yo,
im designing my kitchen right now, renovating the whole thing, but ive got this corner thats not being utilised. i plan to set it up so that you can push the corner of the bench and it pops up to reveal hidden appliances. the issue with that im thinking is the amount of for to drive it would need to be quite lard (essentially driving two pieces of solid granit, 500mm x 500mm and an appliance weighing in total about 12 kg. my thought was to have 4 od those hydraulic lift tubes (idk the name) bolted below it that woild push it up quite easy but then the issue is with pushing it down, as i dont want it to require a lot of force, so i was thinking of having it power driven (touch sensor that acts as an up and down switch, automatically turning off once its at the top or bottom. but then the issue with that is it might be thater noisy and id prefer to plug it in, not have it wired directly to the mains and just install a power port behind it, that would also power the appliance (brings up the issue of having a sturdy enough chord with routing).
any input? it would sort of be this in appearance but vertical and automatic
and combined with the principle of this, in fact this is probably what im after but on a larger scale. im worried about the issue of having it water tight though

Check with Q about it.
I'm sure he can have the boys come up with something suitable.

post pictures of the corner.
Anyone have any idea how to get into this bastard light?
Tried leverage, unscrewing, just straight pulling it off, nothing seems to work
Further detail of the notches. The nubbin in the top one doesn't press down, twist or flip side to side in any direction.
I only want to change the fucking bulb but I'm about ready to just pull the whole thing right off

How can I insulate my window? I'm renting, so I can't do any fancy stuff. I'm kinda freezing a bit at night time.
To hell with the sun.

Its saran wrap for your windows with double sided tape
You throw it up, and then use a hair dryer to keep it taut.
It works wonders for old drafty windows
First time using /diy/ here
I need some help finding a place that sells aluminum with the fallowing specification
Thickness of 2.5" to 3"
Length 2ft-3ft
Width 2ft-3ft
Thanks
That's some thick aluminum.
I'm no expert but I bet only people that produce structural aluminum will have it. Like, aluminum meant to be welded into I beams for construction.
Sounds like its gonna be hard to find
Never heard of any kind of plate aluminum that big. Sounds like a special order and big money.
it'd help if you said why it needs to be those dimensions.
what are you doing with it?
Hello /diy sorry to have to ask but what would cause a toilet to randomly start filling up with water in the cistern thingy? happens every time put the washing machine on and now it's doing it every time run the tap downstairs, also the last couple of days have been particularly cold and it's started doing it randomly more frequently, i believe it started happening around the time we had our boiler maintained (not a service) was a new heating system installed circa 5-10 years ago but cant remember maybe more and although modern even i think the installs naff pipes coming out of bottom are just not autism tier work which you would want with a boiler right and it leaked once within first two years as well.
Obviously toilet's broken because having to pull at it to stop it and thing came off so had to tape it down or something.

ah sorry for stupid size pic, believe it or not it was on my computer and posted it from there
Install a new fill valve
correct, but only if fill valve kit has a new flapper.
The tank should only fill to certain level based on the float of the fill valve kit (the floaty ball). As the water rises, that ball floats up and when it reaches near the top it closes off the valve.
I would guess you need a new flapper (at least) because it should only fill if that ball is lower and allowing the valve to open. That flapper is what allows water to drain out of the tank.
TL:DR try a flapper first. Its easier and cheaper to replace. And they then to fail when they get old AND its cold as they contract a bit.
Any good advice for someone trying to start a small rooftop garden using pallets? What plants are useful to grow with little space? I live in the Netherlands btw, to give you an idea of the climate
So far I have two pallets I found by dumpster diving.
Have you thought of growing coriander, parsley, mint, basil, or rosemary?
>>1118876
Yeah, I'll probably have those
I was thinking of growing some berries aswell but I think they need more space
>>1118874
kill next door neighbors and use their apt for space
I hate this thing. I would like to replace it with a regular shower head or regular hand shower head with a hose. Or maybe just screw on a plug. What part(s) can I take off without touching the drywall? I'm renting, so I can't touch the drywall.
>>1118774
Okay, I thought the part on the wall was calked on. Guess not. I can screw something on here, but most hand head shower kits have a female, not a male connection here. Is there a male to female adapter along with a cover to protect the drywall?
>>1118778
>>1118774
see if that cone at wall is just an escutcheon by trying to rotate. then try to slide forward.
If that's fine, you should be able to unscrew the shower arm, but there is risk of it tearing at the threads then you'd need a flat head screwdriver and needle nose pliers to peel the remaining part out.
you could for sure remove the shower head itself, but might need to add support from above if the new one is heavy.
Does that bulb in the center loosen for you to move the curved part of the shower arm into the larger part/ adjust the length from wall, or is it just a joint that unscrews?
What is a step drill bit's advantage over a regular drill bit?
>>1118685
They're great for drilling in plastic without cracking it.
A complete set of bits for holes in plastic or sheet metal in one or two bits
Great for center bits
>>1118685
They're very easy to use and they make very clean and straight holes.
I use them almost every day on aluminum enclosures.
Also very cheap.
>>1118686
Ok, thanks.
Dumb question but what is a center bit?
What are some must have adhesives, lubricants, greases, water displacers etc for the /diy/er?
And tips and uses for them as well.

