Any dutch /out/ists know any worthwhile hikes? I live in the western part (Delft) since recently starting university there. I haven't been able to find any worthwhile hike spots or nature in general though any dutchfags that can help me out recommend locations/stuff to do?

Mate, you are a dutchfag. There is no nature left, only cultured land. Try to enjoy the cracks between man made structures and whatever grows in it.

You can however just jump into a train to Germany, Hannover. Then from there to Osterode. Then by foot through the Harz national park on the Hexensteig. It's 5 days of hiking and totally worth it.
>>
>>1065532
Try the Schoorlse duinen mate. Highest dunes in the low lands, and pretty pretty in my opinion. Don't expect to have the area all to yourself however, and prepare to say hi to a shitload of grumpy old couples on bikes.

I once did some easy hiking and wildcamping there. There's plenty of places to hide a tent and after dinertime you'll pretty much have the area to yourself. If it hasn't been too dry, building a campfire shouldn't get you in any trouble either if you're smart about it.

Good question by the way. Finding nice area's in our shitty delta can be a challenge, especially in the western randstad area. I'm from Delft as well by the way ^^
>>
Although >>1065550 has a point, there are some things you can do.

THe best is to take the 3-4 hour drive to the German Eifel. If you are looking for multiday hikes, the 'Wildnis Trail' and the 'Eifelsteig' are pretty good. Otherwise, you can find a place to stay for pretty cheap and just do day hikes.

The nearest thing that can pass for a forest in the Netherlands is probably starting at Ziest and then going eastwards. There will be some pretty nice areas, but they'll be small and you'll meet plenty of people.

If you're looking for a multiday trail in the Netherlands, go do the 'Pieterpad' or bits of it.

Also, there is the Biesbosch, but it's mostly insects and swamp. Nice to rent a small boat though.

I've got it in my head to hike the Ozark Highlands Trail. 165 miles through some beautiful Arkansas hills. Anybody ever hiked any part of this?

Join the Association if you REALLY want to learn more. I plan on joining soon. The section by White Rock is beautiful, by the way
Also, if you live in or near the Fayetteville area, Uncle Sam's and Pack Rat are your go-to places

A rumor through the grapevine says that they plan to link the OHT with the OT but it's been in planning for a long while now and I wonder if it'll ever happen

Depends on what is considered "exotic". I live in Florida and enjoy catching tarpon and barracuda

Exotic is a term for invasive species that people don't dislike. Like peacock bass in Florida.

Can anyone give me some good suggestions for a new pair of boots? They would be mainly used for route marching, long range patrolling, hill walking and general ground related shit. Im in Europe so water proofing is a must since alot of the terrain in question is boggy as fuck, and ankle support because boggy hills suck cock. Also they preferably have to be black unfortunately. Thanks in advance /out/.

What's a fair market rental price for a single kayak for a day out on the water? The local kayak place is charging $45. I could fucking go to Cedar Point for that price

How much do you pay to rent a kayak anons?
9 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Is that for all day? On a lake? The ocean? A river? Do they pick you back up? What does it include?
>>
>>1065200
4 hours on the lake but the lake connects to the river so you can go down the river if you want.

They don't pick you up. Just give you the kayak.
>>
if i need to rent one it's $30-35/person for all day in the monterey bay. but i have friends with kayaks, so i can usually borrow one for free.

>Troy James Knapp spent years living in the wild lands of Utah, eating small game, avoiding people and earning his nickname “Mountain Man.”

>For seven years, the lone outlaw who roamed the vast wilderness of southern Utah was more myth than man. He left clues of his existence but not much more. He was fast and fit, could cover 20 miles a day in rough terrain, and was savvy in the art of evasion, stepping on saplings to avoid leaving tracks. He snared squirrels with traps made from shoelaces in the summer and endured subzero temperatures in winter, traversing deep snow at elevations of more than 10,000 feet. He had survived some of the coldest winters on record living off the land – and off supplies he stole from cabins in his mountains.

>He would go from home to home, tapping a quarter-size hole in a windowpane and unfastening the latch. He would eat all the food he could find, burn all the firewood, and then move on. He hit dozens of cabins across the state, riffling through the cupboards, taking batteries, binoculars, canned goods, and camouflaged clothing – anything that would keep him alive, moving, and out of sight. He stole all the shoes he could, too, from boots to sneakers to sandals, so his tracks would be harder to follow. Locals called him the Mountain Man, and said he was like a cougar – rarely seen, but always watching.

>In 2009, rangers found two camps Knapp had apparently abandoned in Iron County, stocked with an arsenal of 19 guns (and a copy ofInto the Wild). He'd vaguely threatened his pursuers in notes he left in burglarized cabins: "Hey, sheriff, fuck you!" one read

>Knapp, 46, pleaded guilty Monday to federal weapon and multiple state burglary charges in an agreement that will put him in federal prison, probably until the end of 2024.

