Ok so i just bought this bag from walmart for 20 bucks. 28 liters and it feels like sylnylon.

I will do a 2 day this weekend with it to evaluate it. So far it seems just about as shitty as the 200 dollar packs.

Well my 4t degee sleeping bag fit right in. In a compression sack. You could probably fit a real down bag in here. But no walmart brand bags. There are 2 hanging loops on the bottom but i am thinking my pad goes there.
>>
I haven't de c decided if i am going tk take a full tent or a tarp. The main bad thing i see is no tent pole straps. But i could just strap them sideways woth my pad. Or whatever i use the under loops for.

It'll probably fall apart faster. I'd say get a decent one for $60 and have it last 15 years instead of buying a new $20 bag every other year

What does /out/ think of Steve Rinella?
Is he /oneofus/ or is he a green decoy and gubmint schill with too much money and an thinly veiled ability to hide his radically left leaning agenda?

I think he is one of us and a stand-up guy

> I suddenly received the news that twenty Red soldiers had surrounded my house to arrest me and that I must escape. I quickly put on one of my friend’s old hunting suits, took some money and hurried away on foot along the back ways of the town till I struck the open road, where I engaged a peasant, who in four hours had driven me twenty miles from the town and set me down in the midst of a deeply forested region. On the way I bought a rifle, three hundred cartridges, an ax, a knife, a sheepskin overcoat, tea, salt, dry bread and a kettle. I penetrated into the heart of the wood...

Recommend me mouth-watering /out/ literature. The best of the best.

Girlfriend bought me a Becker BK2 for Valentine's day. Thought on this knife? Also what's a good sharpening system for hiking, camping, backpacking?

Nice, I really like the BK line, I have a BK-15 (pic related) I think the BK-2 is just a little stocky for my tastes, but it's pretty much unbreakable unless you are really trying. btw the Micarta handles are worth it, once they break in and wear down a bit they feel great.

Of course a lot of people here are going to complain about it being "way too heavy".

As for sharpening, how long we talking about camping? Unless you are like hiking for weeks, you really don't need to bring a sharpener with you, just a nice sharp edge to start.

I'm a sharpening junkie, so I use a Wicked Edge for normal knives, and I have other set ups for other things.

I would recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker for starts, it's easy to learn, and very versatile, I still use mine with my Wicked Edge for serrations. It's not great for moving a lot of material though, it's strength is in maintaining a edge. If the knife is really dull or you need to re profile, you may want to get some oil stones and practice with those for the rough work.
>>
I'll look into those sharpeners. I've never had any knives worth investing in sharpeners. Me and my gf are going on a 3 day hike in mountains and I'm going to be taking one solo this year. Also going to use the BK for my hunting and fishing. Just planning on getting more active outdoors in general now.
>>
>>951018
Honestly learn to use a whetstone in my opinion. Not only then can you sharpen your outdoors knifes you'll be able to sharpen every one you own. You'll need to buy at least 2 (one medium and one fine grit) and watch some videos on how to sharpen with them. Not too difficult to learn and it's super satisfying being able to bring any knife you own to razor sharp.

If you live in the outdoors and forage/hunt for food you're a survivalist/outdoorsman.

If you move around and don't have a permanent living place you're a traveler/tourist.

If you live in a fucking tent/dumpster/box in a city you are a homeless fucking bum vagrant trash and probably mentally ill. Get help.

What do you pack with your for emergency survival during a day hike?

In my pack I always have a flint, solar cell charger. I also always pack a long sleeve regardless of the weather. What color shirt is the best for being seen? I mostly hike desert mountain.

Depends on your desert. Here in the American Southwest I go coyote/FDE where there are big gaps between flora(cactus, sage, juniper), but lean towards woodland (w/ tan trousers) for denser environments.
>>
>>958064
For being seen?
Reflective, (IR is better), blaze orange, neon green.

Yea, I meant for being seen in a search and rescue situation.

Hey my /out/ist friends I need to buy some new sunglasses. I live in a fairly sunny place and I spend lots of time in the beach so it's a fucking must that they have at least reasonable quality and also that look casual enough for daily life. I would like to spend bellow $100.

Thanks in advance.

So, I have this tent that served me well in the summer. It's not built to last, but it's light and I like it.
How not to freeze my dick off in -10?
I was thinking - maybe, poncho and thermal blanket on the ground under the tent, and another thermal blanket over it?
Any hints & ideas?

c or f?

either way, sleeping bag + pad + clothing is how you keep warm, tent enters into it very little. "4 season" tents are primarily differentiated by being strong enough to not collapse under snow accumulation or strong wind, not extra insulation.
>>
>>950041
>tent enters into it very little
It protects from the wind, thus helps to keep the temperature inside higher.

yes, but proportionally to the warmth provided by sleeping bag + pad + clothing it is very little. which is why i said very little, and not not at all.
