I thumbed through the book. They suggest cheap mountain lands and lots of tyvek vapor barrier.

I bought the book. It's worth a read. Drainage is a big deal obviously. French drains and elevation seem to be a running theme.
Hmm thinking container home covered in dirt would be easier...

I know a 90 year old man been living under ground for 50+ years.
Wont let us get pics. Is a nice guy but as any sane person ina bunker knows. Everyone else btfo.
How he built it.
Track hoe.
Dug a series of open ditches.
Fill with concrete and simultaneously pour pad on top of that. Dunno how thicc.
Run around inside with skid loader.
Prep floor.
Lay pad for floor.
Trash pump and power wash all insides.
After much cleaning go to town with some sort of water and mold resistant paint.
Essentially. Concrete bunker.
Cheap heating and cooling.
After he got married several decades ago and the war was over he added a large sun room so as not to live like mole people.
I can attest for this.
Sounds dumb. I fucking hate windows. But my first appartment didnt have windows and it sucked dick.
I have about 40 windows with blinds always closed. But it feels strange without them.
