The bath, vanity and bidet in the 20s/30s bathroom I'm working on all connect to the same drain, which seems to be almost completely clogged.
I figure I might have to clean the plumbing trap (pic related). Now I only just realized what this is (and I might be wrong). It's recessed into the bathroom's tile floor.
Research indicates this might be an old style lead plumbing trap, which was cast into place using molten lead? Would I be right in assuming that top part has treads on it, and that the lead surrounding it has formed around those? Do you think this cap would come off, allowing me to clean inside the trap?
Thanks!
For scale, the bottom diameter is 3,1" and the "cap" is about 1,35" (just enough for a pair of tweezers to go through?)
yep that's a screw bung. bet ya the threads are galled.
you can see the chisel marks around the rim from previous times unscrewing was attempted.
a pipe wrench won't grip very well on that thin rim of brass. you might end up having to drill holes for a pin wrench. then put a cheater pipe on the pin wrench. then beat on the cheater pipe with a hammer.
brass-on-brass threads are a cunt.

Get a pipe wrench and a dremel with a cutting disc. Slice off two flat section of the sides of the top of the screw and use the wrench on it.
A machine i bought for my company came packed in a big, strong, very well built wooden box. Those are the dimensions:
148" * 81" * 88" W*L*H
3.75 * 2.05 * 2.25 meters.
I dont want to just through it away. Can any of you help or share some ideas on what can be done with it??
Well for one, you can throw it away...
>>1117863
How about live in it
>>1117863
Use it as a workshed, cut a doorway and slap some hinges on it, strap up some old fluorescent rails in the roof and screw some outlets to the sides.
At least that's what I'd do. Probably paint it, maybe clad it in some sort of weatherproofing plastic, refugee camp shanty style until I could afford to expand it or put plank siding on it.
So something that I've always wanted to do is build roads that are fun to drive on. Fun roads would require elevation, turns, lookouts and so on.
Is it possible to build your own hill? As in own property and ship lots of earth to your land and build on it? Would the county shut me down?
I know it can be done
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_River_Floodway
pls contractors and builders advise
Why not build a go cart raceway?
Its fun as hell and educational for kids.
I keep thinking schools need to send kids to go cart places before they learn to drive.
Kinda like riding a pony before you ride a horse
It's possible with time and dedication. Local authorities might be pissed.
It would be cheaper to buy a hill.
It is possible to build your own hill and your own roads so long as it is on private property.
Roads that are really curvy and "fun to drive" tend to be less safe and don't meet state/local/federal design standards, so they aren't built like that these days.
Building your own road would be insanely expensive though. Embankment construction alone of that caliber requires large equipment to move as well as a cut section to provide your fill material. Don't forget you need to get it compacted well so that it doesn't just wash away, and then eventually stabilize the slopes.
Next is the construction of the actual surface, a dirt surface would be cheapest and can just be bladed. A blade, or motorgrader is a very challenging piece of equipment to use to have it come out good. This would also apply if you made an aggregate path.
Asphalt pavement or concrete would get expensive quickly, to the tune of about a million per mile.
I can provide a lot more information as I'm a construction engineer who builds highways for a living. Unless you have significant resources though, the cost of a project like this would be monumental for a single individual.
my dog just died, and i want a special way to remember him. im hoping to dress him up rasta style, sitting on his hind quarters giving a thumbs up. how would i position him.
>>1117654
Dogs don't have thumbs, bro.
>>1117657
they have higher up digits on there forearms that vaguely resemble thumbs.
>>1117654
Just don't fuck it up as badly as I did...
Dat ain't Franky Boy.. I don't even know who that is, man.
Anyone know of any software/resources for teaching this?
Books.
on a side note how old is too old to become an apprentice?
>>1117525
What's his name again?
is there is any magnet I can purchase, melt, and reshape, to hold its magnetic charge?
>>1117517
you buy magnetic materials, shape them, then magnetize them permanently with an electromaget
>melt
no
, unless its like a ferrous plastic
or you can make a 2 part epoxy using metal shavings/powder
heat kills magnet
fuckin miracles
building my first computer. Everything fucking fits together except the front panel of the Raidmax Vortex V4 and the AF-120 screws. The screws are too big for the holes in the case and i really didn't want to rape the case's structure to get it to fit.
Is there anything i can do? or do i HAVE to get an electric screwdriver and widen the hole and force the screws in? any help is appreciated, since /g/ hasn't helped at all.
I really want to get this shit done quickly since this is the last thing to do before i actually turn the computer on.
So the AF 120 is a Corsair fan I assume?
And you want to mount it to the front of your case?
I've always found these to be good (pic related).
If you want to do it properly then find out what size screws you have and find out what thread pitch they have then drill and tap the hole.
>>1117453
In the mean time, just use tie wraps.
>>1117456
You see, that's another issue. The cable ties are too thick to pass through the hole gap in the front case. I try to ply it wider using a screwdriver (not the electric one, dont have one). And then try to see if the screws get in. Which they kinda do, but i dont have the space to align them so they end up inclined. I might buy those rubber mounts tho.
Hello!
My end goal is to be able to control my A/C (a Panasonic unit) from my RPi Zero.
I'm attempting to get the IR Transmitter wired as per Figure 2 here - http://www.raspberry-pi-geek.com/Archive/2015/10/Raspberry-Pi-IR-remote - however have had no success in seeing it lit. However, if I connect the IR LED to GPIO 14 and ground, I see it light up (via my camera). I should note that when I do this, it is permanently illuminated.
Am I doing something wrong, is the diagram incorrect? I am using a BC547 NPN transistor, and I believe I have the correct resistors.
Post your code and circuit.
>>1117180
Use that example 1-second blink script with an LED directly to the GPIO pin to figure out if it's bad circuit or bad software.
Test the circuit by disconnecting the green wire from the gpio, and hooking it to V+ (3.3V or red wire)
The IRLED should turn on.
I made a thread some time ago about a lifting boom for my excavator. Now there was an structural engineer AMA here a moment ago but this one didn't finish in time.
I have gotten this far in my project, the first part of the boom is welded to the attachment plate. Now I wonder if there is any way of calculating the approximate lifting capacity of the boom in its current state. The boom is approximately 2m long.
The boom is made out of 8mm steel and is 20cm x 14cm
There are four 10mm steel plates supporting it.
I will make some additional supports like pic related but as I'm not welding these myself I need to have my friend over. He is a welder, like 40h/week welder. Like that I can trust that the welds will be proper. The struts will be probably something around 10mm or more flat stock.
Any ideas about the strength of a thing like this? It has three extensions which of two are hydraulic but this first will be the one that will do the heavy lifting. Eventually this whole thing will dredge my shoreline. But that is after the house is finished.
Well, the heavy rains here in Northern California have destroyed my dome. Any ideas on what I should build next? Should I just rebuild the dome?

