Thoughts on buying plane tickets OTC?
Is it a good idea? Is it more expensive in general?

I'm thinking about a situation where you can't buy online for whatever reason (your CC was stolen, you reached your CC limit, the company won't accept debit online, etc).

Planning a Euro trip and looking for some advice. How long should I spend in Tallin,Stockholm, Helsinki and Hamburg? Also is Gavle worth checking out?
>>
>country bumpkin
>terrified of world
>required business trip to vegas

So I figured that I would make the best of it. Trains are awesome so I would go home by train. I have a connecting bus to the LA union station.

The problem comes in
>greyhound
>leaves Las Vegas at 3am Friday

So I am at the MGM. Im told to use uber but I dont know how it works, I can probably use taxi. Reviews tells me the LV greyhound station is awful in the day.

What is safest route to get into the station with luggage? Do I get a ride earlier in the day and hang out at the Plaza then walk? Do I get a an hour and a half early so I am there a hour early? Is there an inside that is safe (finding conflicting reviews).

What's up /trv/?

In a month I will be travelling to Singapore for 9 nights with my partner. Neither of us have ever been but it's been a very long time coming, so I want to make sure we utilise our time there. I have done considerable research over the last few months but don't pretend to be an expert on the place.

At the moment our certain activities include:
>Universal Studios
>Marina Bay Sands observation deck
>Singapore Flyer
>Art and Science Museum
>River cruise
>Orchard Road shopping
>A fuckload of walking
>Buddha tooth temple
>Little India/Chinatown/Arabtown
>Checking out Hawker centre food

This seems like a nice enough use of 9 days as we don't want our pace to be so flat out that we can't enjoy ourselves. But is there anything essential we are overlooking?

How practical is a day trip across the Malaysia or Indonesia borders? My gf has been talking about wanting to go to Legoland in Malaysia if we get a chance.

What experiences has /trv/ had in Singapore? Did you like it? Share ITT

Thanks in advance /trv/.

Your list is looking pretty good, but if I could give you one suggestion:

Do NOT over plan in Singapore. That list looks easy to achieve within 9 days, honestly even less than that. And that is good. Because you WILL come across things you don't anticipate, you will get caught up in the sights, and you will not want to be rushing to your next item. Give yourself time to savour the city because I promise you will want to.

Even planning a few days off can be good. Enjoy yourselves and don't think too hard about a "list". Do the things you want and give yourself time to do them.
>>
>>1210391
9 days is too much imo, you can take a bus from Singapore to KL or Malacca or something for a few days.

Umm, a personal recommendation would be go try the Chilli crab / black pepper crab at 'No Signboard' at Geylang.

I'll never understand why foreigners want to come to Singapore to see all those man-made attractions and tourist traps when they could go and see amazing natural beauty in other SEA countries.

It's the best when they come here to eat McDonalds.

21 year old apprentice bricklayer from the UK here. Sick of my boring depressing life and living in this grey miserable hellhole. Looking to leave everything behind and run away to a new country. I have hardly any money, enough for a plane ticket but I have nothing holding me back. Has anyone here actually done this and just left with very little planning and is anyone here thinking of doing this and maybe interested in joining my plan?

Pic related is my housemate

You should save up some money and get at least somewhat of a plan, lest you end up like those broke backpackers in Southeast Asia that everyone hates.

Given your nationality, I would suggest looking into a working holiday visa for Australia, New Zealand, or Japan.
>>
>>1243074
> working holiday visa for Australia, New Zealand, or Japan.

I appreciate your input but this really isn't what I'm after. I want to permanently move to another country without the possibility of coming back. As an EU citizen I can legally live and work in any country in the Eurozone but I was considering going to South Africa or somewhere similar and overstaying the Visa duration. I'm looking for someone else to do this with or at least get started off with and then split up. Bare in mind I can work as a bricklayer which is a skilled trade.

/biz/realite here.

I'm 20 years old, English and I have £20,000
Decided I want to spend my entire savings travelling whilst I'm young.
I can earn more money but I cant get my youth or my time back, so fuck it. Besides 20k isnt much, but it would probably be a nice amount for travelling

Where would you go if you if you were me and how long?
I'm going inter railing in Europe first of all, for one month. I then have 2 months before I go back to college so I'm probably going to go somewhere else like straight away, or maybe not even come home.
I'd kinda like to explore somewhere exotic and I heard there are jungle temples in Thailand or something with big golden buddhas. I don't want to research it too much because I want do discover it myself without the internet spoiling it (to a certain extent)

Has anybody here ever taken an Amtrak train? How was it? I have read that you smell diesel fumes and it's an awful experience

>>
>>1242527
It's not that bad but it's hardly worth the money unless you have a DIRECT city to city train.

