Anyone have experience with these things?
It is AFAIK basically (correct me if I am wrong) a big rainproof and windproof poncho.
I have the Original version.
It's a tarp (fjellduk = mountain tarp) that is wind and water proof. It has aluminium on one side so it reflects heat and can be used as a survival blanket. There are also zippers on the side and grommets so you can configure it in different ways and use it for different things. It also has holes for your arms so you can use it as a poncho. Personally I don't use it as poncho, I normally use it either as blanket or as tarp, but it's a pretty versatile item that can be used for many things.
There are more expensive versions than the Original, they have insulation and are bigger and warmer. Some of them can even be used as sleeping bags if it's not very cold.

And I forgot to mention, the tarp come with two separate sleeves that you can use when wearing it as a poncho. The sleeves are not attached to the tarp itself.
What are these lines in the water after it rains on a lake?
It's water, duh.

my guess is conflicting salinities but im not a scientist

ripple suppression or block relative to the frequency and wavelength of the ripples themselves, which is a factor of precipitation rate.
Essentially, water droplets create ripples that either re-enforce or cancel out the waveform on the water surface.at certain frequencies (rate of rainfall) The patterns occur as differing waveforms are created in different areas according to differences in the rate of rainfall across the lake.
Hope that makes sense, I'm tired,
Hey /out/ so im going fishing this week at north carolina at carolina beach but there is the sea but also a pond nearby with catfish and carp and other fish (dont really know what else) so would would be a good rig for both fishing in the ocean and freshwater
I like to hike a lot and i dont want to own too many pairs oft Boots. I want Thema to be everyday wearable and yet stand up to walking everyday. For Winter and autumn i have settled for Timberlands. Now i am looking for high shafted fast drying well aerated Boots that are everyday wearable and could be worn in the tropics. Suggestions highly welcome.
>>1053425
Where in the tropics? Someplace wet or someplace dry or someplace with lots of elevation?
I always wanted to go to the brazilian rainforest and i hike a lot in the Rain. I dont need shoes that keep dry but ones that dry very fast and are yet more stable than Sandals.
>>1053647
Does anyone know a Boot, best one available online, that fits my needs?
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I want to start kayaking more seriously but I have no clue where to start. I know the basics and I am pretty good at using the kayak but I am struggling to know where the nice places are and whether to do it in a populated area or a secluded.

Body boarding?
>>1052659
yes. its about as stupid and uncomfortable as you'd imagine it to be.
>>1052668
Personally I imagine it to be 6 parts stupid and 4 parts uncomfortable. Just a guess.
Hey /out/, Oregon here and I'm making plans for the solar eclipse next month. Does anyone have any recommendations on eclipse viewing glasses, or are they pretty much all the same?
I was at some touristy shop on the coast a few days ago and bought a tshirt that came with a cheap cardboard pair and I can comfortably stare at the sun with those, and I wonder if that's good enough?
Do you guys have any recommendations?
I debated whether this might be better posted on /sci/ but figured I'd try here first. Checked the catalog and didn't see anyone talking about the eclipse either, so eclipse thread?
>>1052189
You want ones that block UV too or your eyes will be wide open for massive UV flux while you shade the visible light
I haven't been hiking seriously in almost 10 years and I'm looking to get back into it - mostly because this place made me nostalgic.
Does anyone here have any recommendations for some entry level binoculars? Mostly for bird watching.
I'll also be posting my favorite hiking spots from back in the day - all of them from Romania.
Pic is Ceahlau Mountain.
I also want to use the binoculars for trips to the Danube Delta.
shame nobody replying op I'd like to hear about some binoculars/telescopes too

Depends on the price range, but generally speaking Kite has some of the best bang for your buck ratios. Recently got to use a basic Olympus 10x25, which was surprisingly decent.
Also, post more pictures.
Hey
Going on a hiking trip in the german / french boarder area next week.
We're gonna start our trip at Feiburg im Breisgau and porbabs stay one night before we head on and enjoy the city I guess.
Any trails you could recommend? We could ride a bit by train to the closest cities p.e. Straßbourg / Basel but general aim is to stroll by foot and camp.
Maybe so. has any experiences with the frech national parcs close by: Parc naturel régional des Ballons des Vosges and Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord
Thanks in advance
oh and packing tips / gear list would be highly appreciated. Last summer i went hiking with 20kg like a retard and had a muscle strain after like 3 or 4 days.
going moderatly camping (no wildcamping in germanland sadly anyone knows about the french legal situation on wildcamping / bonfires?) so no survival gear needed.
We're two people heading out for 5 days
Hey /out/, here's my attempt at batoning

Any Europeans here who have experience with RevolutionRace pants? They seem to be decent for the price.
Anybody who wears camo for anything other than hunting and military use are cringy as fuck. Sans children of course.
>>1062307
A whole camo outfit is cringy.
But one camo item is fine. Don't be a faggoted homo.
>>1062317
Yurop here and I think camo is gay. Just wear old jeans.
None of my mates like camping at all and I don't live close to woodlands or anything like that, how do you meet people to go /out/ with.
>>1061451
I think it's hard to go into the woods and make friends, but just try making an effort to meet new people and have as many genuine connections as you can. Once you make a bunch of new buddies, at least one of them is bound to be an outdoorsman. If not, you still have more friends than you did before, so it's a win-win.
The answer is LARP.
>Wanting Friends
Friends make you weak anon.
Im planning on walking from the southernmost point to the northernmost point of the north island.
i intend to do this solo and with no assistance from settlements apart from resupplying food if needed.

You will die
Gain actual hiking and wilderness experience before setting unrealistic goals

This thread again? It feels like there's 1 or 2 anons just trying to get actual hikers' jimmies rustled by posting 'LE XD I AM GONNA WALK FROM USA TO RUSSIA' type threads