Reminder that Wayne Lambright is a hobo con artist parasitizing the people around him and especially the elderly. Wayne Lambright was 5 months behind on the rent for his mobile home before the owner kicked Wayne Lambright out. This guy had also loaned Wayne Lambright over $1000 in his many failed attempts to get the psycho Wayne Lambright to straighten his life out. Everybody coming into contact with Wayne Lambright eventually learn. Wayne Lambright has no conscience, no prospects, no loyalty, no skills, no future. Behind Wayne Lambright is a long trail of devastated and financially inconvenienced people stretching back into Wayne Lambright's 20s. Wayne Lambright also managed to con older technologically illiterate people into handing over several tens of thousands of dollars for projects that could have been carried out by an outsourced indian in one week. In Wayne Lambright's hands, not even that can be done. Wayne Lambright is the perfect storm of incompetence and narcissism and the only people who have been willing to maintain a relationship with Wayne Lambright for more than a few months are a couple of redneck alcoholics and a methhead with whom Wayne Lambright enjoys periods of homosexual debauchery including the use of stimulants while seeking out ill reputed public bathrooms for "slam bams." But don't worry, Wayne Lambright fully forgives himself every time so he's Not Gay.

So i have been researching for a while and came to the conclusion that its possible.
The only obstacle is the power supply. Any suggestions for it?
Please note that i dont need a weapons-class gun but rather something that can haul stuff really far.
Power shouldn't be an obstacle if designed correctly. You just need a bank of capacitors.
And if it's going to "haul stuff really far" it's going to be considered a weapon by any local law enforcement.
Long story short, you probably don't have the money to build anything that will move anything over a few ounces.

So far, in the past month, we got:
>/diy/ grappling hook (archived)
>/diy/ batman gauntlets (http://boards.4chan.org/diy/thread/1110643#p1110643)
>/diy/ theatrical smoke propellant (http://boards.4chan.org/diy/thread/1112613#p1112613)
And now this.
Dunno about the rest of you, but I'm watching the news with popcorn from now on - it's only a matter of time before some entertaining shit happens!
>>1113616
I've actually built a rail-ish gun. Power is the easy part. Keeping the rails from eating themselves from current arcing is the hard part.

>not wearing a face shield over your safety glasses while grinding
>>1110611
Not using a grinder like a complete retard goes a long way.
>>1110604
I know ive said this before. But not buying cheap grinder blades. And not using cut off disc for grindin goes a long way.
Alright, trying to replace this copper off this rod with some permanent magnets to make a little windmill. I'm just wondering the best way to go about it, and to glue the magnets back on the rod. More pics to come.
>>1119596
youre not going to make very much power out of that
if you still want to do it, leave the copper on the rotor and drill divots in the core (where the slashes were done for balancing). put your magnets in the divots and epoxy them in place.
I know little of wood, how can I repair this? It happened from moving a couch and doing it incorrectly. It looks mostly cosmetic, I'm hoping I can smooth it over and nothing bad will come of it.
if the wood is still there, just compressed, then steam will make it pop up good as new. you get a wet rag, place it over the damaged area and hit the rag with a very hot iron. works like magic.
if the wood is gone, it has to be replaced by liquid wood, sanded flat, and re-varnished.
>>1119216
smallest can of similar brown stain from the shop
wipe it on with a rag or paper towel let sit wipe off
repeat until marks are blended
>>1119242
not compressed unfortunately, scraped off.
sounds like liquid wood will be my solution
Just happened to find this 3Com Palm III in my garage, but it refuses to turn on, only the screen glows and the piezo emits a continuous harsh noise. Google couldn't help me this time, sadly.
There's a slot on the rear side of the PCB, but i don't think it's for a RAM card that's missing, also i've inspected the PCB and everything seems alright.
Have some of you got the same model and can help me out?
Already asked on /g/ but some memelords showed up and the thread got archived