Amtrak
>uses commercial rails for a lot of their journey, and gives the right of way to freight usually
>does not have a proper station at each major city or routes to them
>often time you will have to hop on a grey hound to go to another station for long journeys
>deal with greyhound type seating and bleh food
>generally take longer than a greyhound or flight for not much cheaper
>has a pretty shitty on time schedule from what I remember

Pluses are
>get to see some cool scenery that you normally won't
>there is probably more...

If you aren't in a rush to get somewhere it can be okay, but hardly worth the price given there are much faster options to get from point A to B in a much shorter time frame.
>>
>>1242532
I have like $300 on an Amtrak voucher and I don't think I can get a refund which sucks
>>
>>1242533
You could probably get to some okay places just look at the travel details. A bunch of times you can put somewhere in only to have a transfer from X station to Y station via some shit bus service and they you have to just sit and wait for the next train to show up.

I just got a new job in Los Angeles and want to move there.

What areas should I focus on in my search? My new job is near Pershing Square and I own a car. I've heard the traffic is nightmarish so being near a train station would be nice.

LA native here.

You dont want to move here. I dont know where you live now but it doesnt matter. You will hate life if you have to get to Pershing Sqaure everyday. I promise you will. Unless theyre paying you A LOT (and I mean like $80k minimum) I would turn down the offer.

The trains in LA are a joke and only poor people use them. A car is still the fastest way around LA even with the shit gridlock traffic.

I've got my first solo trip coming up in two days and I'm getting anxious. I've been on a plane maybe twice in my childhood, so I don't really know what I'm doing.

I think I'm prepared, but is there anything I'm forgetting?
I'm only going for a few days so I've packed light and will be taking my luggage on as hand luggage.
I have visa, accommodation, passport and travel insurance sorted. I know how I'm getting to and from the airport, in both countries. I've just checked into my flight out and received my mobile boarding pass... that's all I need, right?

I keep thinking I must be overlooking something.

The questions you asked are very relative and also vary from neighbourhood to neighbourhood. Where are you moving from and what general area are you thinking of moving to?

Moving from small-town Northern Ontario.

Lived in Vancouver for a few months when I was little. That's the only experience I have with actually living in cities.

My campus is right downtown (Ryerson).

Family friend lives in central Whitby, I'll be staying with them for awhile although would very much like to move out. That's where the information on neighbourhoods comes in. I've heard it's almost impossible to find anywhere to live closer to downtown.
>>
>>1242080
First of all, do you prefer small towns over cities? Because if you do there is almost a 100% chance you won't like Toronto. Do you remember if you liked your time in Vancouver? If you're willing to have an open mind and not go in hating it, you might enjoy your time.

>How's the public transit? (I'll have about an hour and fifteen minute commute)
So I guess you're planning on commuting from Whitby. Like you said, move out as soon as possible to somewhere closer. The GO train is alright and getting from Union to Ryerson isn't that hard, but it can be pricey if you're doing it everyday. Ideally move within a half hour bike ride from your school and bike when you can. Don't even bother with driving in the city.

>Does the city feel 'cramped'?
Compared to small town Northern Ontario? Probably. I've never had a claustrophobic feel in any city I've lived in, but that's most likely because I've only lived in cities. I assume it's something you get used to. Although, Toronto does have plenty of urban parks.

>Does it smell bad?
Again, Compared to small town Northern Ontario? Probably. It smells just about as bad as any major city.

>Where should I start looking for my own apartment? Is it even feasible to do so?
Universities have student specific housing (and I'm not talking about residences). Check your online student account, there should be something there. If nothing else search "student housing" on kijiji.

>Any particularly shitty neighborhoods to avoid?
Not any ones you'd be likely to go by. Most of Toronto's worst neighbourhoods are on the peripheries of the city. Land in the city centre became too valuable and all of the old shitty areas became condos.

>Is it boring?
Back in the 60's Toronto had a reputation of being Montreal's nose-to-the grind-stone, "accountant-like" brother. That has changed in recent decades. Toronto has a great nightlife (although last call could be later), and plenty of events, festivals, sports leagues, niche hobby groups, etc.
