Money isn't an issue,

How into cute squid pet? :3
>>1058269
>Salomon 4G 2GTX
Absolutely not. Mine leaked after a couple of months, and are seriously falling apart after eight months. The sole is peeling off in four places, and the leather has a serious split.
I've also been boot shopping lately.
Lems have spoiled me and I can't find any boots with a decent toe box. Is there anything similar out there suited for walking with a somewhat heavy pack?
>Go camping in the middle of no where catskills
>See 2 other people during the hike in
>Go to sleep at 9pm
>Wake up to what I thought was gunshots across the lake
>Fireworks.gif
>followed by lunatic screaming
>Take out binocs
>6 young people near the shore of the lake cheering at the fireworks every time they explode
Why cant normies leave me alone?
>>1057328
Because you went to the Catskills, not the Adirondacks.
Next time bring your ghillie suit, sneak into their campsite, and crawl into some Stacy's tent.
>>1057348
I'll have to cut some pack weight, but its doable.
Isnt it bushfire season out in yankland?
how 2 stop being scared by bugs?
they cannot hurt you, only annoy the fuck out of you.
aside from ticks
but srsly, if you are not trying to chill welcome a spider crawling up your asshole because it doesn't fucking matter.
if you are relaxing than you need to chill else theyll start getting to you. Make a plan and make sure they fuck off
the other day I found a spider in my hair so I killed it
x6000000000
doesn't fucking matter cause you just jump in water and they go away. Stop being a lil bitch.
best case the hair spiders eat the other hair bugs.
plus bees are a non issue how do you ever give a fuck unless you stirred a nest
>>1056361
wasps/hornets who actually exist to fuck you up, weird asss fuckin slimey shit that just lies on the ground and exists to die. even if I don't care about the bugs when I go out, I will eventually encounter one and my fear will be reawakened.
>>1056567
just a side note hornets (at least in many regions) are real bros.
for example the european hornet (also the dominant hornet in america) :
> they are way less aggressive the wasps, generally avoids conflict peaceful even around the nest
> they only sting as much poison as a bee, but its hurt bit more because of their bigger anatomy
> prefer to only sting to kill prey and defend hives
> they hunt pests like bugs, worms, WASPS, bees, grasshoppers, moths, locusts and katydids
> They are carnivorous but they can feed themselves with nectar and sugar-rich plant foods. Thus, they can often be found feeding on the sap of oak trees, rotting sweet fruits.
> only in fall they start targeting easter food sources like dumpsters etc.
> they forage more and don't crowd BBQs like wasps
> only nest for 1 year then the hive is abandoned
> their smell scares away other pests, wandering hives

learn what local stuff is good and bad, and what they do. while it will not help 100% it will limit the "fear of the unknown" , and how to deal with them if you meet them.
A triple-triple crowner, van dweller, and cairn kicker. Love him or hate him you can't dispute the guy is a machine.
Another leave no trace larper

