I dont even know he called it but i played against some guy at my lgs who was playing a deck i had never seen before.
He was running full playsets of kor firewalker and blood moon, ajani elspeth and nahiri and land destruction package.
I dont know how well he did against others but his deck was basically designed to beat burn so i got stomped.
Also restore balance is a hilariously jank deck that can still win

How the fuck do I map out a small city?
>>
>>49422691
First answer, get Vornheim and alter the tables.

Second answer, don't. Map general areas in the city, and make a few random tables to work out what happens if the players go wandering in that area. Generally cities are less about the exact route, and more about knowing the place exists. You'd never find that great club wandering your city at night, but as soon as you know the address you can go right to it.

City adventures are more about who and what you know, and what the consequences are when you kick the anthill.

If the Custodies are just single pose miniatures I will be incredibly disappointed.

That will mean that buying it results in 7 models useless for anyone wanting to just buy this for expanding their legion.
>inb4 "just sell those or trade them"
no wolf fags or Sons fags in my area, and the few I know would just buy this set anyway. The HQs from Calth were perfect for converting or using in other legions, not these special character bullshit... It should have been a generic librarian and a preator or centurion...

After 2 Battle of Calth sets I already have 30 Tacticals, 20 Veterans, 2 five man Devastators and 10 terminators.

I don't see why this set would give so much of the same shit. I can only hope the MkIII will be made with new roles, like breachers and assault marines... otherwise what is the goddamn point besides just the aesthetics.

Its not even out yet and it feels already like a waste of an opportunity...

I'm the only one of my friends who cares enough about the hobby to invest significant time in it out of game. I have the best understanding of the rules, because I'm the only one who is willing to read beyond the PHB, and I have most of the PHB memorized, or at least the index. I've also invested a lot of spare time here and in other places honing my skills as a GM, gathering tips, advice, techniques, and anything I could to improve my ability. After all, GMing is supposed to be the ultimate end to understanding and mastering a system, right? So, I've learned many things about how to do it, and I try to apply them all. I spend the week worrying about whether combat is balanced and interesting, and whether the NPCs are believable and enjoyable to interact with, and how they might take the plot as it is and how it might advance. I stress about it, and it becomes another requirement of my time, alongside work and classes. I need to get it done well, or else I'll disappoint my friends and the whole thing will go belly up, right? Especially since I'm the only one passionate about learning and improving our games.

Then Sunday comes along and we play, and I still get no satisfaction. I've spent the entire week getting things right and ready to go, and the players all say they enjoy it, but I don't enjoy the process at all. I spend half of the session standing up so I can manipulate the map, and I'm keeping track of dozens of numbers at a single time, as well as details like appearance, personality, tools, goals...I can't catch a single break until the session is over, and then I'm just tired, like I spent a 5 hour presentation talking about my research for the week and already am starting to think about how the things the players changed will affect the next week.
Hell, I don't even know if I enjoy playing, because I got my group into the game out of a vague interest and a starter set, and I've been DMing since. The several times I've tried to play the groups have fallen apart due to bad scheduling or been unenjoyable Official League games.
But I know for a fact that I'm not currently enjoying DMing, even though I wish I could have fun and keep enabling my friends to do so, and it's adding greatly to my stress and draining my limited time.
How do you enjoy GMing?
>>
I don't enjoy GMing. I do it because it gives our imaginative yet slow main GM a chance to plan for "long enough". I just run glorified dungeon crawls so we get it over with. I hate every other weekend being a wasted session. Not to mention when people cancel and he calls off the whole session over one person.

Fuck you, Travis.[/slow]
>>
The answer is - you stop overpreparing. Apart from some autistic manchildren on /tg/, no one expects you to have a myriad encounters planned out and all deviations due to players' actions accounted for. There's great pleasure in improvising and letting your players go wild, with you tagging along to see how far you can take it without breaking it.

Before the session I usually have a few possible clusters of NPCs, locations and plot hooks in mind (none of it too detailed) as well as a few statblocks in case my players to ask for trouble and start some combat. And that's it - none of that overpreparing and worrying nonsense.

A good trick to know is that combat is, ironically, your best friend. Confused as to the direction in which your players are dragging the plot? Throw something to kill at them. While they are throwing dice at it, you have some time to process potential plot progression.

>I can't catch a single break until the session is over
You're the GM. All you have to say is "guys, 15 minutes break y'all, go grab a drink". The party won't go on without you.

Additionally, quantity does not necessarily equal quality. Instead of describing an NPC in detail, especially if he's unimportant, just give him one-two quirks and traits that stand out. They are much more likely to be memorable while reducing the load on you.

What kind of tactics/strategies/military doctrines would orcs most likely use? For the sake of clarification, D&D style orcs: big, muscular and agressive green men that aren't too clever. You're allowed to assume these orcs have access to fantasy beasts of burden including trolls and ogres, but also plain ol' elephants.

