Any pile drivers here?

I am starting an apprenticeship in a couple weeks. Anything I need to know? I was told to bring a striker and a pliers. Anything else I should bring?

>I'm starting as an apprentice xxxxxxxx, what should I bring?
This is, has always, and will always be the question you should be asking the person who said 'you're hired.'

I can't think of anything more important to ask said person. Not asking this implies that you're not going to be ready. Asking a Vietnamese drawing forum what you need to be ready is retarded, and we cannot give you an answer. For all I know, you just got hired to fuck a pile of men. I would recommend condoms and lube.

If you're doing anything that is dangerous, bring basic PPE and the things they did specify.

There was a nothing more we can tell you.

Any advice on how to best paint the wall near these fireplace bricks?

Should I just get a really small brush? Or is there a better way to do this

I will reply with a closeup photo.

essentially, how to paint into a crack without touching one side

no real good way to do this unless u remove the bricks

u can tape off the bricks side and use a small brush and be careful about it and use a brush and do dipping motions pushing into it
>>
>>1122930
My only guess would be getting some broad masking tape and sliding it in behind/folding it around the edge of the brickwork, then use a flat brush to get in as deep as you can.

I bought a house recently that has a concrete floored basement that has apparently never been cleaned. I am slowly mopping the shit out of it and cleaning it apply to apply some epoxy floor coating to keep it easier to clean.

I bought the 1 part Behr epoxy for it back in July when I did my mudroom, but its been taking so long to clean the basement floor I haven't gotten around to it yet. How long can I expect the epoxy to stay good and usable in the cans so it will still adhere?

I am also going to use white brick water proofing paint on the block walls. How hard should I try to clean the walls before using it?

Pressure wash it like a driveway.

If no pressure washer, scrub with a broom and Tri-Sodium Phosphate (SugarSoap)
>>
>>1122843
I do have a power washer I use outside, but I am not really sure I want to use it in the basement. There is a floor drain but I feel like that would put out way too much water too fast and make a mess.

I did scrub a wall in the mudroom with TSP before doing it and it seems to adhere fine, but scrubbing all the walls in the basement will take forever and I'm not sure its enough difference to be worth the effort.
>>
I do epoxy flooring professionally... shelf life depends on the product... being that I mainly use industrial grade stuff it tends to last longer pre mixing.... but in my opinion you should always grind the floor before applying... pressure washing won't get rid of grease and oils on the concrete... rent a grinder with a a vac attachment or use a floor scrubber with stones then vacuum up the dust .. after all is clean... mix in a 5 gal bucket .. spread with a squeegee and roll smooth

I am building a pulsed Nd:YAG laser for holography and need a power supply for the flashlamps. Do I really have to build my own circuit? It seems like there should be something ready-made to flash the lights for <1ms. Maybe I just don't know what to Google for?

Please ignore if you don't know anything about lasers except what you found on Wikipedia after reading this post.

Does it need to be series triggered?

If your flash lamp has a trigger wire on the tube like a bog standard flashlamp, use a bog standard flashlamp power supply.

That's awesome, thanks! It doesn't have a trigger wire, but is meant to be parallel triggered.
>>
>>1122473
By 'building a YAG laser' I assume you mean you found an already assembled chassis without a power supply. I work with YAG lasers all the time in a research setting, and the internal optics are pretty well tuned. If you only have a YAG crystal and a dream, then you have bigger problems than the power supply. Anyway, I hate to say it on /diy/ but your best bet may be to call around and see if a dealer has an old power supply for cheap. Also, does it have to be a YAG laser? There are tons of cheap diodes out there that can make a nice beam, in a variety of colors, with plenty of power, if you just clean up the eliptical beam first. The power supply to drive one of those is just an Lm317 and a couple of resistors; no high voltage flash lamp required.

Do you have green sensitive holographic film? I've only ever used red and 3 color. Do you have the other optics to set it up? You will definitely need a spatial filter to clean the beam up, and first surface mirrors really help for beam steering.

This wrench was found in an intersection. By the looks of it the original handle snapped off. So the unfortunate owner hammered a steel pipe over it. Then he drilled holes in the end for hanging. It is a Rigid by the way.

>>

Paul Allen is correct. That's a cheater bar. They are good ways to bend or break your tool. People who don't have the correct big ass wrench with long ass handle use cheater bars. Just keep in mind that if the pipe doesn't bend of break first, it can bend of break your tool. Use a hammer and a blowtorch if something is that stubborn.

im about to lay tile through my house, do i actually need a crack isolation membrane or does that only matter in certain climates /materials? the tiles im laying are quite long (2.4m) so i dont want cracks
24 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>1122120
I would assume the tile manufacturer has info on this on the box, a factsheet or online. Or ask the retailer.
>>
>>1122120
Important question is how old is the house? Followed by how stable is the subfloor?

Basically if the house is 15 - 20 yo and had time to settle and has visible signs of settling I'd say no, you don't need the membrane. If it is still settling then yes.

Hey /diy/,
after watching a video on ram pumps I've decided to build my own. Anyone built one of these before? What I'm not sure about is the check valve, in my guide it calls for two brass swing check valves but I've been reading online that these will wear out after a year if not sooner, would stainless steel be a better option to extend the life? I could also just go for an inline valve or even a cheap pvc valve if it's just going to break anyway.

>>
>>1121861
Are you using water in the system?

Yes they will wear out, but you should get a decent lifespan from brass. Stainless Steel will probably be better, but more expensive.

Generally it is a rubber seal that wears first in swing check valves, not the metal body.

The rubber seal can usually can be replaced easily.

I have no idea what a ram pump is though?
>>
>>1121861
If you're building a ramp pump like that, it's going to have to come apart periodically for cleaning and maintenance anyway. A yearly disassembly really isn't that often I would just use the brass ones and keep an eye out for if it becomes ineffective.

How do I fix this permanently without replacing the handle?

I shoved as much 2 ton epoxy into the crack as I could but I doubt it will hold for long.
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1120382
if you hadn't done the epoxy you could have taken it off and used wood glue which is stronger than the wood itself
>>
>>1120382
Take it off. Spread it open a little more. Use "Titebond III" in the crack. Clamp it shut until dried.

>asking what to do AFTER you've done something

Hopefully, you haven't epoxied it permanently to the metal.
>>
>>1120392
I really wouldn't have been able to take it off without fucking shit up..

The end is held on by peening the tang over the end cap. The only way of getting the wood off is either by heating the end until its red hot (and burning all the wood around it it) then prying the cap off, or by chiseling off the handles completely.

I'm looking to replace my girlfriend's faucet. I'm pretty positive I can handle it, but I want to double check on something.

These fittings just screw on with a bit of plumbers tape around the threads, right? I shouldn't need to use a torch and solder?

What country is this? Not really US standard stuff...
Those almost look like oversized 3/8ths compression, and if it's compression than tape will make it leak.

I have no idea if there even is a proper board for this, but would anyone know how I could get hard, strong, nearly pure gold that's minimally doped with some other element. Like 95%+ pure gold, but just enough of something else that it won't be malleable. Brittle would even be okay, though not best. Maybe monocrystalline gold??

Pawn shops? Jewelers?

You could literally make it yourself from pure gold, copper, and silver.

That doesn't sound very firm. Also every alloy of these I've seen doesn't look like gold.
>>

Practically all gold jewelry contains at least 1/3 of something else than gold. Are you saying gold jewelry does not look like gold?

I made a deck out of marijuana stems and zipties with 3 inch bolts. It probably took 8 hours. I live in alaska so this is legal. Anybody got tips on how i could make a veneer or shape a kicktail or general improvments or some free ideas for another skateproject?
