Just had a That Pleb experience, ancien/tg/amers.

>Be me
>Running Legionnares and Typhons, III.V Edition, set during the conquest of Germania
>That Pleb is a friend of one of the other players
>Total Greekaboo, browses /ccc/ constantly
>Demands to play a Hoplite from the Hellenistic supplement
>Shows up with a character mosaic straight out of some Homeric poem
>Cannot shut up about "masterwork Greek xiphos" and the superiority of the ancient Spartan warriors
>mfw
>Send party to go kill barbarian king and bring his subjects under glorious Romana rule.
>That Pleb decides "nah" and says he wants to "help fight for freedom from the stuck-up and uncultured Romans"
>isthisbarbarianserious.statue
>Attacks the party, gets killed on the spot by the Centurion.
>Throws a fit, says there's no way a Centurion could best a Hoplite
>Explain to him real life Hoplites were shit soldiers with crude armor and spent more time fucking boy slaves than fighting
>Gets pissy and stays there and pouts for the rest of the game, but apparently has no plans on leaving the campaign.

How do you deal with players like this?

How do you have your players meet in game? I've been using Taverns and Prisons for a while, need ideas to break my bias.

encourage your players to have backstories that tie their characters together. If not all of them then just two or three. Establish a common interest beforehand and it makes a starting setting more unique. The paladin and cleric might be friends because they're in the same monastery. The rogue might have hired the barbarian to be his bodyguard and their looking for their next big heist.

Y'know. That sort of stuff.
>>
I'm generally always trying to give each of the characters some plot hook that will guide them on the same tracks + encourage players to make characters that already know some of the others.

Examle:
>Character A receives letter from his uncle, notifying some trouble and urgent need of help
>Character B's player decided to roll chis char as a close friend of character A so he follows them
>Character C is authorities' secret agent covertly investigate the matter, so he needs to infiltrate the party
>Character D is Character A's uncles' trusted servant who delivered the message
>>
Interesting. I'll keep that sort of stuff in mind

Alright fellow fa/tg/uys share your favorite card that you saw as your favorite Unique, Weird or Flavorful card that was printed within the last 3 years. Doesn't matter if its pauper or legendary, creature or land or sorcery or even shitty mill!

>KALADESH INCLUDED OH PEE?
Omnisiah says all clear.

My choice is the Colossus of Akros. It's an artifact endgame with the traditional Indestructable but not Trample making it a little more difficult to end. Also it's an 8M with a 10/10 body that has Defender but with 10M it turns online, becomes a 20/20, gains Trample to kill the opponent, and retains Defender status while being able to attack to receive any bonuses gained by that status.

If I'm playing a setting based around Greek mythology, what do I do with centaurs, fauns, satyrs, etc?

I know there's a whole rape narrative there but I don't know how it actually is in the mythology: what would the attitude to it be in the Greek culture? What should centaurs or satyrs do in the setting? If they abduct people, what happens to the people they abduct?

Kinda the same deal with nymphs actually, at least the naiad kind.

If you aren't interested in hot interspecies rape, then I don't know why you want to play in a setting based around Greek mythology.
>>
>>49401941

> what happens to the people they abduct?

Slaves, raped in the modern sense, or maybe just stolen briefly as "just a prank bro"
>>
>>49401941

They're all minor nature spirits. They are divine, but they aren't gods in same sense as the Olympians.

Think of them as incarnations of wild masculinity. They're big on rape because they have lust without having the restraint that good Greeks are supposed to have. They're all the traits that men have but were expected to control.

Less famous example: if you look at Greek art of satyrs, you'll find that they're normally drinking. That's because they're fundamentally creatures of excess and they're associated with Dionysus. Look closely and you'll find that they almost always drink from a horn. Why? Partly because horns look kind of like penises. Partly because you can't set it down without spilling it. That means they can never stop drinking.

tl;dr Greeks thought moderation and self-control were important, satyrs and centaurs are what you get when you take men and get rid of those parts.

Godbound General!

What is Godbound? It's a 3pp Pathfinder class that basically transforms Pathfinder into a brand new game, though still a d20 game.

In Godbound, you play a Godbound. You're a superpowered godling whom no mortal hero can stop, no matter how powerful they are. If you're a level 1 Godbound and the other guy is a level 20 mortal wizard, you'll win because your can fling your divine powers at them and they'll have no chance of resisting. Your only opposition comes from other Godbound.

What kind of Godbound can you play? Think of an Exalted type. Those are the playable Godbound, because Godbound's setting is actually just Creation from Exalted. So you can play a Solar Godbound, a Lunar Godbound, a Sidereal Godbound, an Alchemical Godbound, or whatever.

What do you do in Godbound? Take over the world, try to make the world better, or both. But don't worry, because this game doesn't have any clunky domain management rules to slow you down. You'll just have to trust in your GM to fiat how things work in downtime.

Sounds good?

Why not just play exalted, instead of d20 shit?
>>
>>49402820
Because you're terrified of leaving your comfort zone.
>>
>>49402820

as someone who's played both i can attest that exalted is more personalized and leads to more investment in the game, where Godbound is basically the FATE equivalent of the theme where you freeform until something hits back, then you just roll 1 die with minimal failure rate.

