Are Zippos the most /out/ lighter?
No. They're the least /out/ lighter ever because the fuel evaporates. Guess you could use a dried up one in a pinch as a spark wheel though.
>>1054768
they look so cool but functionally are trash. fuel evaporates, tastes like shit if you smoke, flame likes to burn directly up only so its hard to light anything sideways, its bigger and heavier than bics. all around trash, only good thing is you can run it off any flamable liquid you can find. a much better alternative is a waterproof "survival lighter", basically a tiny zippo with a screw on top and a rubber gasket to stop fuel evaporation/water
>>1054768
pretty cool lighter in the 40s.
>>1054768
>>1054783
Or you could just bring a couple of bics and not worry about it.
>>1054795

Have fun losing all of your fuel at the slightest impact or trying to light it in a 1mph breeze
>>1054797

Bics aren't that bad nigger. Ask any smoker. Bics are surprisingly tough and it's easy as shit to put your back to the wind.

Can confirm bics as the most /out/ lighter.
Bics are indestructible, 0.70$, and weigh less than a zippo.

sure sounds like the best out lighter
if you want spend more the 30$ on a lighter get a soto lighter they are at least high quality.
>>1054835

Dont over fill it

A week is a long time, key chain fuel canisters give you about two refills.

Dont go swimming with it

Its a lighter not a lamp, zippo wicks last for years.

even a permanent match is like a 10 times better solution and even more /out/ and less fedora then a zippo

Zippos are trash but I've kinda been curious about those kerosene handwarmers they make.
Zippos are dogshit, constantly leaking fuel.
Carry a bunch of cheapo disposibles and if you want a super duper survival lighter on you then throw in a peanut lighter which is a zippo style but sealed when closed so you dont run out of gas for no reason
>>1055066
> constantly leaking fuel.
Stop overfilling them then you bumbling retard

I mean evaporative leakage of gases that constitute its combustible fuel

> not using a modded BIC
it's less expensive, lighter, you can attach a lanyard to it, works in the cold and doesn't leak fuel in your pocket turning your pants into flammableageddon
>>1054835
Literally none of this is true.
>>1055263
Slightly exaggerated but not that far off.
A zippo is really bad for survival situations. If you had to use a lighter something like a bic would be much better.
t. ex-smoker who used both
IMCO from Austria is best /out/ lighter.
All other lighter is for girly men.
>>1055263
some of it is true
like the price and weight are for sure easy to prove things. if you compare them to bics or whatever.
also zippos still use use gasoline as fuel right? its a solvent it can damage some material or eat least age rapidly.
>>1055279
Is that why they went out of business?
>>1054835
>leaks fuel everywhere
>wick will burn down and be useless
Never had a zippo before?
>>1055331
I have 3 and it's true they dry out fast. Since I quit smoking they were always dry when I need to set something on fire so I don't bother with them anymore and I can't even remember where they are. I wouldn't take one /out/ for more than a weekend, if at all.
Zippos are the less /out/ lighter.
They have much more tendency to fail compared to other lighters.
>>1054990
Thanks, It's a lumintop worm - or something like that.
>>1054768
I feel bad about saying this but these cheap Chinese capsule lighters solve some practical problems that Zippo lighters have, mainly using one feature - sealed structure.
No evaporation of fuel, no water inside the lighter even if submerged in water.
However, while they're great backup lighters, I'd take something more durable/large as a main lighter instead.
Also, what you can learn from BIC users (no matter what lighter model you are using) is that having several lighters is a good thing in case something breaks.
Are there any "outdoor" or tacticool lighters worth getting over just having 2 random small BICs on you?
BICs get the job done, but they do have some issues with wind and you'll hurt your fingers if you have to light something downwards.
And most I have seen so far, not only solve the wind issue, but also a lot of other issues I never knew I was having, all the while costing $10++ and wheighting a ton.
>>1054768
also zippos are wanna be cool, a fashion thing to be seen with.
>>1055591
the capsule lighter lighters are pretty nice for EDC though but i prefer the tank and striker ones. as the tank is sealed completely. i got a fire pea one as company merchandise its sealed pretty good but the inside gets coated a lot.
>>1055624
get a lighter with a "jet flame " or called storm lighter
id get something like this http://www.forestry-suppliers.com/product_pages/Products.asp?mi=41551
bit more expensive but has a cap and seal
or pic related if you want to pimp you bics
The Zippo blu is better. Still not the best torch lighter though.

Fire steel for emergency
Take a tire tube from an old bike, or surgical tubing, cut it into an inch oring, slide it over zippo when not in use. Lasts months then.
Going to try silicone between base and the insert, but the wick still evaps so you have to band the whole fucker anyway.
>>1055591
These still evaporate after a couple months. If you have one, I dare you to try yours if you haven't used it in awhile.
Bics are best but they're prone to losing pressure in the cold weather. In a cold weather survival situation it's best to keep your batteries and lighters in your rectum so they don't freeze.

lighter flints don't work when they're covered in wet shit.
they really don't work when they're covered in wet shit and then taken out and frozen.
>>1056439
you put everything in a lubed condom or rubber glove, you don't just shove it up there with your thumb
>>1056439
>lighter flints don't work when they're covered in wet shit.
You'd be surprised at how well a Zippo lights after being submerged.
Just shake it out and run the wheel against your leg a couple times and it should light right back up.
>>1056432
Not the same anon, but I recently found mine bought and filled somewhere in 2013-2014 and it worked in the first try.
>These still evaporate
Unless the seal is damaged there's no way. Plastic and rubber are not absolutely gas proof, but the amount of gas escaping through the seal is nothing to be worried about.
If left inside a hot car one can argue that increased pressure forces the gas to escape through the seal, however the volume of the capsule is so tiny, that the pressure increases hardly at all.
Like with many seals/gaskets, the right amount of tightness is essential. Overtightening this lighter can make it less gasproof in the long run as it will deform and ruin the seal permanently. Luckily it can be easily replaced.
Problems with this lighter are it's 'made in china' construction, tiny amount of fuel and the fact that the top of the lighter can accidentally come off - that kinda sucks in a survival situation.
>>1054768
Zippos are well made, satisfying tools, but they're not fantastic for /out/ as the fuel evaporates. A way around this is to place a bit of rubber over the seal, but at that point many people will just tell you to use a bic or matches instead.
>>1055843
>lifetime
With a tiny strip of rubber? Can you count your iq on one hand?
>>1056781

DJEEPs are godlike in the lighter world. i use them exclusively now for my lighter needs. matches not withstanding.