FAQ:
>What the fuck is this?
Somewhat a campaign of crack-infused free-form roleplay in the grim darkness of the far future.

>When do you guys make these threads?
Usually mondays at 4PM GMT, but they sometimes extend to Tuesdays if we got caught in the middle of something when the thread died and it was too late to make another one the same day.

>Can I join in?
Sure, just think of a character and have fun, you can find most info in 1d4chan albeit it's ussually a little bit out of date in comparison to where the threads are.

>Is there any requirement in character creation.
Not really, we've had Xeno infiltrators, Chaos infiltrators, Villains, Heroes, Normal Guardsmen, Crazed Guardsmen, Assassins, Psykers, Space Marines, Inquisitors, Squats... just think whathever and join the fun.

>Is it allowed to have more than a single character?
Yes as long as you don't use it to powerplay.

>So how you guys do the playan'?
We tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, but nothing is set in stone.
We tend to use greentexts for describing a character's actions, but again nothing is set in stone.
Use d20s for combat checks and d100s for other things you want to roll, higher Is better.
It's important to know that the regiment is now in the employ of a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, with influence from an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and under the watch of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Yes we've been through a lot of shit.

Yeah, you're right.

How many Land Raiders and/or Blast Templates is too much? I love Nuncio-vox models and pay for them anyways, even if there are no barrage or deep-striking units in my army, but I can never really find a use for them. I feel like taking a ton of Barrage weapons to make the most out of Ironfire is a dick move though, and I like playing casual games. The same goes for bringing tons of high AV/Flyers too.

What is the deal with players who play primarily alchemists (or some analogous class) having an undying fetish of their characters wearing a plague doctor mask all the time?

It doesnt even have to be their primary class, but if they can have it, they will try to get the mask.

I get that it has some nice aesthetics, but for fucks sake, when it becomes a constant across groups and settings, the alchemist players getting the plague doctor mask becomes a forced meme / bad trope.

Did you guys have the same experience? How did you try to avoid/combat it?

I have this issue currently, and the player slowed it down after people stop saying "Plague mask AGAIN!"

I have reason to believe they're baiting for attention, and the phase will end like a goth phase would for most teens.
>>
>>49404991
I'm playing a plague doctor RIGHT NOW, and she's not even an alchemist. She's a light cleric.
The reason for their polarity is... Plague doctors look cool! They have this spooky, unusual costume that nobody else really used - and unlike, say, ninjas, they actually used it historically. However, despite that, plague doctors have almost minimal presence in popular culture (I can't remember them appearing in video games outside of Darkest Dungeon, for example), so they're not an overused cliche yet.
>>
I recommend you do not try to change them. If they are thst annoying, kick them from the group. As boring as it sounds, some people can only roleplay one trope or character type. My players made the mistake if pressuring our rogue player (who has played rogues for 4 years now) into playing a cleric, and his enthusiasm and overall energy levels have plummeted. Not everyone can do every role. Let him be his eternal alchemist.

In the future of space, why do people use rayguns instead of bullet guns? A bullet will still kill a person, and you can fit more bullets into a small area than batteries that hold enough charge for multiple shots stronger than the bullets.

Bad writers.
>>
>you can fit more bullets into a small area than batteries that hold enough charge for multiple shots stronger than the bullets.
I know I'll be accused of memeing, but depends on the setting. This rule is not always standard.

Furthermore, there are plenty of reasons to use ray guns in space- no chance of dangerous ricochet, precision around gravity wells (that aren't black holes), and instantaneous travel time. Being the standard in space may lead to them being the standard on the ground due to how mass production works, but again that depends on the setting.
>>
>>49413594

Well, your efficiency argument is iffy since you're just arbitrarily declaring and defining how much charge it takes future technology to fire a lethal burst and how many of those it can fit into a battery. So, in your setting where the batteries work X way, such that they can't hold more than a gun's worth of ammo at a time, maybe it does make sense. Maybe in the future we get really good and compressing a lot of energy into small batteries necessary to fuel, say, spaceships.

But let's put it like this: space is about being inside a pressurised can whose insides are calibrated into the very narrow range of environmental conditions necessary for human life. These cans are surrounded by death and nightmares. Don't poke holes in the can. Physical projectiles pose a greater problem for the structural integrity of your shit than rayguns which mostly shoot light and heat.

Another way of looking at it is that the smaller your projectile, the easier it is to be deflected by air currents etc and so the harder it is to reliably be accurate at any meaningful range. So while you could argue that no matter how efficient laser pew pew tech becomes we could still have great guns that can fire basically forever because we're firing little needles of bullets - that's probably not great. That said, lasers would also suffer a similar problem with diffusion.

Finally, a lot of space future settings do still feature physical projectiles. Even Star Wars still has slug throwers, bows and arrows, fucking javelins. In 40K lasweapons are cheap and cost-efficient but the physical bolt throwers are the real killers.
