I was really poor growing up and a bit of a tomboy. My parents often shopped at Goodwill for clothing, my mom bought me some cargo shorts meant for a younger boy that fit me pretty well.
I wore them once and no one noticed but the second time a girl recognized them as her little brother's shorts her parents had donated to GW.
I got made fun of relentlessly over it and people
were always eager to point out other clothes that their family's had donated, since the area is pretty small any clothing meant for younger teens almost always came from my school.
I ended up wearing lots of hand-me-downs from my male cousin to avoid bullying but by then the damage had been done.
That and another time several girls held me down and cut my hair, like down to the scalp in some places. They just butchered it and mom shaved my head because there wasn't much to do to fix it.
