I'm trying to come up with some new schools of magic.
Any ideas or things you've seen used in the past that you thought were cool but underused. Or maybe a new way of casting magic.
Something like noise magic, or rage bending.
>>49373699
Momentum based magic, such as reducing the force of hits or increasing the speed of the PC
Necromancy using oil I've seen on /tg/ before
>>49373699
nothing new, but im quite fond of "the will and the word" as seen in the belgariad books.
>>49373699
Well, what schools do you have already? Coming up with stuff in a void is hard, it's easier with some kind of building block.
Is Fireball from the School of Fire Thermal? Destruction? Material? Rage? Purification?
How granular or conceptual are these Schools anyway?
Work out what exactly it is you want, because once you've done that you can already see the end result.
Hi nerds
I picked barbarian in Pathfinder because it seems cool. But I don't know the role or what should he do.
How do I play barbarian?
Cool picture. Read the official material.
Bye.
>>49373130
reroll to druid or cleric
or play a better game
>>49373130
Barbarians are the casters of the party, you'll want to stand at the back and cast your rages. Also, don't wear any armor due to Arcane Rage Failure.
Alternatively, you could google it and get a real answer instead.
What if the Vatican was nuked?
>>49372717
There;d be a lot of pissed-off Catholics in the world.
Considering the Vatican is in Rome, there'd be a lot of pissed-off Italians.
And considering the Italian Mafia is global and has networks all over the place, and they would probably lose family members, there'd be a lot of pissed-off mobsters everywhere.
They'd be frying Muslims in the streets of Italian cities for months, I'd wager.

Guys, i just ran a Jurassic Park / Jurassic World themed campaign with the rules of "DREAD". A survival oriented ruleset that some anon here suggested to me. It's based on a Jenga tower rather than dice.
It was the best Roleplay experience that i've ever had. If you like Jurassic Park and survival oriented campaigns, give this a try.
Bump for excellent taste. Dread is my favorite system
>>49372706
thank you!
If you like Dread you should try Ten Candles
So, when Wizards posted their august 5e survey, they've dropped info that went largely unnoticed in /tg/ - basically, pic related.
So, major rules expansion - the first one. Which means that adding new subclasses like they did in SCAG, chase mechanics or whatever from DMG or (god forbid) adventure paths do not count - they want to release something much bigger, not just a compilation from their Unearthed Arcanas.
So, I have two questions for you - first, what do you want it to be? Second, what do you think it's going to be?
All I know is I don't want it to be.
Every single edition of D&D has died because of rules bloat and endless splat books. Every single one. They still seem set on making the same mistame which is a damn shame.
>>49372122
Two years in and we've had what, 3 official subclasses and one book which is mostly fluff? I'm fine with this. And, fifth edition won't last forever, obviously. Besides, there's plenty of homebrew rules bloat already. This will just expand stuff for adventurers league. Part of the problem was that whenever an adventure designer wanted a boss to do something specific, he had to write a new spell which PCs could have access to. Spells are easier to write than classes. Keep the level of content roughly on par for each class and there isn't as much of a problem
>>49372122
Every single edition has died because people get tired of it and Wizards of the Coast has to make new material to sell.
Literally every supplement is optional and you don't have to, nor are you supposed to use everything from all of them.
Rules supplements like Unearthed Arcana are just full of optional rules and tweaks you can slot in if you feel like it
>call FLGS
>get put on hold

Occupy your mind with pointless shit so you don't have to think about me. I'm 37 playing games and I'm okay with that.

Try the Other game store nearby. Not the chain one like Dragon's Keep that's really popular, but the one store that's owned by a guy who decided to make it his hobby, but had the good business sense to wait until his forties to run it, do it right, and is populated by him and his friends.
Keeping Up with the Kaladeshians Edition
Last thread KO'd after a hearty run and I had a green text to post.

