Going to use this design for bass traps cause the roommates are cheap and weird. They insist on covering the front with plywood though instead of cloth like in every design online ever. Is there an explanation for why cloth is mostly used, and why plywood would be bad?
(aside from mold)
>>1127799
Wait... You mean... You don't know why cloth dampens sound and hard wood doesn't?
>>1127799
The cloth allows sound to pass into the insulating material inside (rockwool, fiberglass etc) to be absorbed while presenting a visual barrier. Wood will just reflect the sound back like a wall.
>>1127803
... yes. It would be great to get an explanation please. If it was up to me I would follow the guides. I present them with this and they get a hard-on for covering it with plywood.
hey i want to get into rc hobby, and wanted to make sure if these components are compatable
i ordered a lipo 3s battery from another place
this is the battery i was planning to get

You need a male Deans plug to fit that battery; how good is your soldering?
Also, how were you planning on charging that battery?
Does anyone know any companies that do reasonably priced laser cutting I want to laser cut a 78 rpm record
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ti7KccPLyFg
and if so would it be feasible to even cast it in silicon and retain any audio fidelity at all
>>1127378
When will this meme die
RECORDS ARE NOT AND HAVE NEVER BEEN HIGH FIDELITY
You cannot cut rapid changes in audio on a record, everything becomes smoothed out. Go with a fucking cd or a good quality FLAC playing mp3 player if you want high fidelity
>>1127487
The reason I asked for a 78 wasn't for hugh fidelity from the start but the ability to process audio with no use of electricity

Does anyone knows how to build a hostess mount? Hostess mount are usually used to film car scenes. I am currently planning to shoot a short film but the shots are requiring us to use hostess mount. Any advice will be appreciated! Also DIY for freedom mounts will be fine as well.

Pic related. X2, cut in half, glued into pvc pipe and a dash of creativity can equal a car mounted steady cam.
Just one can hold a gopro. Bounus points for rc gimbal mount.
>>1127366
Get handheld gimble mount and hold camera.
Bonus points for $300 hd recording drone
Any help /diy/? I'm certain that I saw where it dropped but searching that area has turned up nothing.

Magnets.
Are you fucking kidding me with these shitty ass threads
>>1126854
what size?
So I have a couple pliers that have no comfort handles for which I would like to make some, my question is what's the best way to do it?
I'm thinking about melting some type of plastic and just dipping them, would that work? Also what type of material should I use?
>tl;dr turn left pic into right pic.
Tooldip is what you want, search for "Plasti-Dip"
Plastidip or heat shrink tubing

>>1126567
Yap that will do it, thanks a lot. Have a qt.

I want to build a bunker/undergound shelter.
My house is near a medium size cave.
Is there any guide or handbook to learn to reinforce a cave?
>go in cave
>Too dark
>Fetch fire wood
>Wait for lightning
>Fire now
>Take inside
>Ouch hot
>But can see
>See bat, smell bat, eat bat
>Take one fire wood
>Break
>One end sharp
>Good for fight
>Now sheltered
>Cave reinforced with fire and stabby
>>1126475
Lighting a fire inside of a cave is a Really bad idea.

>Shaman always command

Can a hair-curler be quickly turned into a soldering iron somehow?
maybe by removing the metal curling portion cover?
If possible, how can I turn a curling iron into a soldering gun/iron?
>>1126406
>Can a hair-curler be quickly turned into a soldering iron somehow?
no, different temperature range

But can a soldering iron be turned into emergency hair curlers?

is there a resistor i can remove to increase temperature?
What is it like being involved in a really big high value project?
Has anyone ever done:

> large scale mining, oil drilling, oil rigs
> aerospace manufacturing
> defense manufacturing
> semiconductor manufacturing
> etc...
I know heaps of tradies who worked on the Gorgon LNG project (54 billion USD est.).
You're just a number (obviously).
You're extremely well paid (200k+ AUD year for sparkies).
You get given a lot more time to do your tasks than on smaller projects (catch all/LCD).

Sounds tremendous

Should've posted the negatives as well.
Strict as fuck on the rules. Follow the rules to the word otherwise you're outta there.
A lot of Q/A inspectors who can pick arbitrary things as it's their job to pick stuff up.
Lots and lots of safety related paperwork.
How come there aren't any like cheap backpack type portable power supplies for making corded tools semi-cordless?
Like if I wanted to make my $20 weed whacker cordless is there anything at like $50 that can do the job?
>>1125604
Batteries are fucking heavy, anon.
>>1125604
Corded tools run on 110v AC in North America. 220v in Europe. Batteries run on DC. The easiest way would be to make a DC-to-AC converter and make sure your batteries output the same voltage as your device. Getting up to 110v AC is no joke as most single cell batteries are it in the 1-1.5 volt range. Once your volts start to dip as the batteries drain you will rapidly lose power, though. Tools made for constant AC are not as tolerant to voltage drop as tools designs for batteries. Basically, its a whole lot better idea to get some used cordless tools cheap and build yourself some nice batteries for them, as stock batteries tend to suck and be overpriced.
>>1125604
Get a lawn mower battery or car battery, you can find these for super cheap or even free, and a $40 power inverter from harbor freight.
Is there a easy way to transform 18v to 12v. I want to use my cordless drill battery to power a fish finder.
An LM317T with a capacitor and resistor would do it.
>>1125429
depends, what's the current requirement for the fish finder?
power dissipation for a 317 is (Vin-Vout) x current draw, i'd try to keep it to less than 5watts with a heatsink
get a cheap buck converter off ebay (~$1 each)
>>1125404
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-LM2596-power-Supply-Buck-Converter-step-down-module-GM-/262136732989
Don't forget to tune it with the adjustment screw, it doesn't automatically output 12V
Hey /diy/,
I'm working on building a "pain box" using the thermal grill illusion. I plan on using this design:
https://hackaday.io/project/6577-dune-pain-box-a-hackers-replica
I'm not sure what type of power supply should I use for connecting 5 peltier modules?
The instructions say they should be connected in parallel at 7.5V and 3A but I'm not sure how to achieve this.
Could anyone point me in the direction of a suitable power supply or how to "connect in parallel"?
Any help would be appreciated, I have a very limited knowledge of electrical
https://www.amazon.com/Philmore-Multi-Voltage-Regulated-Power-Supply/dp/B004M45MHQ/
I found this power supply that looks suitable but it's only rated at 2 amps. Also concerned about compatibility.
Would this possibly work? I'm sorry again for my poor knowledge of electric.
Do you want to run it off 12vdc or 120vac?
>>1127817
The instructions say DC.
Hello /DIY.
Can any one help me with my heating problems?
Im at my Nan's house and the radiators are red hot upstairs but only luke warm downstairs.
Apparently its called balancing the system.
I have tried a few times now but with no real success.
We have a big copper storage heater upstairs, a water tank in the loft and a small boiler downstairs that I assume fills and heats the tank.
I can take photos if needed.
any advice lads? I was told to turn everything off, (flow valves and temperature) and then slowly turn them back on, starting down stairs.
I guess its trying to encourage the water to other parts of the system.
any plumber bros have any experience with this?
thanks
On which pressure is your system working ?
You get all the air out of all the radiators ?
>>1126891
I bled all of the radiators and only liquid came out so I dont think there is air trapped in the system.
How would i check the pressure?
the little white boiler downstairs only has a reset button (no controls or display).
thanks for your reply.
ill take some photos of the boilers?
>>1126892
That would be realy nice, at least to get a little bit knowledge of your system. I´m working in Germany so i think it would be a little bit different..
