 2024...).
I perfectly understand your point of view, but if it's your dream and desire to move to Paris then don't let them take your future down.
Hope to see you around !

Anyone else have an issue traveling and dealing with spicy food?

>want to go to japan and some asian countries as a cultured otaku
>start trying to eat more asian food
>everything is spicy
>green peppers, onions, crushed red pepper, and other spicy food common on everything
>4 glasses of drink later
>take another bite
>eyes and nose get runny

Anyone else have to deal with spicy food while traveling? Is there any way to tell people not to burn my tastebuds off while traveling?