Just gonna link to the old thread.
While I know it's a fools errand, I intend to run a 4-6 player Call of Cthulu group(7th Ed) for my first RPG ever. I've played some DnD in Roll20 but any other experience is essentially nonexistent.
Do you have tips for running a CoC campaign?
I will be running The Haunting, with extra personal plot elements incorporated as failsafes for plot derailment. They either lead to a sequel to The Haunting, or to a modded Missed Dues. I'm rather nervous as I know it's a large group for the game too.
>>49369977
My only advice is for you to chop that group size down to 3-4 if you can. A big group with an inexperienced GM can equal a disaster.
>>49369977
Use some typical haunted house tricks to separate the party whenever you can, if only to keep the number of players in each scene more manageable. The players are gonna feel pretty secure with such a high number of people, the more of them you can get apart from each other, the more you can ramp up the tension.
Running a proper horror game can be very tricky. I don't have much advice to give, but there are two important things to keep in mind: The atmosphere is very important(and can easily be ruined by a poorly timed joke or OOC chatter in general) and you can't scare the players if they don't want to be scared.
Alright /tg/ i could use some help on this one, I'm all for helping players create their own unique magic items for my game, they like it and i like it.
a player of mine recently decided he wants to create a weapon. he keeps changing what he wants with this weapon, and he keeps changing what his character idea is. so i can't help him at all.
Ive finally put my foot down and said he has to send me a version of it before the next game, and he hasn't gotten around to it, so I'm just going to make him something.
i really have nothing to go off of besides that its a holy sword, he doesn't worship any specific god, but currently (which it may change) it is a part of a church that is bent on protecting humanity from otherworldly monsters.
so I'm trying to build him a holy sword tonight and I'm a little drained on ideas aside from Smite and Heal, basic holy shit.
Could i get a little help?
hes forfeited his right to a personalized weapon when he refused to make up his mind so go crazy.
Pic related is what he sent me
>>49369829
Artifact? Those are usually sentient.
Hmm.. The sword changes the god it smites for every day/week/new moon. It will always proudly and loudly proclaim to serve that god, so all around it may know.
It will also object to being put away when it feels that there's smiting to be done.
OP what sort of power level is this thing?
A couple minor powers like an attack buff and a ranged smite.
Or are we talking divine light to buff all your allies and smite a battlefield. Likely not this one, but what level are we talking.
Have you considered cooldowns and limited uses as well, what about ritual requirements? I like to put limits but add more powers when I make artifacts.
Hmm, I suggest since it's a weapon maybe no healing powers. However maybe a detect evil if your setting has alignment
>>49369862
ha, that does very much fit the player, changing his mind every day. but wouldn't the sword be more dangerous if it were to support lets say khorne and believes everything need to be smote?
>>49370006
better than a +2 sword, but not excalibur
Hey /tg/, what's the most underrated RPG system in your opinion? I often enjoy reading the books as much as playing them, and have been reading nothing but OSR shit all summer, so I'm in the market for something real different.
Genre doesn't really matter, I just wanna see some less common ideas.
>>49369225
Unknown Armies is still fairly popular, but I'd say it's underrated.
The setting can kind of be summed up with: Imagine World of Darkness, but the only monster is mankind, and mankind is fucking weird.
>>49369225
Dogs in the Vineyard isn't really underrated, but old and indie.
I feel like Classic Fantasy is underrated because it's a small portion of RQ6/Mythras players using it.
>>49369251
Haven't checked this one out before, though I've seen a few threads for it. I'll give it a look, thanks dude.
>>49369270
I remember starting to read this a couple years back, but don't remember anything from it. I'll check it out again. Might still have the pdf.
Is there a non-awkward way to do an NPC love interest?
>>49368655
The DM is probably a fa/tg/uy, so no
Yes, she need to make a daily thread on /tg/ expressing opinions on killing.
Your character has a NPC love interest.
They show up every once in a while to do plot stuff or your character says "I write to my love interest / I spend the day with my love interest"
Anyone else here remember this game?
Anyone still collect/play with the miniatures?
It was fun, though the limited actions per turn thing wasn't really balanced.
I'm sad that it died, but wizkids is literally incapable of not ruining everything they touch.
I still use some of the miniatures for Fairy Meat.
>>49368535
Why did they implement those limited actions per turn rule anyways? I've tried playing it with a "every figure can move once per turn" rule and it worked out ok.
They really made non-bounding ranged units worthless in 2.0 though.
What faction did you play the most?
>>49368665
Forgot my pic.
How do you view souls in your setting?
Are they core objects to a creatures being? or simply variable forms of energy
does a negative creature benefit from consuming a positive energy soul?
Or is it some flim flam organ that has no purpose other than "X has had their soul taken" and nothing more
>>49368119
Human Souls are a hole in the Field, an ethereal plane full of energy.
Human Souls leak this energy around them, and use this to power their life. Humans can also manipulate this flow of energy to use certain abilities, either direct energy attacks, enhancements, or more complex manipulations based on their personal training or quirks.
Magus Souls instead are a clump of solid energy from the field, that never changes. They're the mass of an entire human soul's lifetime. They use magic by using their effective gravitational pull on the Field to rip pieces from it to shape.
Biotech Souls are microscopic organisms that are the smallest possible size to draw from the field. They aren't capable of doing anything but altering their own atomic structure. En masse, these make for programmable biotech.
Shadow Souls are purely soul-based beings that exist to keep the field running smoothly. They're animalistic in nature, seeking only to feed on larger clumps of field, breaking them up and consuming them. Constant streams of field break them apart, so they only exist when the field is not in a state of flux.
>>49368119
Souls are like distilled ethereal energy in my setting. They can be harnessed as components for powerful spells/enchantments. One of the BBEG wizards my party encountered created an orb that acted as a sort of unlimited energy source by sacrificing several thousand sentient souls to tap into the positive plane. They used it to power their airship until a dragon crashed it and they blew it up to kill the dragon.
>>49368239
holy shit, thats some description I'll keep that in mind for my campaign
>>49368279
However in raw amounts would you say it's detrimental to be in bathed in something like that?
I don't like attaching an elemental feature like being burned or chilled but I can't think of something that describes being hit by a bolt of, well souls?
And having one's soul "ripped" out doesn't exactly sound like it would be tearing or shredding but rather emotionless and bland like changing the temperature rapidly
Here's the elevator pitch.
You have two large landmasses, the first one is populated by humanity, their technology mirrors that of 13th century europe.
The other is America but instead of humans you have differant sentient entities that are less technologicaly advanced but have actual access to magic. Rituals to conjure elementals, necromancy, Druidic terraphorming you name it.
Now, imagine a cataclysm that manages to make these two isolated world meet. Meteor, earthquakes, tsunamis whatever.
Thoughts?
What prevents America from just buttfucking the 13th century people? Unless that's the idea.
>>49368004
Need more details, sounds way too unclear right now.
Give us some quick details on the Humans, but we need a lot more on the entities. Calling it America might have been a bad choice.
>>49368061
A meteorite carrying a Crystaline parasite is slowly turning all land into crystal formations which can come alive and perpetuate itself. This plague is highly resistant to magic.
>>49368063
i admit, america was just a placeholder name honestly, same for europe they're just to generate a quick mental picture.
Humanity is ruled by a single emperor who's kingdom is slowly slipping away from him due to the emergence of powerful guilds.
I juggled with the idea of having a monotheistic religion that would allow humanity to benefit from classic clerical magic but keep it to miracles and subtle effects nothing close to wrath of god or raise dead.