Is it possible to make a bunker two stories deep without risking too much?
I'll be building a greenhouse (about 33x16 ft / 10x5m) and I want to have at least one room under it, like a wine cellar.
Could I just dig deeper before constructing the whole thing and make a second room directly under the wine cellar, both having about the same size as the greenhouse?
I know there's quite a lot of people here that have experience with building such things so I'd like to hear about any problems I might face in general as well.

you just need crabmeat to go with it.

I'm thinking about storing 5 years worth of rice and beans in buckets in various locations around town, just in case I ever have a mental breakdown and decide to stop being a wage cuck.

I can get 50 lbs of rice for around $15. I was reading mylar bags and oxygen absorbers are the way to go.I was going to do that, then double wrap it in a regular trash bag, and then throw it in a hardware store bucket and bury them

I'm planning on making a full-head mask for when I go /out/ and need advice on the style. I was thinking African, but I want a mask that'll spook anyone that sees me in it while I'm innawoods.

The mask part will be light wood and it will have a lot of raffia/plant fibers attached to cover the rest of my head and neck from the swarms of fucking mosquitos and ticks without overheating me while I'm /out/.

I live in the South and bug spray just doesn't fully work because of how fucking insect-infested it is here. Also I just feel more comfortable wearing masks because I'm a huge autism.

This is the thread to discuss anything relating to scouting, more particularly, the National Jamboree, which just kicked off Wednesday.

Now before I'm banned, I will say that I am over the age of 18, and staffing this event.

Are any anons here going to Jambo/are here? What are your thoughts/expectations?
I hear Trump is supposed to be here some time this week or next week.

If you're not participating in Jambo, why not share a scouting story or two if you were in scouts?

BSA 2013 Jamboree logo.jpg

Not going to be in attendance this time, but I was at the 2010 jamboree, and was my troop's SPL at the 2013 Jamboree:

>no more based Springbar tents; everything is provided by the Jamboree itself
>we did gets cots that time instead of the sleeping pads we used in 2010, though
>shotgun was fun, in large part because of the expansive views on the far side
>someone walked into our camp and stole the confederate flag pin from Gettysburg off my hat while I was making sure we had dinner, reee
>there were some woodcraft / historical areas on top of Garden Ground Mountain; the hike was well worth it
>the OA's fetishization of Indians is still weird
>we befriended some scouts from Egypt up there
>the wait for the ziplines was very long given how little time you actually spend on them
>the heavy military presence balances out increasing influence of soccer moms in the BSA
>macho things like the SEAL challenge are good for teenage boys
>constant rain and poor drainage turned our campsite into a mud wallow
>we covered it with boxes from the commissary so it wasn't an issue
>hometown news reporters or whatever get to take flights in military helicopters, should've done that

I wish we had more meaningful interaction with scouts from other troops, honestly. Waiting for the shower together or taking an easy merit badge class doesn't count. An overnight trek of some sort could easily be fit into the jamboree.

I got ripped off way more on patch trading in 2010, but I was also much younger. My only other really striking memories of 2010:
>getting stood up by Obama
>huddling with our duffel bags in the commissary after a severe weather warning on the last day
>hoping the bus arrives soon as we try to sleep, ignoring the small river pouring in under our mound of bags
>it rains a lot in the East

I'm jealous of you, getting a speech not only from a sitting President, but from the God-Emperor himself. Will a Trump patch be issued? I may have to haunt ebay for the next few weeks if so.

Also, 2013 especially felt too electronics-heavy for a scouting event. I'm all for STEM engagement; I study engineering these days. My scoutmaster and I also heavily discouraged phone use, and I believe this was the correct policy. Do the charging stations set the wrong tone? Kids these days...
>>
>>1064069
As staff you pretty much need your phone for updates from your station, but during scouts I could get by for like 3/4 of a week turning off my phone and turning it back on when I wanted to call my mom.

Honestly, I just wish it was more subtle. I get that they're accepting of technology, but scouts wasn't really founded on the principles of phone use.

Sup, getting kicked out at the end of the month. Planning on getting something like this and setting up camp innawoods. I got about $100 saved what should I do to survive. I've been camping a few times so I know the basics but is getting food easy?

If you don't have the gumption to get a job or save money or maintain personal connections what makes you think you have the gumption to live in the woods and burn upwards of 4000 calories per day trekking 20+ miles per day and laboring 16 hours a day, regardless of weather?
>>
>>1063905
>20 miles

Is that how far from the tent the food is? No bully I'm just wondering if this is doable and a good plan.
>>
OP, do you have a bike? You could travel on a bike (Use your $100ish to buy used panniers and cheap supplies) looking for odd jobs to do for cash. Easy 100 miles a day instead of harsh, expensive trekking for maybe 20 miles a day.
Innawoods has no access to money, restrictions on how long you can camp, and little access to food unless you're hunting and fishing (expensive)
Buy beans and rice and you can survive off of that for dollars a day.