This is a bad thing?
>>1052673
Dude can't sew for shit; does he only use commercial gear? lol.
I'm a novice camper building my gear up. My local surplus store sells ALICE packs for $30 and frames for $50. Is it a meme or is it really as good as it gets for the price?
The only complaint I've heard is comfort but I've also heard they're fine. Help me /out/
>>1050913
Meme, you can get much better for $80.
>>1050913
shop around, alice is shit for 80$. id buy if it was 30 for both
>>1050913
They're awful. They are uncomfortable, heavy, and they carry the load awkwardly, away from your body.
For $80 get a used Kelty Redwing 50. Hell sometimes Amazon has them new for that much. Camelcamelcamel.com for a price tracker
Was just changing a wound dressing at home, couldn't find medical tape, used some electrical tape and as long as I make sure it's loose over the wound wow this seems pretty waterproof. What's in your medkit? /k/ommando milsurp usually includes trauma shit like airway needles that probably aren't needed. I don't /out/ much yet, I'm getting my gear together for that now. I do a lot of active shit in urbanland and get injured a lot; this is everything I can think of that I use to repair damage and keep going.
>generic sterile gauze
>sterile nonstick gauze pads for dressing
>hemostatic gauze
>alcohol wipes
>sterile sealed gloves
>cloth self-sticking tape (recently discovered how useful this shit is though can do without)
>small fine tweezers
>topical antibacterial
>bentadine
>sam splint
>hydrogel/hydrocolloid dressing for blisters or wound with high exude
>tegaderm/occlusive dressing because it's the best, especially once exude has slowed
>sharpie for notes
Drugs:
>ibuprofen, acetaminophen
>asprin I guess in case heart shits out (have had a few accute tachycardia attacks lately)
>electrolyte tablets
>antihistamine, probably Benadryl as it's more fast acting for a dangerous reaction vs ceterizine et al which are more for longer term allergies (take one daily with my prescriptions b/c allergies)
>Epinephrine if I can get my hands on it
>antibiotics, presumably from compatible farm animals or sketchy pharmacies
>ketamine
Standard other camping supplies that will be useful:
>duct tape
>multi-tool
>knife
>water treatment chemicals
>cook gear for sterilizing water and tools
>needle and thread
I could see where a scalpel and syringe would come in handy, though multitool scissors and a sharp knife can get scalpel work done acceptably, if not roughly. Syringe for irrigation mostly. EMT scissors I've never needed when multitool or a good knife is handy, taking care with the latter. This could all be packed pretty compact with mini versions of stuff.
>bandaids
>bandage
>scissor
>disinfectant
>tick pen
>pen for marking ticks bites
>medical tape
>lip balm
>tweezers
>safety needles
>zip tiles
>bandana
im forgetting something but fug it
>>1058601
>>ketamine
wait, hol´up
What are some really autistic products made by larger companies? I'll start with the SOG hand axe. Tang is sharp and protrudes from the handle scales, ergonomic shaping is uncomfortable, it has horrible balance and is way too heavy so you can't get any blade speed, and it has this straight razor fucking hollow grind. Couldn't get beyond two swings with it.
Everything SOG or CRKT is shitty.
>Schrade make their first decent knife
>switch from saber grind to inferior hollow grind
fucking schrade
>>1058427
Schrade died years ago, 100% of employees laid off and all manufacturing sold and liquidated.
The name was eventually bought by a chinese factory that had already been making garbage for years (or decades) and now they sell a shit they unironically call "Schrade".
0/0 DO NOT SUPPORT. The Schrade family/legacy did their best and made their money entirely in the past, it's a phony chinese scam now. They didn't even buy the Schrade patents or designs, just the name. Fuck off.
Is there any smoked fish or meat that can be packed for 3 days without being in a sachet or can?
I know about beef jerky and stockfish but I'm looking for something you can eat more of and it only needs to be preserved or cured enough to keep for a few days.
>>1058137
If you dont want stockfish, my best bet is coldsmoked vacuum sealed trout/salmon.
>>1058137
squaw candy

I was thinking of replacing my full mattress with a hammock to sleep in and save space. Anyone here recommend it?
looking at this one.

I slept in my office in a hammock for a month once after I lost my apartment, it was pretty cool. My dad slept in a hammock almost his entire two tours in Vietnam because he was a tanker.
im interested too
looks uncomfortable af
What are the best places to catch a fish in the Denver metro area?

What gear does your /out/ setup lack?
>subpar tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag.
It works so far for the type of climate where I /out/ but it's really poor for winter or colder climates.
A compression sack for my sleeping bag or any form of water resistant covering I can put my sleeping bag or bed mat in when I have it tied to the outside of my pack. Gonna fix that problem as soon as I can tho.
My pack is too heavy
>>1057958
A rainfly, I'm in Idaho so it never rains and I've taken my chances. Also a newfag though so I haven't gone too deep innawoods
What do you think is the best sleeping bag for outdoors hammocking, on the market. looking to get one.
>>1057704
>no budget
>no climate
>no country
>not telling us backpacking or carcamping
don't worry op, we're all clairvoyant and can provide you a reasonable answer without you providing any of that information.
fucking faggot.
>>1057704
If you plan to /out in wet/rainy areas do get something synthetic, not down.
>>1057704
If it is for a hammock, the general consensus AFAIK is that you are better with a quilt and under quilt (I use a tent so I could be wrong). A sleeping bag will get compressed between you and the hammock and do a poor job insulating you.
You need to give more information as already said here to get any good recommendations >>1057732
I see Enlightened Equipment mentioned often in hammock threads. Seems like they make nice down with hammocks in mind, but I've never used one myself.
I have read that eclipses can have an effect and possibly trigger earthquakes.
Looking at the massive eclipse coming up in August, it seems to go over all the hot spots in the US.
What are the chance this causes everything to go off?
0%

^^^
>>1057703
>What are the chance this causes everything to go off?
Zero.
Next question.
Ok, out. I need some advice.
I have recently inherited a significant amount of money. Enough to retire in style.
I want to live somewhere civilized with a mild but not hot climate and close to or in an area that offers great outdoor options.
I love water and mountains.
I was thinking about Lake Tahoe.
Is that a good or bad idea? I'm open to suggestions.

There's no fucking way I'm moving to South Africa.
Come on guys, I'm serious. I love Norway and Sweden but it's winter there for half the year.
Northern California? Oregon?
Maybe I just travel for a couple of years first.
Affordable good Kukhuris? I don't want to pay 200$ upwards for a kukri I'm eventually gonna break.

How about you grow up first.
