Hi, just looking for ideas on the smallest survival kit you can use and relatively warm, fed and have a place to sleep in the smallest package. anything backpack size won't do. pockets, fanny pack, are fine etc..

I was thinking, wool thin blanket for sleep, single tarp to wrap blanket in while travelling and use for either ground sheet or make shift tent/shelter; pocket flash light, pocket knife, so kind of small food bar used at sea like rations, flask for water on string.

What can you make without a backpack thats still feasible? just for fun, im not going out there like this XD

>>
you could probably manage it if you have a shitfuckton of pockets and some serious dosh to throw at a sleep system that packs down small enough to fit.

Is anyone else sick of survivalist/wilderness games and other related media saturating the public consciousness? I've been seeing a serious rise in this trend for the past 10 years. What baffles me is that they just get more and more popular, not less. You'd think spending enough time in virtual-wilderness land would make people get off their asses and get the fuck outside, but no. People are content to sit inside and play make-believe instead of learn some real skills and do something that is relatively easy and far more fucking rewarding.

It's the same reason I find it baffling that there is a massive rise in commercials and advertising trying to sell to the new "outdoors-y" bandwaggoners, who probably own fitbits and go on 2 mile hikes near their city. I'm so fucking tired of seeing this shit everywhere. The reason it makes me so upset is that everyone wants to partake in the beauty and healing quality of being in nature but no one wants to actually change their lifestyle; the way of living that made wilderness fucking scarce in the first place.

Look guys, there is a reason you all beg for this shit every year. YOUR BODY CRAVES WILDERNESS. It's what our bodies AND minds are primarily designed for.

But no, gotta keep the wheels of overabundance going right? Gotta stay comfortably numb. Gotta keep fueling that lukewarm sense of complacency with more shit that you can buy. Never mind that we live in a cesspool of pollution and denial. Never mind that we've ruined most of the water around us. Water is supposed to be generally drinkable you know. Do you think our ancestors had to worry all that much about drinkable fucking water? Yes, people died, but the ones who survived didn't carry genes riddled with fucking defects that made their systems weak to COMMON FUCKING WATER-BORNE PATHOGENS. Fucking christ, we're a stupid lot.

Yes, I mad. And no, I don't want to live as a fucking caveman, I just want balance.

This generation is caught in its delusions of techno-utopianism and transhumanism. They believe nature is to be superseded by robots and that Earth's destiny is to become a world ecumene, a universal city where all the ecology is destroyed to make way for asphalt and concrete.

These 'people' then go out on internet forums and pretend to act how they think environmentalists act like in order to drive people away from environmentalist causes through Poe's Law. They believe that their virtual reality and their pleasure machines and their electronic waifus will make nature superfluous to all, therefore, nature is unnecessary to all.

I've been using sandbox wildernesses since Morrowind in order to escape being snowed in during shitty winters.

Morrowind
Oblivion
Skyrim
Firewatch
Arma II
The Long Dark (ironic I know)

However, the past 3 years there's not been any winters and I've not been playing those types of games. It was 75F today and I was out gardening and moving a truck load of manure. I drove with the windows down the entire time. Great day for being outdoors. Normally there's 4 feet of snow and -15F temps right now.

Most humans are all about efficiency and selfishness. This is a literal result of Jewish capitalist propaganda. Consume & Obey.

One more thing.

>muh gym & fitness tho

Fuck you. You aren't fit. You aren't shit. Do you think you stand a goddamn chance against people who live in smaller villages who literally run 30 miles for fun, barefoot? Who work like mules all day just to survive?

Also, what a fucking waste of time and money the gym is. What a counterproductive and counterintuitive way to be "fit". You waste most of your day working a sedentary, unfulfilling job, and then you pay someone money to undo the damage that the job just did to your body by not being active? What the actual fuck. Why not just go work on a fucking farm and learn how to grow your own food if you aren't actually just lazy and a coward? This is why the fitness/wildernessy trend is such bullshit. I hope it dies soon or evolves into actual change. Downscaling. Less lazyness. More manual labor. Smaller, tighter-knit communities. We don't have to get rid of technology or drive fucking electric cars. Just change shit. Jesus.

