So, a guy in a forum searches for someone to design a logo for a website he's making.
He says there will be payment _if_ your logo is selected and payment (without any mention of intended amount) will be made via PayPal friends.
Would you do it?

I am working as a graphic designer in a rural town for a market chain, but I want to move to a big city soon to work for an agency full-time.

What is the best way to go about this? Are there some good, practical advice as to how to find and get the job in an agency, as a graphic designer?

Please note I am 100% serious here with this plan, so I appreciate any thoughtful or on point replies.

You get a great portfolio going. You start looking at job listings, and apply for them. There's really not some secret to it.

Don't set your target on a big agency, unless your work can compete with people already working there.

And FWIW - if that image in your OP is your work... I don't think you're going to get many interviews. Lens flares like that are going to land your resume into the "ignore" file.

Do you guys think its tacky or unprofessional to use a fake/''artist name'' when being a designer? Or even having more of a business style name, like ''BlahBlahBlah Design''. Main reason i'm asking is because I've started to grow a bit more and get more big name work while using a name like that. Main reason i don't use my real name is because it's shit and just doesn't look good in any types of logos or portfolio design. Probably a super stupid question and reason, but I respect what some of the people on this board think. Other than that, this can be a general personal branding thread I guess.

I used to do this until I switched back to my name because it was cringy. I mean you can do it, but just make sure the presentation and quality of your design work can greatly outweigh that cringy brand.
>>
>>303634
i think it depends of the name, i wouldn't worry that much tho, there's some guys with kinda lame names like 'mrchugchug' 'hydro74' 'Shewa06' that seem to have worked with pretty big brands
>>
>>303635
Yeah, I think I can still keep it at a semi okay level, at least not sounding too childish and stupid.

>>303638
I'm stuck between a couple options. One of which was ''Paradise Design'' or something of that nature. (Paradise sounds a bit similar to my last name, kind of.) Does that sound like it wouldn't really work or seem off putting?

I do quite a few album covers/flyers/posters etc -use a combination of traditional drawing, digital painting, collage and photomanipulation.

I'll post a few

I'm currently in school for graphic design and im REALLY hating digital design. I feel like it's so easy and impersonal, I really like getting my hands in it and pasting and cutting and measuring, but I don't know how to make it a practice of mine in such a digitally dominated age. How many of you feel the same? How many of you worked in the era before computers? I'm trying to find someone I can learn from but i'm not having any success

Did you get to talk about the salary?

Ok here is a little tip: Start beeing a little more dominant and aggressive (all while not beeing to egoistic).
I'm in HR in a big electronics company and I interview designers and media guys al the time. 60% of the people I meet are submissive and introvert as fuck. They don't hold eyecontact, dodge critical questions and are generally just awkward as fuck. The other 40% are these new age hipsters who always wanted to do "something with media" when they grew up. They come to the interview in shorts, shirts and jewelry in their fucking beard while they wear big framed non pescription glasses to look vintage. These people don't care about the company, they just want a paying contract, but as HR I need to hire people who want to work for the company and not just get paid by it.

Be open, friendly, extrovert, aggresive in tactic. After the first interview demand that you show them your work (maybe even in person). It is not that other designers have better work than you, it that they are more professional and convincing. Don't take a no for an answer.

Is there a trick for negative space logos?
16 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
probably
>>
Sure there is. Just construct the shape with a different color from the rest of the logo, then when you're satisfied with the result you just cut it out. Those images are very simple examples of that and you could easily mentally imagine every shape just being a different color rather than just negative space and you can quickly see how easy it is to make them.

That tooth logo would put me off completely. I don't want to associate a drill with my teeth.

What madness drives a company to replace a perfectly good logo with an ugly one?
19 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>

Seems fine, the new one.
The lock would have been more appropriate but whatever. Its overused by now, not to mention long flat style shadows were a seasonal trend.

NEVER use trends in designwork, especially not logos...

On top of all that the lock is ugly. Prefer the new one.
>>
>>302652
Same here, the new one is way better.
>>
I think both aren't particularly good
The first one is unimaginative and the second one doesn't scale and is too generic anyway

sad!