With Exalted, you roll dozens of dice and feel the scope of your power that way. When you see your character get 12 successes, literally twice as many as needed to perform an already nigh-impossible feat, it can get exciting.

With godbound, that excitement comes when you DON'T have to roll, because you're basically on a power trip UNTIL something manages to resist your shaping of the world or decimating of this army or whatever else.

Both definitely have their merit. But this is a Godbound thread.

AD&D 2e Planescape's On Hallowed Ground goes into heavy detail on this, and it can ofttimes work out very well for the character.

While most of the "greater proxies" in the book are high-level characters, there are also many relatively weak specimens with levels in the lower double digits. The weakest one listed is "Petra Kourakis," 2nd-level male human fighter and proxy of the god Apollo.

The second-weakest is "Banebdjedet," 3rd-level male bariaur fighter and proxy of the god Thoth, who has no apparent relation to the ram-god of the same name.

Neither seems to have been disadvantaged by their position, despite being low-level fighters.

I'll start:

>Wisdom, Pants, Moth

It is said the Titan Mountains are formed by the remains of a fallen Titan who pierced the mountains and stood up to the gods. It is also said that within the deepest regions of this mountain range, there lives a race of insectoid, textile-eating hermits who live of the still-intact loincloth of the Titan.
These wise Mothmonks are no larger than a child and are mostly seen sitting with their legs folded, chanting to the cosmos. They live a reclusive life of peace, prayer, mental and martial training and are friendly yet complicated towards outsiders. They are content among the mountains and will remain there for thousands of years, because the garment that the Titan wore around his crotch will provide them with food for a long time.

No takers?

>Pirate, Reward, Parade

The inselladre are a species of giant waterbugs (they vary considerably; from half the size of a human to half again as big) who speak with the minds and voices of men. As a culture they are consumers, compulsive thieves and liars - they prize the theft of gold and knowledge from outsiders. Inselladre pirates raid shipping, ambushing vessels from below the waterline, or make grand expeditions in silk air bubbles to loot long-forgotten shipwrecks. When they raid they take living captives and question them compulsively about their lives and cultures: the inselladre have a great love for mimicry (they are naturally talented at mimicking voices) and they will stage a triumph aping the celebrations of their enemies after a successful raid. Though the inselladre make their homes in stark caves and barren islands they are a colorful lot - each insect fuses the trophies and mannerisms taken from their various foes into a distinct personal "act".

Time to use the worst system for a character concept. How do I make a wing-combat focused character in D&D 3.P?

First bit of difficulty is getting a set of wings; is it better to bite the CR or LA adjustment to get them from a template, and if so, which one? Are there races more suited to it at lower levels, or that would make it easier or more effective at higher levels?

For clarification I'm looking to avoid just doing Spell Thematics and then just refluffing melee spells, but other than that I'm looking into any sort of response. Martial, Magical, Divine, Weird sub-sets like Binding or Incarnum can all work.

Magic-wise though, the only spells I know of for this would be Wings of Cover from Dragon Magic or Adamantine Wings in Complete Mage.

How does one beat one's enemies to death with flapping wings /tg/? Can be any variety of wings; feathery, leathery, fiery, spooky, etc.

Because sorting things like this out through use of the system is half the fun and reason for using it at all. Spell Thematics also requires using melee spells; not many of them facilitate the effect of wing-bopping folks very well.

Who?

Hello /tg/,

Could you recommend me some video games that best approach the feel (and especially the freedom) of a tabletop roleplaying game? I got to play D&D once and now I want more. I don't have many friends though and I sure as hell don't have any that would play D&D with me.

Skyrim got the exploration down but really fails to evoke the same sense of freedom with it's stale combat and boring quests.

Well Baldur's Gate is pretty good and so is Pillars of Eternity but it is hard to capture the open feel of trpgs in vidya.
>>
Oh boy.

Dorf Fortress is often shown as an example so I'll list it. I don't play so I can't say much more.

Nethack is a good one. The devs have contingencies for basically everything. For example, each item has unique descriptions for when you're blind, when you're delirious/insane, and when you're both blind and insane. You can also move while levitating by throwing objects in the opposite direction of how you want to move.

Fallout: New Vegas. I love this game and I'm biased, it's not a perfect example. HOWEVER, most quests have a handful of different ways to best them depending on your skills. For example, Guns controls your shooting, but you can also use it to talk to NPCs about firearms.

Hitman [Blood Money] is similar in the freeform element. You're given a target and a level. The only "failure state" is getting killed. The fun comes from finding different ways to take out your target.

I've only played a bit of it, but Planescape Torment is directly based on the Planescape setting and D&D rules.

X-Com is more like a miniatures wargame than an RPG, but I'd say it counts. Permadeath for your troops means every turn matters, and the mix of short-term tactics and long-term strategy gives the game real depth.
>>
I don't know if it approaches tabletop RPG, but if you're looking for a good CRPG, then go with Dragon's Dogma.

I have just assured you that
A: He will think you're too dumb to be worth killing, and may end up as a pawn in a future scheme. But that's later.

Or B: He kills you with a doombolt out of frustration, ensuring your death is quick and painless.