So I have the choice of spending this summer in a couple different places (summer internship). Which would /out/ recommend from:
Seattle
SF Bay area
San Luis Obispo
Denver
Not sure if I'll have a car.
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
none of them are terrible, but slo's probably the least best. though it does have the ocean, so if you like surfing, kayaking, or diving it gets a bump over denver. but it has shitty food and is going to be a social ghost town when school's not in session. you can get from sf to yosemite on public transportation if you don't have a car.

having spent time in the city and /out/ around all 4 i'd probably rank them
>sf
>seattle
>denver
>slo
but really those first 3 could be put in any order
>>
>>956398
FWIW i'd be well outside of SF (sunnyvale) but I assume the public transit point still stands?
>>
>>956401
yeah, though it may take an extra leg. google "yarts". fwiw sunnyvale is boring, but at least it's in proximity to fun places. no car in the bay area isn't ideal, but you can make it work.

I was thinking about treating my Yukon Outfitters tarp with permethrin to eliminate the need for a bug net. Will this repel critters well enough? Will the permethrin wear off in the rain? Interested to hear your thoughts /out/

How is the foliage and the space between the trees over there?
For tips? Mark your hideout on your map.
Hide it with dead leaves and Moss. Never break off stuff to use it as camo. And use the environment, dont build to high.
Don't make an open fire, dig a fire pit and dont do it next to your hideout.

Honestly, there is nothing more fun than running around the woods with a sword... It's not practical though, at lest for bushcrafting. I normally have a swordchete on me though just for the fun of it. Currently I have a Cold Steel Cutlass Machete and a Cold Steel Chines War Sword Machete.

I just bought one of these yesterday, I'll post about it when I get it. It's a Schrade Brush Sword, I'm excited because it's more sword and machete. Also looking into getting the Condor Naval Cutlass and Hanwei Banshee at some point, they are pretty much actual swords that could be used at some effect on brush.

Totally different concepts. He's just a few videos away from building a Walmart and destroying a small local economy that he built a few videos prior.

If you're good at packing and choosing foods, you can get around 9 days in 10 pounds of food.

You should be more worried about water, you will never be able to carry more than 3-4 days.

Where is that anon who posted the long video telling when to use which lures in what conditions? Anybody else ever watch it? Should we keep it in the OP? Otherwise we could get a list of Youtube vids and put them in the Pastebin or keep a couple important ones in the OP.

alright

looking to buy a surf rod , for use with lures mostly
topwater plugs, poppers as well as other jerkbaits, and bucktails
but may also use it for soaking bait
stripers bluefish and soaking baits for small sharks, skates etc

id like something 9 ft , ( i could do 8 or 10 ft as well but ideally 9 ft)
id like a pretty quick action
most lures id be throwing will be 1-3 ounces with the occational heavier or lighter lure probably down to 1/2 an ounce or up to ounces
though i will probably get a second lighter rod for the lighter stuff

also probably going to buy a new reel, very well may end up with a spinfisher 6500
unless i get other suggestions on great reels

if i can keep the price under $200 that would be good

Where do you draw the line between "these new hiking boots are still breaking in, give it some more time" and "these boots just aren't going to work"?

I just got in from a quick 3 mile hike and my feet generally just hurt with small blisters on my little toes. I've probably got 30-35 miles into these boots almost all in 2-3 mile increments. I pushed it once and did a 7 mile hike but walked barefoot the last mile. At that time, I figured it was too much too soon and just needed more break in. Not so sure anymore. Starting to think they just don't agree with my feet. Have you ever given up on a pair of boots?

Oh, and those are not my nasty feet.

>>954844
If they don't feel like they're gonna work after 10 miles, I stand in a warm bath with them, and wear them around the yard and house till they dry. If this doesn't work, I try to take them back (not being comfortable and making blisters is a manufacturing defect).

If none of that works, I give them away, make them into slides, or salvage the leather.
>>
Take them back. You should have done that after the first hike. Geez just get some trail runners people do the AT in autism shoes
>>
