So I uhh found a fossil in my backyard. It's like a shell of a Nautilus of some sort. Anyone feel like helping me figure out what exactly it is? I washed it out with a scrub and hot water
That looks more like a potato, man. Are positively sure it's not a potato?

HOW DO I FUCKING SLEEP IN A TENT AND BE COMFORTABLE WITHOUT A FUCKING AIR MATTRESS!?!?!?
>>1060385
It helps if you've spent all day hiking. I spent three months on a CCF pad, by the end of it, my back hurt a lot less than when I slept on a bed.
I sleep on ccf every night at home anyway, beds are overrated back killers
>>1060391
I always have misalignment in my neck when I sleep on a mattress. I also have indoor allergies, poor diet and television addiction; it's amazing how much better my overall health is when I'm not at home.
What is the spookiest thing that happened to you in the woods?
>>1059787
somebody told me there was a skellington hiding inside me. I don't like skellington they is of looking scaryness
Hearing people at night is the spookiest. Mr bear and racoon won't but me if I stay in my tent, but people are fucked up and scary
Just bought an entry level metal detector. Sounds like a fun little hobby.
Anyone have any experience? Tips for a beginner?
>>1059016
what'd you get OP? been thinking about it myself for quite some time
>>1059017
I picked it up at Canadian Tire. Should be able to get them at any kind of outdoor recreation store though. Would have ordered a better brand online but I didn't want to wait and this one was on sale.
Got it for $150 plus tax
I just started detecting last fall. It's a fun hobby and I've found some weird shit already.
What's your favorite snack/food while innawoods
>>1058942
coffee :)
Rib eyes and tequila
Mountain house, chili mac.
Anything i can forage.
Anyone here slept in a bivvy bag? I can't think of anything more grim. Does it not get sweaty as fuck in there?
>>1058022
Yes and no. The little bit that covers the face I always left open. Though mine also had a bug net so I didn't get bugs in my face while still getting good airflow.
>>1058022
>I can't think of anything more grim.
Fucking drama queen. It's no more constricting than a sleeping bag, and if you seal it up completely then you are doing it wrong.
>>1058022
All the time. Anything decent will allow humidity to pass out of the bag, I use an SOL Escape bivvy; the only issue I've noticed is that you only get about 100 uses out of it before the thermal reflectivity layer starts to wear off, so I go through a couple each year.
Why do people shit on organic farming?
it's good for us, right?
>>1057624
I wouldn't advise shitting in your garden.
Because they are not brainwashed faggots like op

ridiculous
Are Zippos the most /out/ lighter?
No. They're the least /out/ lighter ever because the fuel evaporates. Guess you could use a dried up one in a pinch as a spark wheel though.
>>1054768
they look so cool but functionally are trash. fuel evaporates, tastes like shit if you smoke, flame likes to burn directly up only so its hard to light anything sideways, its bigger and heavier than bics. all around trash, only good thing is you can run it off any flamable liquid you can find. a much better alternative is a waterproof "survival lighter", basically a tiny zippo with a screw on top and a rubber gasket to stop fuel evaporation/water
What's a good bra that can last me days on the trail?

Post feet.

If you were to post a bait/troll thread at least post nudes you massive, flamboyant queer.

go back to /b/ faggot. this is a blue board
Feel free to post tobaccos (no weed allowed), pipes, collections, pics of favorite combos for going /out/, pics of what you're doing with your pipe and any questions you might have.
Want to get into smoking pipes without spending too much cash?
Get a Missouri Meerschaum Legend corncob pipe and a pouch of either Prince Albert, Carter Hall or Half and Half tobacco, available at most drugstores.
What you'll need: pipe, tobacco, lighter or matches, pipe cleaners, and either a regular old nail or a pipe tool (combination tamper, scoop, and small pick).
All of these together should run you less than $20.
Having trouble keeping your pipe lit? Pack it looser and smoke it slower than you think you need to, lightly tamping as needed when the smoke starts thinning out.
If you're still having trouble, try packing using the Frank Method, detailed here:

Pipe of the night
Sultan-shaped meerschaum filled with Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture.
Tin is still pretty new so it's still a little bit moist, but the initial harshness is starting to mellow into a full flavor with a spicy edge.

Pipe of the night for me
>fuck good photography practices, my shoulders hurt and I already took my pants off edition
Savinelli rusticated churchwarden I've had for about a decade with a mostly full bag of stale Captain Black that I just bought.
Don't buy pipe tobacco from rural grocery stores folks, it's been there a while.
Is frost river worth the price? Also high quality out general
Rain will destroy this overweight crap
Canvas maymay bag, sold to people who idealise living like a mowntan man, or caw boy.
Expensive =/= good
All this canvas meme shit needs to fuck off. Very few companies even have any real pride in craftsmanship any more. Even fjallraven is made by chinks.
Okay I want to try it guys, but I'm a technophobe.

I'm going on a trip TODAY, and though I have a paper OS map of the area I'd like to try app gps for fun.
Have some OC from my recent Spain trip as thanks
>>1062592
So even though it is expensive the Gaia GPS app is well worth checking out. I have used it a number of times and can't find an issue with it so far.
Where were you in Spain? I am heading to walk the GR11 on Wednesday!
Get a real phone.

What does he mean by this?
When Storm, an English Golden Retriever, spotted a faun struggling in the Long Island Sound, he swam into action, grabbing a hold of the deer and dragging it back to shore while his owner filmed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fITrmVVEoZI
According to the local CBS station, the deer got spooked again after Storm rescued it — and ran straight back into the water. A few good (human) Samaritans helped out that time, and now the deer is making a full recovery
good doggo!
maybe that deer was suicidal
>>1062284
As someone who's been around dogs all my life and seen them interact with pretty much every animal that exists in my area, I can say with utmost confidence that this dog was not trying to save that deer at all. It is struggling with its instinct to kill the deer and eat it. It is confused as what it should do and is allowed to do because of how the owner treats the dog.
>>1062289
This. Most dog owners think that their pets are little humans and completely misinterpret why they do the things that they do.
>>1062289
Around 35sec in the black dog spooks the yellow one who grabs the fawn and fucks off into to woods.
Only reason it would have done that is if it saw the deer as food and didn't want to share.
So why did the dog "save" the deer in the first place?
Because the owner pointed at it and called the dog's name, likely in the same way they do when playing fetch.