What are some things you've used them for?
Ok, if we look at a basic Linear Time-Invariant Open Loop transfert function H(s) in the frequency domain. Then the poles are the values for s for which H(s) is infinite, right?
So if H(s) is infinite than the time domain output for t->infinity is also infinite too right? (If not, why not?)
But how is that possible? If f.e. s = -3+2i. Then the the output should die out!
In other words, what is the meaning in the time domain of a pole in the frequency domain??
(pic unrelated)
wrong board m8
>>1118391
This is more /sci/ than /diy/ I would say, but whatever. Poles are points in the complex plane Which are the zeroes of the denominator of H(s). H(S) is not defined a these points, but I guess you could say that H(s) is infinite if evaluated at a pole.
The time and freq domains are linked by the Laplace transform, and what matters is the position of the poles (poles with positive real parts make a system divergent in the time domain).
Look up some control systems theory on wikipedia or ask /sci/ to give you some reference material to get a better understanding
>>1118391
I think you lack basic theoretical knowledge that some 4chan posts won't be able to explain to you
So above the three bed rooms in my house are these windows, I don't like them, I don't like them alot. Has anyone here ever got rid of these? If so how did you do it? Obviously I could just board them up, but I feel like that would almost look worse. I could remove ALL of it, door and all and dry wall the top to make it flush, but that's alot of work, not that i'm opposed to alot of work, but are these my only options.
Also what the fuck are they called?
Paint it.
Any colour you like, lad.
They are called transoms, and I agree on painting them. I'm a trim carpenter and transoms are just fucking dumb.
Take it out might as well take the cheap ass door and frame as well and buy a nice new one then finish stripping the walls and paint it
picked up an Emerald 116 sewing machine today, it's trash, gonna return it tomorrow. need sauce on zig zag machine capable of 12mm thick (4 layers) of climb spec nylon

would prefer American Made, trying to avoid a 50 year old singer but fuck these clutch motors, direct drive sounds nice
Go get a sewline or other Cinese zigzag. All the sailrite attachments work and they are retty good machines

What are the best solutions to make a multi purposed workbench with the only use of handtools?
found this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuziiAC4oSE
are there better, with eg less handtools?
>>1117986
>scrollsaw
I think I would have drilled some holes and shot some dowels through that base in a couple angles.
>less handtools
Hammer
Screwdriver
2 Wrenches
Crosscut saw/Miter Saw & Miter Box
Pencil
Measuring Stick
Drill & bits
Clamps/Ratchet Straps/Heavy Books
Glue, Dowels, & Fasteners
Thats' pretty much what you need.
well i mean less handtools as like using only a driller machine to power, and making different stands/jigs/mounts for it to work as a different table tool.
eg:
Table saw with drill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul-7F5plzJw
Scroll saw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_1cs8Kp7t4
I'm not a mechanic, so i thought DIY could tell easily howto make them to work most effective. (that scroll saw i linked doesn't move flawlessly as i see)
