Why is this board filled with buyfaggotry? There are usually a couple very slow threads about going /out/ and the rest is /pol/itics and autistic knifes
12 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Outdoors people are often highly materialistic, which is sort of odd considering the reasons they claim to like the outdoors is to "get back to nature" and "simplicity".

Pick any hobby and you'll find gearheads. People like to buy things, have a deranged sense of brand loyalty and superiority for owning one item over another, and simply like to amass stuff.

I also think it is absurd, but I've seen it enough IRL to understand the psychology. The ultralight gearheads are the weirdest, obsessing over ounces as if they matter (or as if they are about to climb Mt. Everest and their life depends on it).

People are consumers, they'd been taught well. Gotta collect them all.
>>
>>1065560
I assumed most people here are way over geared.

I use an old school bag to go /out/, come at me.
>>
>>1065560
Gear = confidence

They're buying confidence.

I know, I know, it's pathetic.

/out/ Meta Thread
We are allowed one meta thread per board to discuss board culture and things we hope to see from our 4chan sponsored safe space.
What do you anons think would make the board a better place?
For me, I would like to see more support of people trying to live /out/. It seems every time someone asks how to live outside they are either directed to the homeless thread or just plain told they will die. I think that is ridiculous. We love the outdoors and there is no argument behind, "lol ull die fgt." We should support anyone trying to live a more /out/ lifestyle, whether that means going on weekend hikes or trying to make a whole life of it. Why in the world are the only folks around here who are trying to help these people the homeless? It seems everyone has 10 reasons why NOT to live outside and the only people who are supporting this idea are bums. What the fuck. There would also be benefit in decreasing shitposts. Whether or not you believe you're clever should not influence the rest of us. Many people try and help but are immediately dissuaded due to shitposts. Why, as a board, do we shitpost so much? What motivates you guys to throw negativity all over the place?
>hunting
Is it /k/ or /out/? Somewhere in between?
>bushcraft
I for one am pretty saddened that we can't talk about building things innawoods without some faggot coming in and posting 'batony chop chop babby' bullshit and trying to derail the whole thread. Why do we shit on /out/ activities that we all supposedly love?

What would YOU like to see from /out/? Am I just a huge faggot? Hope to hear from you anons

/k/ is pretty terrible. I think the hunting threads are better off here. The venison is never as good when you take the deer with an RPG.

But we should send the majority of knoife threads to /k/ because that board is better at hosting that specific type of 'tism.

And the hobo fegs, if's like black people. The average poster wouldn't hate you quite so much if your community wasn't full of so many scumbags.

I also think hunting can be a lot more about /out/ than /k/. Like you said. We aren't blasting deer with 30rds of RIP ammo out of our FALs and SBRs.
Knife threads are relevant here as well but with the amount of meme bullshit that we deal with /k/ is definitely the better host for that. It seems like most people just want to post pocket jewelry anyway, and the edge geometry fags trigger me so hard. Also gibs me $12 orange kershaw pls.
I see what you mean about the bums, but our resident ones seem like pretty good people, unless you measure what makes a good person by the content of their bank accounts. I think they deserve better than they get. But at the same time I never post in the homeless thread or come to bat for them so I suppose I'm part of that problem.
>>
>>1064886
>What would YOU like to see from /out/?
I second decreased shitposting, especially from the r9k/mgtow faggots (and enough with the unnecessary /pol/posting, too). Other than that, I think this is a comfy place to hang out. I do like the level of helpfulness I find here and on /diy/.

Why does the government waste valuable resources putting out forest fires? Don't they know trees grow back?
>but muh house might catch fire too
Maybe if you didn't build your house right next to a bunch of trees, that wouldn't be a problem.

Trolling aside, forest fire is one way of nature regulating the forest. Forest in north america need to get burn down every now and then for forest rejuvenation to occur and artificially suppressing these natural cycle will only bite us back in the ass by way of forest fire of several magnitude bigger than when they are allowed to consume the forest naturally
>>
>>1064456
If people took care of deadfall and picked up sticks and shit there wouldn't be as many fires.
>>
>>1064460

What part of the country are you in? Make a plan to get somewhere you can live outside during winter, bums freeze to death all the time.
Get to a large town in a warm state and stand outside a Home Depot. If you're a white guy and don't look creepy as fuck you'll get hired over Mexicans all day (white people don't like having brown people see where they live). Be very vague if people ask about your life, don't creep them out.
If all else fails, panhandle. You can probably make $200-400/day in a large town, which comes out to $75K-$150K tax free.
Whatever you do, don't consider robbery. Everyone I know CCs and I won't hesitate to blast your guts open if you come at me.

Good Luck!

I hate sunburns more than anything, and the feeling of the sun on my skin, even with sunscreen, makes me feel like Im going to wake up to lobster skin the next day.

I live in colorado and love hiking though. Normally I wear long sleeve clothing and get sweating and gross, but whatever.

Are there light colored ponchos for hiking I could wear to covere my arms, neck and head? Ive looked all over the internet and the most I can find is useless fashion for women.

((Mr. Supertramp unrelated))
I'm going to be living in a van for the next year doing consultant work, and I have a very limited budget. What, in your opinion, are the most essential items someone new to "vanlife" would most likely never think of? Keep in mind I'll be in mostly warmer climates.

Here's a list of what I've considered already, feel free to lmk if any of them are nonessential:
-Cooler
-Van repair manual
-Electric kettle
-Hotplate
-Wifi system (antenna, booster, etc)
-Solar system (2 100W panels, 2 cheap batteries, remote)
-Thermos
-Sleeping bag
-Basic medical supplies
-Car jack
-Spare tire
-Reflectix
-12 volt fan
-Carbon monoxide alarm
-Fire extinguisher
-Tent (just in case)
-Coleman solar shower
-Thule box and/or roof rack for extra storage
etc...

I didn't include monthly/weekly expenses because I don't want to make this post too long. However if you have any ideas of expenses I might have forgotten abt feel free to tell me.

Tent is not optional nor for emergencies only. If you plan to live IN your can you have already lost, you must find ways to live OUT of your can.

I vandwelled for half a year and even with autistic hygiene and a cooler climates, the... smell of living in a can became permanent until I started sleeping outside as much as possible and airing my shit out. You fart so much during sleeping that that alone can stink shit up. Try and cook outside to
